Found the book stayed close to the actual happenings there and to the flavor of the real times then, and did not leap ahead with a backward glance from the current times of its writing, but was close to the expectations and limitations of the time and rthe Civil Rights movement and its opposition in 1965. While I was in High School in 1965, I did spend time with the Civil Rights movement in the South including Mississippi in the next year. Much history writing does not catch the pace and difficulties and the bigness of changes, while others exaggerate and make 1965 or 66 seem more like 1985 or 86. I thought this was accurate and useful and have heard good things about this book from people who were there in Selma, either as activists or ordinary residents of the area.

This is a reissue of a seminal event in the Civil Rights Movement, Selma. This book covers the role played by King and other pioneers of the movement including the venerable John Lewis. If you are interested in learning more about the movement I strongly recommend this text.
