The Royal Artisan is book two in the Queen Esther’s Court series, but it can stand alone.
Sazana of Persia is a renowned artisan whose exquisite pottery is known to grace the tables of royalty. Despite this reputation, Sazana carries a secret; she’s really Shoshanah, one of the Hebrews her lord despises. It’s in keeping this secret that the tension builds. Will Lord Haman’s plan to eradicate the Jews include Sazana? Can she keep it a secret?
Afshar’s story begins with a beautiful love story before it gives way to a murder mystery and a search for a lost artifact. I love that this artifact is a real-life treasure and it ties together Afshar’s spotlight on biblical prophesy, archaeology and history. If, like me, you have questions about Haman’s sentencing and his sons persistence in the Queen Esther account in the bible, Afshar addresses possible answers.
I appreciated a reminder that sometimes we need to set aside past heartaches to work together for good and that in facing challenges, we should consider that we might already possess or have access to what or who will allow us to overcome.
Afshar’s story is rooted in a biblical account, and is filled with intrigue, secrets, romance and second chances. I’m looking forward to book three and a focus on horses!
I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Love loved this story! I wish all kings and queens were like Esther. She's my favorite queen of all.
Afshar has done a wonderful job in bringing her to life. I really enjoyed being in her court.
Sazana is a potter. I felt like was along side her working in the shop with her. I really learned quite a bit about pottery.
I had to snicker at one of my favorite scenes though.
I just couldn't picture a Queen doing this but it does show that she is compassionate and loving towards her people. I even liked her husband Xerses lol. He is different than most kings. He has heart. Esther was perfect for him.
I stayed up to finish it. This is one book I didn't mind losing sleep over. So very good!! I loved every minute of this story. I didn't want it to end!
Afshar has been one of my favorite Biblical authors since Perl in the sand. I just love her stories. Not one has ever disappointed me. They've given me some wonderful messages to think about. Especially this one.
I don't think that there's never been another compassionate person like Queen Esther since. I always enjoy her stories no matter what version of it it is.
Such a beautiful cover too. I wonder what the lady is thinking? I love the vase she's holding too.
