There were several things I adored about the final book in the Ladies of the Manor series. The humor between Cayton and his valet caught my attention and made me laugh aloud. I enjoyed Kira Belova and the dash of Russian culture that came along with her. The pregnancy and babies were wonderful! It was interesting to see the illness that came up, because it isn’t one I see featured a lot in fiction. It was handled well and was not so detailed as to make me woozy or anything. I liked that the leading lady had a tendency to wander off and get a bit lost. This was a fun aspect of the story. I loved that the Fire Eyes diamonds were woven throughout the entire trilogy. That was a really neat thing, and it’s got my own writer’s mind spinning with ideas.

I feel like I didn’t comprehend as many details as I wanted to, due to the physical pain I was in while reading. Perhaps a second read at some point will improve my rating from three stars.

Favorite quotes:

“Life is more interesting with a bit of fancy thrown in—don’t you think?”

“Death was an inescapable part of life.”

“Everyone needs bread for a journey.”

Content: one profane word, mentions of Pegasus (Greek mythology) and Hindu tiger gods

A Lady Unrivaled is the third and final book in the Ladies of the Manor series. I have absolutely loved this series and recommend it. The characters are real and the stories have held my attention to where I didn't want to put the books down. I started this one pretty much right after finishing the second one, The Reluctant Duchess, and it was just as captivating as the other two.

The story was entertaining and I liked how the book continued the "Fire Eyes" diamonds storyline. I also loved the romance. It was fun to see Ella and Cayton interact and his hidden love for painting was cute.

Because the books are all related, I recommend you read the series in order to best enjoy it. If you like historical romances, I'm sure you will be glad you picked this one up. I can't recommend it enough and look forward to reading more of Roseanna M. White's novels.

Multi-talented author/editor/designer, Roseanna White presents her Ladies of the Manor series, set in Edwardian England.

In A Lady Unrivaled, Lady Ella Myerston decides she will take action to protect her friends from further danger of the Fire Eyes diamonds. Lord James Cayton broke two ladies’ hearts, and now he wants to mend his ways. But old acquaintances try to lure him into stealing the diamonds. Lady Ella intrigues him and he tries to protect her, but she won’t stay out of danger. What happens when they discover their true feelings for one another, in the midst of a desperate attempt to steal the jewels?

White concludes her exciting series that is more than a novel about relationships between the main characters. Elements of mystery, faith, lore, and danger permeate the series. More character than plot development -- although the plot is well-developed and has a number of twists, each book is rich in historical detail, family history, as well as romance and adventure. The relationships are wholesome, making these books “clean reads.”

A Lady Unrivaled
Ladies of the Manor #3
By Roseanna M. White

Lady Ella Myerston is not to be denied and unfortunately for her family she's determined to protect them from the cursed Fire Eyes that have been sought for years. But unraveling the rumors and whispers she's heard from the truth about the cursed Fire Eyes is more difficult than she realized it would be. First up in her plan a visit to Brook and Justin and their library at the Cotwolds to gain as much information as she possibly can. Unfortunately Ella has placed herself in the greatest danger possible by unknowingly bringing the highly sought after gems with her.

But when Lord Crispin Rushworth returns from France with his sister Lady Catherine Pratt the web of intrigue and danger draws tighter. And Lord Cayton is approached by Rushworth to aid him in his quest to claim the Fire Eyes. But Cayton is not the man he was before, the loss of his wife changed him. His young daughter is now his life and he'll do anything to keep her safe and to be the father she deserves. And he is determined to keep Lady Ella safe in spite of her efforts to put herself in the direct path of danger.

When Cayton and Ella determine to work together to stop Rushworth they come up with a plan to hide the truth about their time spent together. Unfortunately their plan could bring Brook's wrath down on them and get Ella sent home to her brother. Could the deception of courtship become truth?

The mystery surrounding the Fire Eyes comes to a climax with A Lady Unrivaled the third and final novel in the Ladies of the Manor series. Mystery and romance are to be expected but there is an added dose of foreign intrigue with a Russian interest in the gems, Everything is coming to an exciting conclusion with the lives of all those involved in danger. Greed is an imposing master and those who fall to its power must decide to leave it behind or risk losing everything.

This book is perhaps the best in the series in my opinion but that could be because I so enjoyed Ella and her independence and kindness. If you've read the previous books you'll understand when I say Kitty is a pitiable character who plays a role throughout and is still in mourning over her husband and son. Kitty is a character one is never exactly sure of and this book finally answers some questions about her.

I was provided a review copy of this book by the publisher with no expectations of a review positive or otherwise - all opinions expressed are my own.

Storyline
A Lady Unrivaled is the third and final installment in the Ladies of the Manor trilogy. It dives into a new adventure, this time with Lady Ella Myserston wrapped up in her own story surrounding the infamous "Fire Eyes" red diamonds. Lady Ella, Lord Nottingham's younger sister, is a happy soul with always a smile on her face, and has often been viewed as young and naive. However, she knows much more than anyone gives her credit for and therefore takes it upon herself to protect her brother and new sister-in-law from the dangers of the Fire Eyes. When she takes off to visit her friends Justin and Brooke, she takes the diamonds with her. But where they go, danger is sure to follow!

Lord Cayton, whom we have been introduced to in previous books with a reputation as a heart-breaker, is determined to live a better life after the loss of his wife and the prospect of raising his daughter alone. His cousin Justin offers to help, but matters complicate when he learns the ever cheerful and beautiful Ella will also be present. He vows to stay clear of her for her own good, but soon find they must work together to keep their loved ones safe when danger once again follows the Fire Eyes.

Depth
Cayton constantly wrestles with himself and his past choices. How does one start over after making such poor choices? How can he become trustworthy and escape his old reputation?

We thoroughly enjoyed the journey the author takes Cayton on. We also appreciated the depth of some side characters, mainly Kira, a lady's maid in disguise, who is being threatened to gain information on the Fire Eyes. The author allowed us to dive into the lives of many characters we have come to know but also gave us a glimpse into the lives the servants lead as well.

Additionally, some of the main characters either have a broken past to deal with or currently have great pain to contend with. Broken families, past mistakes, and unfulfilled dreams are addressed.

Faith
The faith many of the characters have is real and evident. Justin has not given up on his cousin, and meets with him every morning to go through the Bible. This has a profound impact on Cayton. Will he be able to accept forgiveness and allow himself to be who God has called him to be? Ella too has some growing to do and she learns to start trusting in her own instincts in what the Lord is leading her to do. She chooses to trust in the Lord's guidance even when it does not make sense to others. There is also darkness in this book and shows those who have chosen to let greed and bitterness run their lives. Not everyone turns to our Savior for redemption but we are thankful to see that many do!

Love Story
Lady Ella is intrigued by Lord Cayton but knows she shouldn't be; her friend Brook would never approve. But there is just something about him! Cayton can't help but feel something stir in his heart for Ella but he won't do it, he cannot let himself fall for her. He does not feel worthy to be loved again. His insecurities make him push her away and often comes off moody when around her in an effort to protect her. But Ella can see right through it and consistently flirts and banters with him. It is often quite comical. It may take awhile but these two start to grow on each other and the love they share is very sweet.

Overall
This book ties up all the loose ends from the trilogy. We enjoyed this series and the many characters we came to know so well. However, we must add that this book does seem to drag on a little more than the other two as the author tries to bring the story to a close.
