I like this book. It blended fiction with the history of ancient Egypt. It was a well blended mix. I liked the main character and it was easy to get to know her.

This is such an interesting book! I didn't realize it was a Christian story until some chapters in, but it didn't feel like too much. The characters are so flashed out and complex, I loved it. The story is really well done too, I have such a soft spot for stories about sister relationships, even when they are twisted like this. Anippe is such an interesting character, she is sweet but strong, and will do anything for her happiness. I have ambivalent feelings for Ankhe. My issue with this novel was the time jump - it annoyed me a bit, slowing the plot a lot. So I didn't end up reading the whole novel and lost interest by the end, but for most of it I was actually enjoying it.

It is so much fun to put a story to the names we have all heard, along with context of the history of such an amazing empire. A fun read for sure!

The Pharaoh’s Daughter was incredibly well written and it was obvious that a lot of research also went into it. The author did an amazing job bringing this time in history to life. I was able to understand what the Hebrew’s endured during their time in slavery far more after reading this book than when I’ve read those parts of the Bible before.

It is so sad and disgusting the way the Egyptians acted, treated the Hebrews, and prayed to the fake gods. They were so cruel, hateful, and self absorbed. On the contrary, I loved the devotion the Hebrews showed, the love and dedication they showed each other and God. It was easy to tell who worshiped the One True God, and who worshiped fake idols and gods.

This is not at all the life I expected of Moses. We didn't get much from his life between being saved from the Nile and then being in his 80s and being summoned by God for his mission, so there wasn’t much for me to imagine. I loved getting a glimpse of what his early life, and the lives of all the Hebrew’s in Egypt, could have been like.

This novel provides a great insight to the world of ancient Egypt while enlightening us on the biblical story. Mesu Andrews' hard work and thoughtfulness are revealed in the writing as well as in the introduction and her intro Note.

Although I had always been curious about Pharoah's daughter when reading about her in Scripture, I had never thought very much about her, New to this author, I was pleasantly surprised to see how she developed this character from Scripture. Many times, we skim right over these details when we first read them. Andrews portrayal made this entire time period come to life in a way that you can see, hear, and sense in a powerful way. Would make for a great women's study or book club.

This was the first book I have read written by Mesu Andrews. I do enjoy Biblical fiction and this book was really good!

It is the story of Anippe, whose roles change throughout her life as she sheds her royal robes for slave attire. As this woman who drew Moses from the Nile, takes him as her own son, she takes on the role of mother, a role she had not wanted due to her personal fears of bearing a child.

This book must have required countless hours of research as fiction is interwoven with fact to bring about this dramatic tale of the life of Moses, Hebrew slaves and Egyptian Royals.

I enjoyed it very much. This is a great read.

I received an ebook copy of this book from NetGalley for review. All expressed thoughts are my own.

The premise of the story was there, but I had a very hard time with them setting the Moses story within the timeframe of the Tutankhamen/Ay/Horemheb era. It just bothered me and it got in the way of the sorry, at least for me.

I had a hard time getting into this book. Since I did not finish it, I do not intend to publish a review.

After a terrible accident, Lily wakes up in a mysterious hospital with only glimpses of memories of what happened. She discovers her twin, Cole, is in a coma and is given a set of odd rules to follow during her stay. But one mystery leads to another even as her memories of the accident bring up more questions. What will happen if she breaks those rules?

Shadows of the Forest was a very interesting fantasy. It was not centered on a romance, like most teen fantasy I read these days. Rather, it focused on the unconditional love between the main character, Lily, and her twin brother, Cole. Each would give up their lives for the other, and they certainly both tried. Their love for each other was so beautiful to read about. And the adventure that Lily had when she tried to save her brother’s life was epic, mystical, and bizarre. I won’t be forgetting her marvelous journey anytime soon. This was also a story of a girl learning that she is worthwhile and deserves happiness, despite all the negative teachings her abusive father and neglectful mother instilled into her. Her spiritual journey was as awesome as the physical one. And did I mention the little bit of romance one the side? The one critique I had for this book was the ending. ***Slight Spoiler Alert!*** It was beautiful and terrible all at the same time. The love between the twins was almost magical, but something came along to separate them, and what Lily ultimately gave up for Cole broke my heart and made me cry. It was so sweet, but still! And the suggestion at the end that all of this was in Lily’s head made me really disappointed in this book. I mean, it’s fiction, so why couldn’t it be real? That part pretty much ruined the book for me, I’m afraid. ***Spoiler End***

Shadows of the Forest gave me a fresh perspective in the YA fantasy genre, so I truly enjoyed it. Though I have mixed feelings because of the ending, I would gladly recommend it to fans of the genre.
