'Dragonflies: Magnificent Creatures of Water, Air, and Land' by Pieter van Dokkum is a book filled with photographs of dragonflies in various stages of their life.

The book follows the lifespan of the dragonfly starting with a chapter called Beginnings. There are then chapters on how they fly, hunt, and mate. There are notes at the beginning of each chapter and the photos have notes giving the reader insight to some of the many varieties of dragonflies and damselflies. The most poignant chapter is the last, showing dragonflies in death, with dulled eyes and coloring. Then photos show the next generation.

The book ends with a note on how to take similar photos and the equipment the author used.

I really liked this book, and the photos are pretty stunning. I've always liked dragonflies, but I've never studied them up close. I'm glad I got to read this book.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Yale University Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

However magnificent the photos, the text would benefit from either more detail for an erudite audience or more explanation for young people and laymen.
