Such a cute book! My son used to be afraid of getting his hair cut. We read this book often. He always laughs at the different animals getting different types of haircuts. Especially the elephant, because it’s my favorite animal and elephant doesn’t really have any hair to cut. Maxwell to the rescue!

A cute rhyming story about a monkey barber who can tame all kinds of hair! The illustrations really make this one fun! Also recommended by this author, one of our favorites – Explorers of the Wild!

Maxwell is the best barber in the jungle. The animals all come to him for a trim - but what is he to do when Elephant shows up with no hair? This is a super sweet rhyming story with hilarious and adorable illustrations. The one with Maxwell using a banana for a mustache is my favorite!

Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.

Maxwell is the resident jungle barber and deals with all manor of unruly manes! But then one day a sad elephant comes in opining his lack of locks. Is there anything Maxwell can do to brighten up the elephant's lifelong dream of hair? The illustrations were quite cute too and Benji enjoyed picking out the different animals, and we had fun determining who in the last picture needed a 'wig' or a 'chop'!

This is a cute rhyming story of Maxwell the jungle barber who is a monkey. He cuts the mane of a lion, the beard of a bear and more. Then the elephant comes in and asks him what he can do for his cold head as he has no hair. This is a great book for young children or as a bedtime story. The illustrations are appealing to children and they will love the different characters in the book. I recommend this book to 2-5 yr. olds.
I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Maxwell the Monkey Barber is a cute and adorable read. It highlights the differences in others and sends a lesson that no matter how different you are, you are still uniquely beautiful. All children should read this and their parent's right along with them. My son loved this book and we read it around four times within two days. Lovely book! We need more of them.

Maxwell, the monkey, owns a barbershop! He loves his job so much!
Many different animals come to him to get trim, chop or a special style for their hair.
And Maxwell is good at his work with his scissors, everyone is satisfied by the cuts.
Be it the lion or the bear or any other animal, there's no hair Maxwell can't fix.
He even has solutions for the one without hair!
The illustrations are funny and out-standing!

Monkey Maxwell has found his true vocation. Big hair or no hair, he is the man for you.

His daily customers are as unusual as it is for a monkey to be the owner of a barber shop in the first place.
The baboon carries half of a zoo on his scalp by now and is in urgent need of a haircut.
The lion needs help to untangle his mane and bear has turned into a hipster and wants the beard shortened, but the elephant has a totally different problem. The poor guy is follically challenged.
Maxwell, true to his passion finds a solution, but does his idea work and will the big bald animal like his new look?

We see, Maxwell’s shop is doing well, because he’s clever and knows how to please his customers. Everyone is send home with the same compliment, “You’re hair is the best I’ve seen today.”
I had a lively discussion about Maxwell’s customer treatment with my preschoolers and it’s fascinating to see how quickly quite a few of them understood, often enough we are “charmed into business”.
The best seller is always the one, who understands, the customer is a human being (well, most of the time) and has feelings.
Sell emotions and your business will do well. That’s why a cardboard box with junk food and a cheap plastic toy inside is a Happy Meal.

Overall, Maxwell the Monkey Barber is a very funny and whimsical picture book which young children and early readers will enjoy. The illustrations are hugely colourful and tie in perfectly.

There isn’t a lot of text and some of it is repetitive, which helps with a reluctant reader. Personally, I would’ve liked the cheerful rhyming story to go on for a bit longer, it ended on my Kindle at around 66 percent.
