I'm a real sucker for anything Bronte. I enjoyed the illustrations quite a bit more than I thought I would. A very good adaptation of a classic!

This was everything I could have wanted in a manga adaptation of Jane Eyre.

This story is particularly dear to me, as my mother read it to me as a kid and it was the first novel I read on my own. I haven't read it since childhood so I looked forward to reaquainting myself with the story in manga form.

I felt the story was very well told in this adaptation, the art was very nice and not too cartoonish (a problem I had with the Anne of Green Gables adaptation). The narrative flowed nicely and the characters seemed well captured. I absolutely loved Jane's character, I loved how strong she stood in her self- knowledge and convictions, and wouldn't let herself be swayed by the forceful men in her life who supposed to know what she wanted better than she. Mr Rochester is an odd fellow but I did rather like that life humbled him a little and that Jane didn't fall at his feet when he was rich and smug.

Great job all round by the adaptation author and artist.

I'll start this by saying I haven't read Jane Eyre yet. I probably will now since this manga and another retelling I read recently were enjoyable. While I know it isn't really possible to fit a whole book into a manga easily, I enjoyed this one. It didn't feel rushed or forced in any way. It says that the artwork isn't the final for my review copy, but I felt the art was well done. I'm looking forward to reading more of these.

I read the original version of this book in high school (about 10 years ago), and as far as I can remember the story is accurate.

Jane Eyre is an orphan being raised by her widowed aunt. Her aunt despises her and punishes her frequently. When the opportunity presents itself, Jane is sent away to Lowood School, a school for poor girls with no or only one parent. Jane spends 8 years at the school. She then places an advertisement in the paper for work. The only response is for a job as a governess at Thornwood which Jane accepts. The master of Thornwood, Mr. Rochester, is rarely home and a bit strange. Jane falls in love with him, but she believes that he is too good for her and he is courting another woman. Suddenly Jane must return to her aunt's home as her cousin John has committed suicide and caused her aunt to have a stroke. Her aunt has sent for her. When Jane arrives, her aunt explains why she was so cruel to Jane and then passes in the night. Jane returns to Thornwood where Mr. Rochester proposes to her. On their wedding day, it is revealed that Mr. Rochester is already married and that his wife is mad. Jane refuses to become his mistress and runs away. In doing so, she accidentally discovers her cousins whose father recently passed. He left his fortune to Jane, but being the generous person she is, she splits the inheritance between herself and her three cousins. Her cousin proposes marriage, but she refuses and goes to discover what became of Mr. Rochester. She discovers that his wife set the house on fire and jumped to her death. Mr. Rochester refused to leave the house until he knew everyone had escaped. The staircase collapsed on him, and he lost his left hand and eyesight. Jane doesn't care, and Mr. Rochester proposes again. She accepts and they are married.

This is the second manga adaption I've read now and I could not be more obsessed with them!

They're true to the original stories whilst incorporating the manga style perfectly. I was captivated and couldn't put down this amazing adaption.

I can't wait to read more manga classics.

I love this idea! The art is lovely and the story is a classic already! Great way to get young readers and fans alike to read this.

I loved this book. I had always wanted to read this great classic but felt intimidated to read the full novel. So this manga adaptation has aroused my interest a lot.

The story begins just like a Dickens novel. Jane is an orphan and is ill-treated by her aunt and cousins. So she develops a nature of anger and rebellion. But then at boarding school she meet Helen who changes her completely. Later on in the story as Jane becomes part of the staff at Thornfield hall; the romance developing between her and Mr Rochester is still evergreen even in this day and age. I also prefer the ending where both Jane and Edward unite and complete each other in their imperfections. What a story. I wish it could continue....

Loved the art. It also helped me understand the story of Jane Eyre, which I was able to read very easily after this one.

Before I start I want to thank the page for providing me with this adaptation manga, this is the second I read from a classic of literature, I have to be honest, this book never caught my attention, I felt that it would be the same as another book (pride and prejudice ) or at least I would play the same key, I am glad that I dared to read this because it took me a pleasant surprise, the story is wonderful and being beautifully narrated and illustrated in the manga makes it an entertaining read, and they give want to read the book in its original format.
the characters are lovable, they are not perfect, they have their flaws and that makes you feel attached to them, you feel closer to them, and they themselves recognize their flaws, it is not the typical love story, it is not perfect, but it manages to overcome the obstacles. and the ending was perfect.
One of the things that I liked was the drawing, it is beautiful, and the funny scenes are the best since it illustrates them in a way that you say is a manga, it does not lose its essence, but it does not lose that classic touch of the novel.
As I said, I do not regret having read this, if you are not sure about reading classic novels, the manga adaptation is a good starting point, since it will make reading very pleasant, totally recommended.
for me it deserves 5 stars out of 5.

I have always loved Jane Eyre’s gothic themes. It was a change of pace to see manga illustrations which are more colorful than what the story sounds like. The artwork is beautiful, and it gives the story another perspective.

This was my first Manga Classic and I loved it!

I read the instructions (to read from back to front and right to left), but it still took me a few pages to get used to it. After that, the experience was fine.

I found the adaptation to be faithful to the original story and I liked the way it was presented. The artwork is amazing! It really brought the story to life.

I will be looking to read more Manga Classics.

