This book is an eye-opener! The combination of financial exploitation and actual neglect/abuse (such as drugging vulnerable children and elderly) is shocking. There is something very wrong with a situation where a nursing home resident requests to go to the bathroom often, and because of that is drugged and sent for a psych exam, and the psych exam conclusion is that she has a UTI!

While not the most elegantly written work on current events or politics, this is certainly the kind of work that those who are part of the United State's populist movements (both rightwing and left) will find compelling. The villains?
The government and corporations. The victims? The working poor. The heroes? The people. At times, far too reductionist but given the lack of nuance and engagement with the realities of poverty, any call to arms is necessary.
