"From the Start" is the first in a series. It is a little meta, since the heroine, Kate, writes romance. She primarily writes screenplays that are similar to a Hallmark movie. This book is much like a Hallmark movie. Nearly all the tropes are in this story <spoiler> - a kid with cancer, fostering, a small town, a "washed-up" sports player (hero), a person who wants to do something meaningful with her life, a close-knit family, one brother lost his wife and is raising a non-verbal daughter by himself, and a community that rallies together after every major natural disaster (tornado, river flooding, running out of caffiene) as well as wanting to throw parades and cheer for the high school football team. There is also an "amnesia" case where the person remembers, and then our couple is in a car accident, leading to misunderstanding and broken bones. </spoiler>
Colton was a NFL quarterback but due to an injury, he's forced into early retirement. Colton has a book deal and needs a ghost writer as the deadline has already been extended twice with the publishing company.
Kate's writing career has been stalling out as well. She wants to write something meaningful. She gets the chance to do that through a foundation that her mother helped start, but they can't pay her. She has the time but she doesn't have the funds since her most recent screenplay was rejected.
Both Kate and Colton end up back in Iowa to help Kate's family recover from a tornado that had hit the small town.
The reader is introduced to Kate's siblings (each will get their own book) and a community of people who weave their stories into Kate and Colton's.
It was a sweet story. There's no sex, only a kiss or 3. There are mentions of faith in God.
I listened to this book. The audiobook was narrated well. It was easy to tell who was speaking.

Thanks for the advanced readers copy. I was not able to get into this one, so I won't be proving a review on social media.
