This one was okay. I enjoyed the plot but it could use more character development. Overall I enjoyed the book.

Was not a fan of this one.

I hate to be critical in reviewing because I know that authors spend their blood, sweat, and tears to create books. However, I just didn't think this one was worth the time.

Poor character development, not a great plot, and I also didn't like the writing style.

I wasn't going to finish this but decided I could push through since it was so short. Will not be requesting more from this author.

My Girl by Jack Jordan has more twists than a coiled rattler and is just as hypnotic. The non-stop pace of thrills and suspense will keep you reading through the last word. A must read!

My Girl by Jack Jordan is absolutely one of the worst books I have EVER read!

There is no character development for ANY of the mere 7 haracters, so you feel nothing for any of them. There is also a point in this book, where it feels like someone decided to take the first half of one book and do a mash-up with a totally different book and the only thing that keeps it cohesive is that they changed the names of the characters to match up. The last half of the story has very little to do with the first half and never even takes a moment to solve some of the mystery of the first half.

I have not read any other books by Jack Jones and never plan to do so after this disaster. It felt like he just wanted to see how shocking and over the top tramatic he could make this story, while giving no thought whatsoever to having it make sense and actually come together as a story. I would not recommend this book to my worse enemy!

(Only reason I finished this book was because it was short and I had made a commitment to Netgalley to read it and give an impartial review.)

I did not enjoy this one sadly. It did not hold my attention. I may just not have been in the right place at the time to properly read and enjoy this book.

This book was split into 3 parts and as I moved from 1 part to another, the transition was really smooth and the story held my interest all the way to the end. Paige's story of drugs and alcohol was told with compassion. Her life became a living hell at the disappearance and murder of her daughter, and the suicide of her husband. Her inability to cope with her grief draws her away from her family and her friends, her behaviour becomes more and more out of control Excellent psychological thriller, with plenty of twists.Thank you to NetGalley for the copy of the book for my review today.

"Paige Dawson: the mother of a murdered child and wife to a dead man.

She has nothing left to live for… until she finds her husband’s handgun hidden in their house.

Why did Ryan need a gun? What did he know about their daughter’s death?

Desperate for the truth, Paige begins to unearth her husband’s secrets."

Not crazy about this book. I didn't care for the writing style and the second half and ending left me like, "what?"

Not sure I can recommend. You may like it, but it wasn't my kind of book.

Thanks Jack Jordan and JJP for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Paige Dawson: the mother of a murdered child and wife to a dead man.

Why did Ryan need a gun? What did he know about their daughter’s death?

Desperate for the truth, Paige begins to unearth her husband’s secrets.

But she has no idea who she is up against, or that her life isn’t hers to gamble – she belongs to me.

From the bestselling author of Anything for Her, Jack Jordan's My Girl is the new chilling thriller that you won't want to miss.

I really couldn't put this suspenseful thriller down, it was full of twists and turns, and I was white-knuckle tense as I read this one. Can't wait to read more from Jordan.

I wanted to like this book because it seemed to be right up my alley. A mystery, a murder and a woman out to search for answers but what I attained from this book was just absolute confusion and bamboozlement (I don't think this is a real word but I like it henceforth I will use it).

We meet Paige, a drug addict and alcoholic, who is living her days either high as a kite or black out drunk. She has become an addict to cope with losing her only daughter to murder a decade ago and then her husband who had committed suicide 2 months before the start of the plot.

From the get go, I had disliked her as a character. I felt that she was rude to her mother-in-law Greta and is a selfish person. I understand that people grieve very differently and the loss of a loved one takes a horrific toll on your psyche but she has to realize that she isn't the only one who has lost loved ones. Greta and Robert, her in-laws lost their son and their granddaughter too so I really do feel like sometimes Paige just has to get her head out of her ass and get shit done.

Also, this might have to do with my Asian lineage whereby you do not be rude to your elders no matter whatever shit you have been through. Shit talk behind their back is fine because you know you're just venting.

Other than having problems with the main character, I also had problems with the writing and pacing of the book. The writing takes me out of my feel when reading it because I honestly felt like this book had no over-arching plot. The author did try to put in bits and pieces of plots here and there but they felt more like appetizers than anything and I am reading this book confused as ever as to what exactly is happening.

We follow Paige as she goes through her day; wakes up, gets high or drunk before the afternoon rolls along then she gets annoyed and is rude to Greta then she blacks out and it repeats. There are instances where the author tries to create suspense by insinuating that Paige might be losing her mind as she realizes that things in her house are moved around or are missing but she has no recollection of it but this is such an obvious trope that it just fell flat and is uninteresting.

The pacing is just all over the place, the first half of the book is slow, boring, depressing, plot meanders all over the damn place then you get to the second half of the book and shit just hits the fan and I am completely baffled at the audacity of the writing.

I did not anticipate the plot twist not because it was a good plot twist but because it came so far out of left field that it is akin to Sherlock Holmes mid-case just came out and announced to everybody in London that he and Watson have been moonlighting as Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy to pay their bills.

