The novels in the Savannah Reid mystery series by G.A. McKevett are always fun to read, and Killer Reunion,, the 21st installment in the series is no exception. Newly married to handsome, Dirk, a police officer, Savannah travels back to her hometown, McGill, Georgia and her 25th high school reunion. Savannah was fired from the Southern California police department (for being overweight), and now runs her own Moonlight Magnolia Detective Agency. She was raised by her beloved Granny Reid and is excited see her again. Since she isn’t skinny and svelte, Savannah almost dreads seeing her old high school friends, and is delighted when she is finally able to get revenge on one of the meanest classmates, Jeanette Parker, who bullied Savannah all through school. But when Jeanette ends up murdered, and Savannah becomes the number one suspect, she and Dirk must work together with Savannah’s old flame, who happens to be the sheriff (and is convinced that Savannah is guilty), to find the real murderer before she is convicted.

McKevett is a seasoned mystery writer and does an excellent job of developing her characters so that they seem like real people we know and can relate to. Squabbles in a large family are inevitable, so the way that the siblings interact in Savannah’s family are believable scenarios. Savannah seems comfortable with her excess weight, so readers who are always dieting, can have a bit of respite and just enjoy a fattening snack while reading this novel. The writing is good, and the mood set from the beginning of the novel is one of wittiness and humor.

Although this novel is a cozy, and has no graphic violence, language, or sex, it has plenty of sexual innuendo, making it less suitable for the young adult set. There is plenty of building suspense, however, and enough twists and turns to keep readers guessing until the end.
