What I liked: The setting and incorporation of Scottish lore. I love stories set in the Scottish Highlands, and the author does a great job with the setting and atmosphere. The historical setting adds to the building relationship, and the mystery/intrigue works in this novel.
What I struggled with: This reads like a debut novel that could have benefitted from a strong editor. The pacing is uneven, and some of the chapters/sections feel rushed.

I must admit that it took me a while to jump right on this but at the same time the fact that it was a male author intrigued me. I will always love me a highlander/laird read. It just gets me very much. Paden and Faolin were a unique pair? The meet at a water rescue. They fall in love rather quickly. They find that righting a wrong could cost them their lives. Paden was to be married off to another. Faolin was accused of killing his brother.
Taking the time to read this historical romance will allow for you to see new face, new couples, new romance although quick romance. These couples knew what they wanted. John gave me a romance to move the time along. It was not top notch but it was enough to have me with a smile at the end of the read.
