Aaron befriends Thomas as he's working through debilitating grief that seems to have caused memory loss. His girlfriend Genevieve and Thomas do their best to help Aaron get back on his feet, but he slowly starts to realize that things are not as they seem. This is a haunting and memorable debut novel that set the stage for all of Silvera's work to come. I read this book when it came out but it's still on my mind all these years later.

This book deals with some sad, heavy stuff. There is trauma, depression and mental illness as well as homophobia. While it is a dark book there is a unique dialogue and voice to the book that helps infuse it with humour without detracting from the overall message of the book. I found the love story to be exceptional, its what elevated the book from being dark and twisted and sad into something beautiful (but still dark, twisted and sad).

I bought a copy of this for my classroom library! It's always nice to get a male voice in YA literature.

I've heard so much about this one and sadly that probably overhyped me for it... I didn't enjoy it as much as everyone else seems to. It was bittersweet, in a way, and I wasn't really in the mood for that when I picked it up so maybe that's why.