So, in conclusion I disliked this book because of the plot and sloppy pacing and this book was just not my thing.

This is my first book by Jack Jordan and I was pleasantly surprised. Paige Dawson is our lead character and in short she is a mess. She is a functioning alcoholic who pops pills to make her life seem a little easier. Since her daughters death 10 years previously as well as her husbands more recent suicide she is sliding down a slippery and very destructive route. At first she is written off as somebody who is seeing things when she convinces herself she didn’t leave the TV on, or the recorder playing. Of course everybody else assumes its Paige in her own world. Pretty soon Paige knows that something is amiss especially when she discovers that her husband was hiding a gun in their house.

The writing was good and the pace was certainly set early on in the book. However, there were a couple of things that I think could have been left out (such as the issue with her Doctor, that made me super uncomfortable) and at parts the story felt padded when it didn’t need to be. Those small niggles aside I think this was an interesting read which certainly kept my attention. I will definitely be reading other books of his I have waiting on my ever growing to be read list

I read this over a year ago and remember nothing except that it was darker than I expected. I did not post a review online. I rated it three stars.

This book was very sad to read at the beginning. It was depressing to read all that Paige was going through and what she was doing to herself. The story took a huge unexpected turn about halfway into the book. This was a major turn for where I thought the storyline was going. I was left with my jaw dropping and was completely mortified.

I felt shock, anger & sadness for what happened next. I HIGHLY recommend this to any and all readers love the thriller/suspense genre. I am sure this one will leave you with your jaw dropped too!

Jack Jordon probes the darkest depths of depravity of the human psyche, where true evil takes root that is the cause of criminal behavior and acts. This is an unpredictable, disturbing terrifying story that provokes an extreme unsettling reaction that no two readers will interpret the same way, each person must read the novel and decide for themselves--as the story moves towards its surprising conclusion.

I tried to get into this book but at 20% I had to stop reading. I did not like the characters or the writing style

While this was a touch on the creepy or disturbing side, it was a rather easy and quick read. This is great for an afternoon train/plane/car ride but not for someone looking for a novel to get lost in for more than a couple hours. The writing is good and the plot is intriguing and not easily forgotten.

Where do I even begin? Psychological thrillers with a gruesome,. grisly feel, that twists you up and spits you out... Uff, my FAVORITES and this one DELIVERS. I can't even say much otherwise I will spoil it for you.

There is a twist, but we get it in the middle so you get time to let it marinate in your brain while you watch the characters unfold from it as well. You get a little cliff hanger-ish at the end - you need answers to EVERYTHING? You're not gonna get it but it does NOT take away from the impact of this book.

Just read this - do yourself a favor and DO IT. I don't believe in trigger warnings, but for those incapable of reading about sexual/physical abuse, you may want to skip this.. but it would be a shame.

Thank you to NetGalley and JJP for this free readers edition. In exchange I am providing an honest review.

C.r.e.e.p.y. The people who come up with these stories and characters...how? why? does it provide any insight into their own personality or just mean they have a really good imagination?
Paige is alone. Her daughter, Chloe, was abducted and killed a decade ago and her husband, Ryan, killed himself 2 months ago - he couldn't take it any longer. Paige relies on alcohol - white wine is her favorite - and pills to get through her days. She isn't living any kind of life and she's barely surviving the existence she is occupying now. Lately Paige has noticed some odd circumstances and she doesn't think the pills or alcohol she's been living on are to blame. She would remember these things happening...wouldn't she? Because of her addictions Paige doesn't have any friends and family is minimal - Ryan's parents help as they can and Paige's father and brother are trying to help as well. When Paige finds a gun in a secret drawer of Ryan's desk she wonders why he had it and starts to look for answers. But her questions lead her to a very unexpected answer, one that carries with it more shock than anything else.
Jack Jordan is a relatively new author and definitely new to me. He writes what has become a favorite genre of mine - psychological thrillers. While this title is only his second book his writing has the style and feel of someone who has been writing - and being published - for years. Solid story development, great characters, and the ability to tell a story in less rather than more words - something I appreciate because I am unable to do it myself. I also really liked that when this story concluded nobody had all the answers to all the questions in the book - sometimes we don't need all the answers. This is an author I'm keeping on my bookshelf.

I love a good thriller and this was one if them. Paige has a lot of anguish which she tries to subdue with pills and alcohol. Her 14-year old daughter Chloe has gone missing, but all that was found was her arm floating in the river. Then later Paige's husband commits suicide. Paige feels she has nothing left to live for and becomes, almost a recluse in her home with just her alcohol and pills for company. Her mother-in-law tries to help, but when Paige discovers that someone may be breaking into her home, she begins to distrust her. Then Paige discovers that her husband had been keeping some secrets from her and this encourages Paige to go out and try to get some answers for her child's disappearance and her husband's suicide. The story has a very unexpected twist about midway through, which makes the story even more suspenseful. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery thriller.
