This was a quick read and a breath of fresh air for me. A lovely palette cleanse from the serious non-fiction I just finished and a rather not-so-great YA I ended up DNFing.

I'll be honest, I am not overly into the Sleepy Hollow story. I know Ichabod is supposed to be the bad guy, only into Katrina for her family's wealth and that she had a prior, local beau, who may or may not have had something to do with Ichabod's encounter with the Headless Horseman. Disney did their own version of it, but kept close to the original tale.

This story stands the original story's premise on it's head and I really enjoyed it. This is book two, so I did miss some of what happened in the first book, but enough was discussed in this book that I was able to follow along pretty well.

I liked the characters and I LOVE that we got to learn about the backstory of the Headless Horseman. Not what was expected at all and I thought it was very creative. I admit to hoping for more of Violet's story. And maybe Jonas' too. They were very interesting secondary characters, of whom I would like to read more. Seth was a jerk you love to hate, it would be cool to read more about him and maybe see some redemption.

The MC Katrina was really quite strong and I like that she didn't give up. She did make a few mistakes, but she learned from them and was willing to do what she felt needed to be done to save herself and her friends.

I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. Definitely YA, as the lovers are definitely lovers. The loving is off-page, but the reader knows it is there. Also, violence and an attempted rape, so be warned. A solid 4 stars.

My thanks to NetGalley and Garden Gate Press for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.
