I reviewed this in early 2016 on my blog but it never made it elsewhere - the review, I mean. So here it is now:
What I liked: After reading this, I realized that I have always enjoyed books revolving around music or musicians (well, also around other arts, sports, movies, etc for that matter) but I love, love when the characters are passionate about something more than each other in a romance. Maya is realistic – spunky, with a loving family around her – she is a rocker who wants to dream big. Jesse is a polar opposite almost – a successful country singer in his teens, he leads a lonely life and longs for family and for a more normal life, a guy with an attitude that can irritate until you see underneath the prickly exterior – which Maya does over the course of a Ferris-Bueller-style-day-out-date. The book is cute, fun, adorable, with sweet romance and family/friend interactions that bring a smile to your heart.
What I did not like or would have liked instead: Don’t recall anything specific but maybe Jesse’s attitude at times (many a time) was not the best. The book moved along with minimal conflicts and having just a little more conflict for and/or between the characters would have filled the missing piece.
Will I read more by this author: Yes! This is the first book that I am reading in the Hundred Oak series (though it is not the first book of the series) and I requested it quite by accident from NetGalley. I will definitely be picking up the others to read as well.

Rating: B - (updating to A on my reread. 2019 - . why? Because the sweetness factor truly appealed to me more now..
Reading Level: Young Adult
Reread Level: 3.5/5(changing to 5/5 as I read it again now in 2019 and enjoyed the read!)

My Thoughts:

I so enjoyed this one!! I loved Maya and her strong personality. She's so vibrant, you just get sucked into her brilliant energy! I loved her family unit too, which brings me to the other thing I loved so much: seeing Sam and Jordan all these years later! I love that in the Hundred Oaks books, you'll see cameos of the other characters but we got quite a bit of Sam and Jordan and this one and it just made me really happy!

I really liked seeing Maya and Jesse get to know each other. Jesse puts up all these walls but quickly realizes Maya is someone he can be himself with. It's just super adorable. I also have a soft spot for musicians. So of course, I was totally swooning for Jesse right away. It's the country singer, southern charm he's got going on! I also love how they each push the other to go for their dreams. To reach and work toward what they want. I loved seeing them support each other in their life aspirations.

In Short...

I love this series! I think these characters are just so real, it makes me feel like I can reach out and be their friend. I love the family interactions, the cameos from previous books' characters and the fantastic romance. This is a YA contemporary series you need to read!

Maya has always dreamed of being a rock star, but her dreams are crushed when she is kicked out of her band. On Career Day, students at her school get to shadow someone in the industry that they are interested in, and Maya is surprised to find she has been paired with country megastar Jesse Scott.

At first things are awkward, but soon enough they spend the day together doing awesome things, and Maya realizes that she doesn’t want her best day ever to end.
