The horror abounds in this deliciously creepy tale. Cameron's taking heat from all angles. He and his mom are constantly on the run from his stalker father, so there's extra incentive for them to make it in a new place (with all the ensuing pressures that entails). But the wolf is always at the door. That is, the dogs. Because this new place, it's bizarre. Out in the country, and according to the locals, haunted. But what kind of haunting? And is Cameron's family going to survive this last-ditch effort to escape? Worthy and haunting.

Not as good as I wanted but not as bad as I feared. More strange than scary. It wasnts to be horror with depth. It succeeds in becoming an eerie tale. The characters are decent. The protagonist is reasonably solid the adults less so. While the bulk of the novel isn't clear whether this is a haunting or mental illness this is a result of lack of evidence rather than conflicting evidence.

Sleeping with the enemy meets The Sixth Sense. This book is brilliant, so well written! It could be an awesome movie! My page-turner check marks go to✓writing, ✓premise, ✓characterization and ✓plot.

The dogs has many elements that you may find in other thrillers: the troubled lonely kid, the violent dad, the ghosts, the isolated farm, the old creepy farmer, the bullies at school, the old town stories about murders but somehow Allan makes them fresh and original and creates this great page-turner!

I couldn’t put the book down. It was an emotional roller coaster. That poor heart of mine! It was either getting broken by the things that happened to Cameron or Jacky or I felt I was going to have a heart attack with the suspense!

Allan does a great job with the characters as well. They are incredibly real and I connected so much with them, from the main characters to the bullies and the creepy farmer!

I highly recommend this book. Allan is one hell of a storyteller.

The Dogs was a super creepy read that I guarantee will spook you, especially if you read it at night. What I loved most about this book is how unsettled the story made me feel. I wasn't sure what was real and what was imagined, and I become positively giddy when an author achieves that.

Cameron, the main character and narrator, has had a difficult time to say the least. Moving around all the time with a mom who's constantly on edge would be so hard. I empathized with him right away. How many times can a kid be expected to adjust to a new place with new people?

The Dogs is a well written book with a perfectly sized serving of the creep factor. What wasn't perfectly sized was the length of the novel. I think there was more story to tell but didn't get told and was skipped over. I wish Stratton had gone into more depth. I wanted more, which is a good thing.

The Dogs was a quick read, and while short, had a satisfying ending. No matter what time of year you choose to pick this book up, you're guaranteed to get the chills.
