This story began well but fell flat. The sisters’ personalities switched on a dime, and Brianna in particular became whiny, immature, and needy until basically the end of the book.
Once again, history was adjusted to suit the author’s whims. Why can’t we stick to the facts of when and what actually happened so that we learn a bit of truth as we read?

Fiesty!
1911 Long Island, NY. Tale of an Irish family, mostly about two of the sisters who fight their father and each other for attention and independence. Their father is a self-made man, an immigrant from Ireland who worked hard to prove himself. Both sisters become grounded by the men in their lives. It’s great reading about the paths that they choose and how much they change when they allow their faith to grow and mature.

I wasn’t sure I would like this book, but I was really so wrong!! I really loved it. James O’Leary was a controlled father, wanting to control his daughter’s lives, as well as the young man that he raised. It was really annoying the way James was acting, and I really felt like belting Gilbert for not standing up for himself, but yet I could understand why, because of he circumstances. The story was back and forth so much between Gil and Brianna that was head was spinning so much I wanted to shake them both! But in reality, that’s what happens a lot with couples. And then there was Colleen and Rylan, and their very different lifestyles. I had a real problem with Colleen and her attitude, and it was difficult for me to see her any different. Ms. Mason weaves together a story that will keep you biting your nails, and gritting your teeth because of the tension issues with these two couples. And to find out what happens in the end, you need to read the book for yourself!

Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book! It was ultimately assigned to another reviewer, however, so I am unable to post my own review. I look forward to reading it on my own someday, as I'm still interested in the story, and as always, I look forward to more great titles from Bethany House!
