My kids adored this book! Arlo the armadillo journeys to New York City following the directions left to him through his grandfather’s travel journal. The illustrations are soft and inviting. I love that Arlo visits all the real sights a tourist would visit in NYC. This book would be great for anyone planning a trip to the city with their family or to read after visiting the city to reminisce on places visited. I’m excited to check out An Armadillo in Paris next.

This book had so much potential. I was honestly unimpressed with the text. It contained good information, but I feel like it could have been presented better. The illustrations, however, were quite engaging.

The best part of the book are the illustrations and then the facts at the end of the book about the Statue of Liberty. I thought, even though this is a children's book, it was too short -- at least, didn't give enough detail about NYC. Also, it reads as if Arlo is touring the city with Lady Liberty but then later goes to see Lady Liberty. I thought that might be confusing to children (it is to me!) Also, it mentions how busy the city is, then the drawings show a serene, relatively peaceful city with few other inhabitants. Still, all in all, a fun little book.

I received an ARC copy from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
