Amanda was born in space on a ship. She's called an Earther despite having never being on the planet. She is one of a crew whose ancestors were from there. Planets, not space interest her. When a new planet is discovered, she can't wait to explore it. When she arrives, she can hear the trees whispering to her. It seems no one else on the ship can hear them. Upon arriving, she meets the people on the planet known as Harp.. It is an Earth like planet with secrets of its own. When she meets Rhodry, the leader of a mountain clan and an elite member of the guild, sparks fly. Rhodry is anxious to get the Earthers off Harp, before they destroy it. When Amanda wants to join the Guild, which protects the people from the predators as well as The Green, which protects the planet, she does more than survive the experience. I don't want to give away some of the most important parts of the story, but I loved it. Amanda is a strong woman who loves Harp, but some want to send her away. Rhodry is a born leader with a strong protective streak. Interesting story and I can't wait to read the next one. I received this book from Net Galley and Entangled Publishing a honest review.

Shifter Planet by DB Reynolds is set far in the future. The heroine, Amanda, an Earther who lands on the planet with her shipmates, feels an immediate connection to the primitive planet Harp and the hero Rhodry. He is a member of the elite Guild who protect the citizens from the predators that roam the forest. Things get complicated when Amanda decides she'd like to train to become a member of the exclusive Guild. Deeper issues are explored as she tries to push against long held boundaries. Should she give up or continue on her quest to prove she is worthy? The adventure is epic and the love story is heartwarming. I hoping DB writes a sequel!
