I didn’t request this book, it just appeared in the download list, I am unsure of how it got there.

This is the second book that I have read of Piper's and the second in the True Heroes series. After I read Absolute Trust I was hooked on this series and wanted to read more about these characters that Piper wrote about.

Piper did a great job of creating well developed characters. From Elisa's back story to why she was in town to Alex Rojas and his daughter and how they landed in Hopes Crossing. In addition to creating well developed characters, Piper also did a great job of setting the scene. From the beginning of Elisa being on the run and looking for another place to stay for a couple days to dog kennels that she later found to be a sanctuary. It was so well written and vivid that you as the reader could imagine being in Hopes Crossing.

As for the writing style in this book i think it was very well done as it had a mix of different styles: romance, family and suspense. It had me hooked from the very first chapter until the very end as you didn't know what way it was going to end.

My favorite part of the book you would think would have been the romance, but it wasn't. Don't get me wrong Alex and Elisa definitely had a great love story and good connection but to me the connection between Alex's dog and Elisa was what I found truly very interesting. It was cool to see a dog and a human both afraid to open up and trust again be able to do so with the help of each other.

I think that the only part of the book that I would have changed would have been the end of the book. It felt rushed, which was weird as the whole book was leading up to it. I think there is definitely more that could have been done and it just didn't do justice to the well written first part of the book.

I am interested to see if she does any more books in this series after the next one, if not I am definitely interested to see the next series that she has to write as I definitely enjoyed this series so far.

Wow, just, wow. I honestly could not put this one down. While this is only the second book in the series, this series has easily became one of my top favorites. Each time I finish a book, I am dying for the next one. I have fallen in love with these men and I can't wait for all of them to get their HEA.

Alex is a single dad that has no expectations of finding someone to spend his life with. He is comfortable working at Hope's Crossing while raising his daughter and is really just trying to live his life one day at a time. The last thing he expects is for someone like Elisa to show up in his life and rock his carefully planned world. The more time he spends with her, the more he begins to realize what he has been missing in his life.

Elisa is running from a past she wishes she could forget. When she ends up in need of a job, Alex offers her one on a trial basis. She couldn't be happier with her new found freedom and blooming life. However, she knows that the longer she stays, the greater the chances are that she will bring danger to the kennel and everyone around her.

When Elisa's past shows up to suck her back into the life she wants to forget, it will be up to Alex to keep her safe. Will he be able to save her? Will Elisa finally tell Alex how she feels? In order to find out, you HAVE to read this book. I promise you will not be disappointed.

If you are in the mood for a romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat while making you drool from all the mouthwatering men, then this is the book for you. I loved it from the beginning and thought the author did a wonderful job roping the reader into the book. I though Alex and Elisa were perfect for each other and I couldn't get enough of them. Great job Piper!! I can't wait for the next book in the series!

I was really enjoying this until the end, when Alex ditches Elisa in her moment of need. He knows that a crazy stalker is after her, and he abandons her without a concern for her well-being, after losing his sh$t when he hears a rumor about her. I thought that there was more trust and substance to their relationship by that time, that he knew and understood all of the awful things she was forced to do until she could make a break for freedom after escaping from her cruel, controlling fiancé. But, nope, he didn’t even give her the benefit of that doubt.

Other than that, I enjoyed getting the know the staff at Hope’s Crossing Kennels, especially the dogs. I don’t usually read much romantic suspense because stalker stories are my least favorite trope, and romantic suspense is peppered with them, but this had just the right amount of danger and romance to keep me engaged in the story.

This is a romantic suspense book. Alex is a retired Navy Seal and a single father and when he sees Elisa in the ER he knows that she also is someone who is having a rough time. She does not want to bring her troubles to him or his daughter but when she starts to work for them and helps them with their books, and other files on their computers. He is hooked. His daughter has also taken a liken to her and not having any women around he knows that is something she needs. Then there is a dog that they are having problems with but the dog likes Elisa. When Alex notices a threat towards her one day in town the story really picks up with action and he and his partner, along with the dogs work on helping her and taking care of the threat. This is a good story with action.

This is one of my favorite new series. I love this group of men and their dogs.

In the first book you learn that Alex is a single dad to a little preteen. Alex is a great dad and works hard to provided for her and him.

Alex meets Elisa at the hospital after having his daughters arm checked. And from there Alex offers Elisa a job and the rest is history.

So what I love about this series is that it has the perfect amount of romance and suspense.

From the beginning Alex and Elisa take a liking to each other. And gets along good with his daughter.

I loved how protective Alex was with Elisa and his daughter. He is such a great character and he has a huge heart.
