Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this book very much especially towards the end of it. The novel is your basic werewolf story though I would say this had very little to do with the kind of lycans one would usually read about. There were no alphas or hunters or anything like that. Plus, the book deals with a lot of sports which I'm not a huge fan of.

The pacing of the book was fine. It goes at a brisk pace but there were a lot of grammatical mistakes. This combined with improper sentence structure made the writing seem haphazard. All in all, I was looking forward to reading a story that brought a new spin on werewolves. However, this book did not live up to that expectation. Although, I do feel that kids who are just entering into the paranormal genre might enjoy this book as it is very tame. But the story is not relatable to adults or older YA readers.

Full disclaimer: I interviewed the author for Book Riot several years ago, and I was sent a free copy of her book.
If you're in a good mood for a werewolf story and conspiracies, then this one is for you. Nessa has a chance encounter with a wolf, and suddenly her senses are heightened. She would rather focus on college plans.

YA title for fans of werewolf stories and quite possibly the Teen Wolf show. The nice twist here is that the lead is obviously a "girl", hence the title. Female werewolves aren't something that is shown in a lot of fiction, so this is a nice twist. Well=paced and fitting to a teen reader who is a werewolf fan.

Exciting little preview, though not sure how this one really stands out amongst the plethora of other werewolf YA books. Will probably check out the rest of the story to see. Not too much in terms of blood and guts so far, so might be nice for younger YA readers who are less familiar with the genre.

Weregirl is such a wonderful young adult fantasy, with amazing characters. I found that the main character and her best friend never seem caughter up in the teen angst that is filled in many YA books. There are some strange events, and a dark presence that seems to be the root of evil in her town. This book is filled with enjoyable content and I really enjoyed it. It's a very quick read so most defiantly worth it.

Weregirl is a slow build fantasy book about a girl who turns into a werewolf. It is unlike any werewolf book I have read. I enjoyed the details on how Nessa turns and learning with her as she starts her new life as a werewolf. There is, of course, an evil cooperation and teens trying to save the day.

Although this book started off slowly, as our main character, Nessa, started to transform into a werewolf and her cross-country running pace became faster, so did the books pace. There are many things I liked about this book. Not only that the main character is female, which is always fab, but the friendship between Nessa and Bree, the relationship between Nessa and her coach, and most of all, the twist on what could have been a bog standard werewolf story.
This book goes in directions you're not fully expecting and you realise as you get to the end of it, that the whole story isn't just about the weregirl. Its so much more than that.
Once I got through the first few chapters and the story started to pick up, it was a really easy read. C D Bell is a fantastic writer and I would definitely read more of her books.
Part of me really wants this to be a stand alone book, but another part of me wanted there to be a sequel. Who knows?!

I adored this book! I was completely drawn into the story right away. The more I read, the more I wanted to be a werewolf too!
It gives me Stranger Things vibes with the big mysterious corporation in the small town.
I plan to post a full review of the entire trilogy as soon as I finish Weregirl: Typhoon and will update with a link as soon as it's ready!

1.5 Stars. This wasn't the worst book ever, but it definitely was not great. The characters in this were either mildly annoying or straight up dull. I feel like this story might have been better told on screen than in a written format. Or it could just be that the author was not great with describing stuff. The story was of paranormal, sci-fi, and mystery. I wasn't super interested in the plot most of the time but it did get a smidge more interesting in the end. Overall, this was a very passive read for me.

This was a great start to a new series about a wereGIRL! Original concept and plot, great characterizations and fast-paced. A minor romance and major 'scientific' twists and turns involving the genetics and testing on animals, kept things moving along briskly.

My only complaint, and it's tiny, is, with all the explanations of the altered wolves the evil pharmaceutical company created, and the 'werewolf from birth' tale of one character, there is never an explanation, logical or otherwise, of why Nessa is made a wolf. Yes, she gets bitten by a wolf. But what's special about that wolf? Why was Nessa, in particular, bitten? Why has no one else in the town ever been bitten and turned? All these questions are blithely ignored, leaving the littlest of a bitter taste in the readers mouth.

This is an excellent example of a ya or younger aimed book that still is interesting and fun for adults to read as well.
The kid (I can't remember how old the kid is, a teenager, certainly) is not some kind of teen wunderkind, that oh so annoying self deprecating yet stunningly pretty girl who gets all the gifts and somehow manages to save the world whilst doing... Not at lot.
And that's what makes it compelling. She's a teenager. And acts like one. And that's refreshing. She has her passions, her hobbies, her friends and normal teenage interests, like boys and what the popular girls are saying about everyone at school. And that's nice to see, a normal, everyday character that ends up in an extraordinary circumstance.
This circumstance occurs through a werewolf bite. And she freaks out! And that's brilliant! Finally, a normal reaction to trauma and something mind boggling! So many books of these genres have the protag just shrugging off the whole supernatural thing and being totes cool with it, and thats so jarring. Its nice to read a realistic reaction.

