Audrey and Theo's story is one of hope, love, and finding the things—and people—that make life worth living to the fullest. It's a story we need now more than ever, one where past trauma is acknowledged with deep honesty and understanding, but love brings us forward into a brighter future.

Michelle C. Harris's gorgeous prose doesn't shy away from bold metaphors to evoke what the characters are feeling, both emotionally and physically. ;) Luckily, these descriptions never feel trite or overblown, thanks to the fact that Audrey and Theo's deep connection is so tangible on every page. The effect is one of authentic, modern-day soulmates: neither of them are perfect, but they fit together perfectly. And despite Theo's many secrets, there are no frustrating miscommunication subplots; they both know that communication and trust are hard, but their love for each other is what gets them *to* communicate and support each other so well.

By a couple chapters in, I was cheering for both Audrey and Theo as independent characters as well as a soon-to-be couple—in fact, I'd happily read about as either of them individually, which makes their love story all the better. Similarly, the supporting characters (like Audrey's best friend Violet, Theo's all-but-brother Diego, and even Theo's therapist) are genuine and fully realized, giving the world a colorful richness and depth very appropriate for the NYC setting!

I personally loved the long epilogue from Theo's point of view; it gives a depth and richness to the full story and the characters, including their past struggles and their bright future together, that feels refreshingly different from most romances, while still fulfilling everything I'd want from a happy ending. And did I mention that the steaminess is hot and plentiful?!

In short: love shines brighter than pain, anxiety, and hopelessness in this deeply felt, beautifully written romance. A guaranteed re-read for me!
