This was such a fun read. I really enjoyed reading about this trio of friends who are aiming to make the greatest zombie movie ever, but immediately run into a number of problems. It was just so easy and entertaining to read!

The friendship that this guys have with one another was really great. They know each other, and they're comfortable, and I loved their ribbing of one another, from random ideas they have for the movie, to Justin's crush on Alicia.

The plan to make this movie is hampered by many things-they don't have a title, a full script (and attempt an all nighter just to get a partial script, which lead to the hilarious bed wanting to eat him bit), they have a month to do it before summer vacation, they have a very strict budget, but aren't approved to film at school...there were a number of things that were going wrong, and I loved every minute of it!

I really can't get enough of the humour though. This is a contemporary read, so you expect certain things, like chores and such, and then there's the absurd like an ex-con doing their costumes and make up, that a clown is messing up their shots. And the way that Justin's mind worked! It was so much fun to read!

I really had a great time reading this book, it was just so hilarious!

When three teenagers decided to make the greatest Zombie movie ever (hence the name), with only a month to do so, you know there's gonna be some trouble. Throw in a crush and you've got more laughs.

This was a funny and entertaining story to read!

Really funny YA novel about a group of high schoolers who decide to make a zombie movie. I laughed out loud many times, and loved how a lot of the gags were shown rather than told. The end was just perfect. Great stuff.

The book did not really work for me. I DNF'ed it. I wasn’t able to connect with any of the many characters in the book and I found myself putting down the book a lot because it was never really catching my attention.

This was a humorous book that gripped me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not a favourite, but definitely a recommendation if you're after a fun, light-hearted, and quick read to lift your mood in a short amount of time.

I can always count on Jeff Strand for a laugh out loud read and he comes through again with The Greatest Zombie Movie Ever. When 3 friends decide they want to make a movie about zombies, aka The Greatest Zombie Movie ever, minor details such as no funds, no time and a quickly approaching production date can't dampen their enthusiasm. With a crush as the lead actress and various family members to finance the project, you have the recipe for a humorous, fun, great read.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review, which has not altered my opinion of this book.

As soon as I started this book the main thought that was running through my head was that it would make a perfect Disney Original Movie. Honestly, that’s what it reminded me of. It was easy to read and quick and quite a bit of fun. There wasn’t much that surprised me throughout the book, but I wouldn’t have called it boring in any way. Predictable? A bit yes, but not boring.

My complaints would be that I really didn’t enjoy the ending, I found myself a little bit confused about what actually happened. Not only that but it just wasn’t all that exciting, I was underwhelmed overall. In conclusion, 3.5 out of 5.

Possibly the Greatest "Greatest Zombie Movie Ever" Book, Ever

A few years ago I read Strand's "I Have A Bad Feeling About This", which is a sort of middle grade summer camp raucous "service comedy" book. At the time I was struck by the fact that the author was adept at creating both slow-burn, slow build up joke sequences and rat-a-tat funny one-liners and crosstalk. Well, that's what you get here as well, just this time around we are passionate amateur zombie film makers.

Our hero is a good-hearted, smart, slightly befuddled and entirely engaging character who comes fully loaded with all of the quirks and endearing traits you might expect. His crew is nicely sketched in, his puppy love interest is worthy, and his passion for film making adds energy and focus without ever becoming tedious. A touch that's unusual in books of this sort is that Strand also includes interesting and slightly off kilter adults who get some time on the stage and who get some of the best lines, so the reader never quite sees what's coming and the writing never gets boxed in by predictable behavior from any of the characters.

There is silly stuff and deadpan funny stuff. Justin and his crew often engage in conversations that veer wildly off topic, but always end up somewhere amusing. As unreal as the action is it always seems like it could be real, and this clever exaggeration is what provides a lot of the energy and skewed humor. It ends up being a very satisfying mix of the outlandish and the slyly pointed. And, while the zombie movie angle is certainly fun, I thought it really took off as a send up of the entire film making process itself. The book is amazingly fast paced and just screams along, which seems to me to be right for this kind of story and right for the target readership.

So, a funny and big-hearted high school buddy comedy. A Great find. (Please note that I received a free advance ecopy of this book without a review requirement, or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.)

An entertaining read recommended for movie buffs and aspiring filmakers, as well as readers looking for a humorous tale packed with plenty of (fake) blood, guts and zombie killing.
