Setting in driving school, the story follows Yaotome, a 30 something years old, at first glance prince-like mysterious man and his driving instructor Chiba.
The first few pages had me laughing out loud, so real and funny. The panic of driving is very relatable to me. The facade of Yaotome good looks and feigned confidence was quickly shed out, showing his clumsy anxious self.

The catch in the story is, the initial display of both mcs were wearing a mask in public, which is something we all do, we have our public persona selves. The point where they learn and meet each other, was handled so so nicely.

The romance was cute, the pace felt right. Interesting to see them as individuals first and foremost to then view them as a possible couple.
Definitely a feel good type of read.
Not sure if the conflict was necessary but I can understand why the author chose to explore it that as a mean to validate Chiba’s past experience and present behaviour he adopted, I guess?

In the land of miscommunication, whoever bare their feelings naked is god, Yaotome did that beautifully. Really enjoyed how mature and emotional intelligent both were.

Funny how a story about a driving school, a single volume to boot packed so much: suits, weebs, meganes, yearning gay, cute romance and yukata-almost-sex (!)

The only “negative” aspect of the story for me was, WHY THE CAT DIDNT GET SHOWTIME?!!!! Give us gays and kitties pleaseeeee!!!!

Chiba is a driving instructor with such a shining personality that everyone can’t help but fall in love with him. However, his last relationship ended so badly that he’s sworn off love all together! Everything changes when a nervous driving student, Yaotome, gets in his car. His coworkers call Yaotome the sharp-suited prince, but it turns out he’s an easy going and accident prone guy with a heart of gold. What other secrets are about to come out between this love-scorned driving instructor and his shy student?!

This is such a cute and funny contemporary romance following a driving instructor and his shy student. What starts as a slow accidental friendship slowly blossoms into a sweet romance as Chiba and Yaotome slowly get to know each other. While it’s mostly light and fluffy, we do see their individual struggles and how Chiba became so jaded by romance.

If you like contemporary romances with a touch of humor, I think this will be an excellent read for you. It’s a pretty quick read, but it’s a sweet and funny one at that. Plus, the artwork is nice and helps bring the story to life. You can’t go wrong by picking this up! I liked it so much that I’m excited to check out the author’s other work in the future.

This was so cute!! I loved it! It moved very quickly, but it was a fun, lighthearted read! The bit about the manga was a bit creepy tho. I'd hate to be turned into a character in a manga. But I really enjoyed the story and the two main characters were adorable. I love where it ended, but I would also love more! Thanks for the chance to read this early.

I'm not an instant love girlie, so showing the process of how a relationship works, from the awkwardness at the beginning to being intimate, makes me really happy.
I hope to read more from this author.

It felt like a soft cuddle and a breath of fresh air.
Even though at times the pacing felt a bit rushed and some scenes came off as slightly random, especially since the story doesn’t go too deep into the characters’ backgrounds ,it still managed to create a warm and cozy atmosphere.
If you’re looking for a BL that’s light, fun, and doesn’t demand too much emotional investment or narrative complexity, this might be just right for you. Simple, but heartwarming.
On a personal note, I was pleasantly surprised by the unconventional setting of the story. I
t’s rare to see a driving school used as the main backdrop, and that made it feel even more fun and enjoyable. It’s a yes for me.

I got the ARC of this from NetGalley, and I'm really glad I did, because I probably wouldn't have picked it up otherwise. It has such a weird title that doesn't really fit the story.

The art was great, and the story suprisingly interesting. Simple and cute. I really liked it!

this was a sweet and fun one shot manga! i liked the characters, and the art style was very cute! the fact that the mmc wanted to start having driving lessons to get his license for his cat is the sweetest thing ever. simple and lighthearted manga that i would recommend!

This was a super cute self-contained story! It was very cute to see the two's different perspectives on how they came to fall in love.

Loved this one shot BL. This was a breath of fresh air from the other BL’s I have read. This features two adults (thank goodness) with real life jobs. Yaotome and Chiba had great dynamics with each other. Though this was a short story, it still touched base on the topic of same sex relationships, the not so serious side of it, but also maintained the innocence of the two’s relationship. Often times, BL’s with older characters are put through the ringer but this one was lighter. I highly recommend this short if you are looking for something light to read!

My Instructor Won't Yield is a lovely one-shot BL featuring adult characters with real jobs and all that, but no adult situations that would warrant anything more than a PG rating. There is the meet-cute in a business setting, and then another meet-cute off the clock for the main characters, which lines up with the tatemae/honne (public face/true face) in Japanese culture. Yaotome works a non-traditional freelance job, and Chiba is a driving instructor who is against dating students for reasons explained in the book. While brief, the book manages to touch upon the issue of same-sex relationships not being taken seriously, sometimes even by the people in the relationship itself. This is wholesome enough that you wouldn't have to hide it on your bookshelf. Unrelated to the story or art, I enjoyed the added notes at the end of the book explaining driving culture in Japan. One thing that did bug me in the ARC I received: several spots had kerning issues (for example, it would look like "I k now" instead of "I know"). I hope that's cleaned up in the final version.

