Always a great help to have a read of these samples. Gets an idea if a book could be for you. A lot including which was very surprising and a nice mix of different books.

I am always happy when a publisher puts together a sample/excerpt collection of books. I am able to get a better idea than a book description provides and have found many, many books to add to my TBR list. I was excited to see this Macmillan Winter 2018 Book Club Sampler knowing I would potentially be able to discover some new authors and books. I wasn't disappointed as there are some books that seem like they will be very good and I am most excited to read The Family Next Door by Sally Hepworth, The Sun Does Shine by Anthony Ray Hinton and Lara Love Hardin and The Recipe Box by Viola Shipman.
I have seen discussions on book sites that seem to imply that readers either love or hate book samplers. If you fall on the 'lover' side, I recommend this collection. If you haven't given this type of book a thought, you might want to try it and see if it is something that helps to grow your TBR list.
Thank you to the authors, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the complimentary copy to read and review. I thought 2017 was a year when I read some of the best books ever, but 2018 is looking like it will be just as good if not better.

I love Samplers because it allows me to get a taste for a book (1) to see if I like it before I decide to read it and (2) to have the potential to be added to a never-ending TBR list. With so many good books out there, Samplers are a good way to get a general idea about new releases and if they seem interesting. I thought this was a good collection with a lot of potentially interesting reads - including (but not limited to) The Italian Party (which is already on my list), Gods of Howl Mountain, and The Coincidence Makers, among others - and I think 2018 promises to be a good reading year!
