GETTING ROUGH - C.L. Parker

#2 in the Monkey Business series

Erotic - 3 stars

Plot - 3.5 stars - This book clearly continues from the ending of the first in this trilogy. Shaw follows Cassidy to her home town in Maine, and they begin a new sort of relationship.

Writing - 3 stars - I expected to really like this book because of the setting and the very different situation between Cassidy and Shaw than in the previous book, but it just sort of fizzled. The characters are interesting, but they really didn't generate the same sort of excitement in this setting. It was definitely a let down.

Characters - 3.5 stars - I like the characters for the most part. Cassidy is strong and determined, although her competitiveness is sometimes exhausting. But she's cute when she's being frisky and stirring things up. And she loves her family--always a good thing. Shaw is the typical alpha male, but he recognizes that, which makes it seem less offensive. He does become overwhelmingly obsessed with sex, although the scenario really calls for it when he keeps getting cock-blocked for a while--very funny. Their relationship is complicated but definitely sexy. It was good to get to know Casey a little better, although Cassidy's attitude towards him was often annoying. The friction between Casey and Shaw brought back some of the competitive edge, but it was resolved within a few pages, which was disappointing. I liked Mia as a secondary character, but she didn't have a strong presence in the book.

Title - 3.5 stars - This is a good title since it talks about the competitive business they are in, their office relationship, and their personal sex life. It's all tough and rough and over-the-top.

Cover - 2 stars - This is disappointing since it's such a bland cover for such an erotic book. Black and white--meh.

Overall - 3 stars - Overall, this didn't stir me. I liked the characters just as much as the first book, but the "I love him/her, but I'm afraid to say so" ambivalence went on way too long. The competitive streak between Cassidy and Shaw that made the previous book so exciting was mostly absent, and there was very little mention of the office. The sex scenes were good but not compelling. Although there were some highlights, this book was pretty ho hum for me.

Thank you for the opportunity to review this title. Unfortunately, I found it difficult to connect to the story. As I didn't completely finish this book, I will not be publishing a review. We do not feature uncompleted books on the blog. Although this title didn't work for me, I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Sexy. Sweet. Unforgettable. I love this author and the stories she writes. Great chemistry. Undeniable attraction. Smoldering tension. Characters that make you feel everything. Highly recommended this book y'all!

GR picks up right where PD ends, with Shaw traveling to Maine to track down Cassidy. I really am enjoying this series and cannot wait to read the final book. I didn’t expect the entire book to take place in Maine but once I was done I couldn’t imagine their relationship blossoming the way it did if they were anywhere else. The biggest thing to throw me for a loop was the chapters that were told from Casey and Mia’s POV’s. I felt one of Casey’s was necessary, but I’m just not invested enough in these two characters to care. It did take me out of the story and I couldn’t wait to get back to Shaw and Cassidy.

This is the second book int he Monkey Business Trio series. I loved Shaw and Cassidy in the first book and was glad that we got more of them in this one, but I did feel that this one sort of drug on for some reason. Shaw and Cassidy were rival sports agents that were enemies but became lovers in the first book.

We get to go to Cassidy's hometown in Maine. This was a lobster catching small town that makes you feel right at home the minute you get into town. The chemistry between Shaw and Cassidy is still smoking and the connection between them is unmistakable.

There is a love triangle introduced in this book with one of Cassidy's ex boyfriends, so if you are not fond of those just beware! It is resolved quickly but we do get that one in this story.

I thought this was a good next installment in the Monkey Business Trio, but thought that it maybe should have been a novella instead of a full book. I am anxious to see what is in store for us next from C.L. Parker in this series.

This is the second book in the Monkey Business trilogy. I loved the first one but, this one tended to drag on a lot. They are still great characters but it dragged in some parts of the story. Cassidy is offered a promotion that she has to turn down due to family issues. Shaw accepts the it but, goes looking for Cassidy because he has unfinished business with her. Cassidy still harbors some feelings for he ex. Book ends with a cliffhanger hope it adds a different couple because I don't know how they can add more to this story.

This was a great followup to the first book about Cassidy and Shaw. In this one, Shaw follows Cassidy to her hometown to try to find out why she turned down signing the athlete that the two had been competing over in order to win a promotion. Cassidy and Shaw were great in this one, and there were some wonderful secondary characters. I loved the way that Abby, the mother of Cassidy's childhood sweetheart, Casey, took Shaw under her wing and mothered him. The storyline was a great one, and i kept me interested and wondering what would come next. I really enjoyed this book!

So YAY omg part 2 of monkey business definitely has a lot of character development for Cassidy and Shaw.

Like when I say MAJOR DEVELOPMENT, I am not shitting you.

We left off on book one with Shaw winning the major sports contract, learning his new player was GAY and earning a major company position. However, Cassidy has gone M.I.A after a family emergency and Shaw thinks shes just a sour loser. So with the ego of a moron, he decides to FOLLOW HER HOME. Not so bright but he does get a glimpse at the real life of Cassidy.

Her parents are sweethearts and Shaw also gets to meet the much talked about Casey (pissing contest ensues) and a new character named Mia. Mia has no idea what weirdness she is in the center of, bless her heart and she also makes me want to clobber Cassidy a few times too.

There are a few additional P.O.V chapters for the newbs that I didn’t think I would enjoy but I really did love because it gave such great insight to their motives.

Was the ending expected? Just a wee bit but OMFG THE PREVIEW! GET IT GET IT! Bring the tears.

I had a hard time with this one ... the writing was seamless, the characters well developed - but I don't like love triangles nor can I handle cliffhangers and this book had both. Maybe I will enjoy this one more when the last installment comes out.