When Yaotome finally earned his keep by being a mangaka, he decided to draw a character that is as kind and gentle as Chiba-san. Meanwhile, the moment of weakness that Yaotome caught Chiba was his heartbreak. Then by chance, when Yaotome ran into Chiba again, it really lends an opportunity for them to get to know each other.

Prince-like Chiba resisted the urge, just so not to complicate any situation. But as chance would have it, and put Chiba & Yaotome in close proximity and in the same room. These two are just too cute for their own good. Them being together is just sweet as molasses.

Author, author, I LOVE YOUR WORK!(*T^T) This is what I'm talking about when they say light read. I'm in loveee! The book is very direct to the point we just know where it's going when we read the title and look at the cover. The intro is very hilarious and relatable HAHAHAHA I also just got my student permit. I get how Yaotome got scared at the first day. I would love to read more of this but sadly it's short(*T^T) and I will be reading more of the Author's books. I am kinda (very very slighttt I Promise) biased when it comes to BL but this sure is a great read(σ≧▽≦)σ I wanna buy the physical copy!

I was charmed by this sweet story about a driving school instructor and his adult student falling for each other. I find BL featuring adults (rather than high schoolers/college students) can be a little trickier to get right in terms of tone; Kingyobachi did a great job here making the MCs feel like fully-fledged adults while still maintaining the sweetness and tentativeness of their romance. (Sometimes the adult BL gets really, like, grim and/or kind of mean? I think they're sometimes going for a sexy tone but the couple ends up losing their sense of affection for each other as a result.)

The setting of a driving school was a novel element, and it was fun to glean cultural info about driving tests and car culture in Japan. Not a ton of complexity here, just a lot of nice elements and virtually no annoying ones!

Such a perfect one-shot BL! The story was well-paced and both of the main characters were distinct and compelling. The ending was great and I love how there is potential for it to be continued--which I hope it eventually is!

The characters are so cute! Chiba is a driving instructor, and Yaotome is a <spoiler>manga artist. Yaotome immediately reminded me of Nozaki from Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki Kun (a super adorable manga as well). Nozaki in that book also draws inspiration for his character from his real life friend, and I was instantly filled with happy memories and feelings! </spoiler>

The storyline is extremely quick moving, it is a one-shot after all. And still made me feel a plethora of feelings. I only wish it could have been longer!

Been a while since I read a BL and completely loved this.

Kingyobachi Deme is an artist I first got to read on Manga Planet/Futekiya’s library.. They have one BL (Lovin’ Your Face) and one slice-of-life with queer themes (Madoka’s Secret) available there and I remember both series fondly, and they were memorable enough for me to take noe of the creator’s name.

My Instructor Won’t Yield, however, truly surpassed my expectations! Not only both of the characters are so lovable that if someone were to hurt them, you would immediately thro hands, it’s commandable how Deme crafts a touching and emotionally moving story out of a seemingly simplistic plot structure that will be familiar to a seasoned BL reader.

The beauty of the art style was, again, something I expected reading the creator’s previous series but it’s lovely to see how Deme progressed and their character designs and panelling have become more refined! Definitely a sight for the sore eyes.

Highly highly highly recommended, do not miss this one!!

This is more of a 4.5 star than a 4 star. This was a cute single-volume boys love manga about a driving class taker and his instructor, with lovely art and a sweet story. It's very low heat, but the narrative makes up for it in lovely ways. Both leads are lovely and the cast in general is quite fun. If you're looking for more light-hearted/fluffy BL, this is definitely the thing.

This was a cute little story! It’s such a bizarre plot to have a romance featured at a driving school but it was surprisingly enjoyable. I really loved the progression of their relationship and how they had to work to get on the same page. Even that little bit of miscommunication on both their end just added to the fun. The art was GORGEOUS too, wow! I could have done with one more chapter, but I’m ok for the most part with how short it was.

My Instructor Won't Yield is just the kind of cute yearning long-time-crush BL I needed today! Here we have handsome Chiba who always gets hit on by the girls, and super nervous man who comes to the school to take driving classes so he can get his license - so that he can take his cat to the hospital if it needs! Wow wholesome.

I actually forgot about the cat until I started writing this review, Kingyobachi-san give us more cat!! Anyway, this cute mutual crush situation, nobody being like "wait I think I like boys?" which is so common it's refreshing when they are both thirty years old and know they're gay , we've got a Nozaki-kun situation with a mangaka who may have based a character on someone he knows... it's cute, I liked it.

This is a very cute and sweet BL that can feel a little too fast-paced towards the end but overall leaves a warm and fuzzy feeling in your heart. I can't wait to read the next volume.
Our protagonists are two grown men who meet during driving lessons and from there their story will begin to develop. The drawing isn't super detailed, but it's cute and perfect for their story.
If you are looking for a quick bl manga to read without big dramas between the characters, this is your story.