Adding a good plot and plenty of mystery, good friendships and a well thought out progression of character means this book is one level up on most YA fiction. I'd happily read a sequel.

This was an interesting read. It was slow in parts, but still enjoyable.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

I honestly don't know how to start so I'm just going to say it.
It was the BEST werewolf story I've ever read! EVER!

I expected it to be good but not as good. I mean I fell in love with all the characters, and the plot. It was slow at some points but it never was an issue for me. The best part of the story is that everything was "realistic" or let's say "believable".

Nessa, the main character, didn't get all the super powers in once when she became a werewolf and she didn't know how to use them immediately. She had to learn slowly how everything worked. And that's the part that impressed me the most. All the human interactions were believable! Nothing seemed awkward or forced!

Also it's not all about werewolves. It's also about a typical teenager life in a small town, it's about sport and competition, it's about something weird going on in the city with some authorities, it's about doping etc... But nothing is ever too much it's always well described and balanced as it would be in real life.

From the beginning I tried to figure out things and let me tell you I was as close as I was far from the truth... I was on the edge all the time. I really did enjoy this book! It was so refreshing and so different from all the cliché books and shows about werewolves. I would definitely recommend the series to anyone because yes book two is already out and the third one is coming super soon!

Weregirl by C.D. Bell, a first rate fantasy YA novel that pulls you in quickly and makes you want to know what happens. A unique take on how one comes to be a werewolf and very well told. I look forward to the future books.

When I heard about this book I was really intrigued to read it as the synopsis reminded me a lot of Teen wolf which I am a huge fan of. By this I mean with our main character Nessa running in the wood and getting bitten and then her best friend stepping up and being the friend she could confide in about all the wolfy business. I admit it was a bit confusing at the beginning when she was learning that she had become the wolf but after that I absolutely loved the story plot. I loved the friendship between nessa and her best friend and also the relationship between her running friendas which we saw a lot of character development and I liked how my guess of who the first wolf was come true. As you can probably tell I absouletly loved this book and I felt myself fly through it and I’m so happy I have the rest of the Trilogy thanks to netgalley to fly through and finish the trilogy.
I gave this book 5 stars as I felt connected to it from beginning to end.

I was strangely drawn to this story. On the cusp of something. I needed to see how it ended but yet needed something more. It is a unique read and I’m interested in seeing where the story goes with the next book and what secrets the town is hiding.

A decent start to a YA Urban Fantasy series. I'd recommend this to fans of The Mortal Instruments, Twilight and suchlike.
The main criticism I would have is that several characters could have been better developed, which would have made for more satisfying plot developments in the third act, and the conclusion would have also been much more impactful. But overall it was well written, a fun read, and I enjoyed the themes that were explored throughout.

This is not your typical werewolf story. I was a bit confused at first because in most shifter stories there is a community of shifters that are there to help the newly turned wolf learn how to live with their new condition. In this story there wasn't. After being transformed into a werewolf, Nessie seeks council from a shaman who explains what she must do in her new form as a wolf. He tells her it is a gift and that she must use her new gift for the betterment of society. Nessie is trying to deal with the high school angst that everyone goes through while learning to cope with becoming a werewolf. Nessie joins a family of wolves that try to communicate that something is happening in her town. She discovers that the town's "benevolent" company is actually an evil corporation that is secretly experimenting on people and wolves. Her little brother, Nate, is involved in a medical trial run by that company. When one of the kids involved in the study mysteriously dies, Nessie works with one of her friends and another wolf to try and discover the company secrets to find out if her brothers life might be in danger. Overall, I liked the book. I wished that there had actually been a better explanation of how a regular wolf could transform her into a werewolf. I was glad that she could join the wolf pack but still didn't understand why she was changed. Thanks to NetGalley for giving me this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

What a great intro to a new series!

Loved the tone and pace of this book as well as the protagonist being a female teenager working through the issues of coming of age along side becoming a werewolf. Nessa is a very likable character for whom I developed a deep empathy.

The writing in this book made me want to get up and run... even though I know it's not a good idea for me personally. It's very descriptive, and the exhilaration Nessa feels when running is contagious.

I enjoyed this book so much that I dove into the second book without remembering to write a review! LOL

**I received an e-ARC of this book from NetGalley to review.**