I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Overview
I knew Jane Eyre when I started this novel. I enjoy the story, and I call it one of my favorites. This was the second Magna Classics I've read. Overall, I enjoyed this book, but I would not rate it five stars.

Plot

The plot remains the same, with some beats of the original novel getting more, and some getting less time depending on importance, I think we could have used more time getting to know Jane as a child, and seeing her interact with the family she stayed with. Those characters are an important part of the plot, and I feel that this Manga just rushed past these interactions. We could have seen more development between Jane and Mr. Rochester as well.. We see the start of a relationship, and they get married. Suddenly Jane leaves, and it leaves you wondering if she will come back if you don't know the story. What I think could have been less was Jane and her cousins later in the book. I understand why the authors made that choice; I feel it would have been a better emotional beat if this was shorter. What I loved was the courtroom scene and the scene with Mr. Rochester's wife.

Characters

The characters in this book remained true to who they were as people. I really enjoyed reading about them and they were brought to life because of the art. They were not changed much from the original novel, and they still had the essence of the original novel. The writer used what they saw in the characters in drawing from that. When you adapt a book, this is something I look for. The characters still have their difficulties, much like in the original novel.

Writing

The writing in this book was excellent. This is a more modern language than the original book, but most of the story remains the same. Even with the more modern language for the writing, you still get the points of what Jane Eyre is about, and this writing makes it easier to understand the story. I enjoyed this book, and the writing was one thing that I loved the most.

Art

The art was fantastic, and it brought the story to life. I enjoyed the designs, and how each character looked different from the others. The art style was cute and really worked for each of the characters for me.

This adaptation was really well done! The art style is elegant and beautiful (even though my copy is black and white; I can't wait to see it in glorious full colour!) and I'm impressed by how a full-length classic novel was pared down to the wordcount required for a graphic novel, without losing any of the story. It's pretty neat to read a telling of [book:Jane Eyre|10210] from start to finish in just an hour or two without feeling like there's something missing. I enjoyed it even more than the original, which says a lot.

I plan to buy myself a physical copy for those times when I want to spend a lazy afternoon with one of my favourite literary characters of all time. I'm also eager to read more titles from this manga classics series, but I haven't decided if it would be better to read the original versions first. I'm pretty sure that would be the best order, but I'm not sure if I can resist these graphic novels for that long now that I've had a taste. They're definitely a fun way to experience the classics, especially for those who find older books hard to plod through.

Can we just talk for a moment about how many classics I still haven’t read? But, I’ll be damned if I haven’t seen a film or show adaptation of them (or, in this case, read the manga!)

It has probably been five or more years since I watched the 2011 version of “Jane Eyre” with Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender. After reading the manga, now I want to read Charlotte Brontë’s original work!

Plus, why not see the film again, am I right?

I am once again impressed with the Manga Classics graphic novel adaptation. Although I have not read the original book, the manga was on par with what I remembered the movie to be. However, Mr. Rochester seemed more comical in a sense. But that could just be me. The film was dark, and not just tone-wise. Everything about how the story was portrayed was mute and dreary colored, if that makes sense (especially to anyone who hasn’t seen the movie). It’s indicative of how we’re meant to feel as we follow Jane through her life. Even with the black-and-white drawings of the manga, the dark and sad feeling was still there to grasp the reader. I loved that.

For those who haven’t read Jane Eyre, let me give you a little taste of what the book is about.

Jane Eyre is a young woman, navigating through the hardships of life with no family. Now, I say no family but what I mean is, no family that cares for her. Jane has a horrible aunt, and several cousins she is forced to live with after her parents’ death (according to Jane), and they all hate Jane! It’s not Jane’s fault; her cousins are all just little brats. When Jane’s aunt cannot handle dealing with the “horrible and despicable” Jane, her aunt ships her to a boarding school. Yikes. And that goes about as well as you would think.

But through all her hardships, Jane grows to be a sensible, obedient and patient young serva—I mean, woman. Poor Jane is continually treated like she is garbage.

Until she meets Mr. Rochester and his darling daughter. Then everything changes… Sort of.

Jane learns a lot from being a tutor, and she absolutely adores Mr. Rochester’s daughter.

Except, Mr. Rochester is a bit of a nutcase. I mean, he practically faked an engagement to get a rise out of Jane, AND pretended to be this crazy old fortune teller. What even?? How did she not see he was weird?

Overall, weird and neat! I liked the story, and I liked how Manga Classics portrayed it.

Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a review copy which in no way swayed my opinion.

Going into this adaptation I was just a bit concerned because Jane Eyre is one of my favorite stories and some of the adaptations were a miss for me. But i didn't need to worry. While the manga followed the story closely, the added element of illustration really brought it to life in a way that I enjoyed and that I can see others enjoying as well. The story itself flowed quickly and smoothly. I think that this adaption would be wonderful for readers who are afraid or inexperienced with classics and would like an accessible and easy to understand adaptation.

Really enjoyed this manga version of Jane Eyre. Also loved the animated graphics. I need to pick up the actually book! This was super easy to follow along and read. The graphics made it even more enjoyable.

Beautiful work that stayed very true to the original.
4 stars, because I still feel like the beauty and power of Jane Eyre cannot be contained or properly portrayed in a shortened, illustrated version of it and I didn't like the way Mr. Rochester's character was designed and portrayed.
But if you are a fan of mangas and a fan of Jane Eyre, this is a no-brainer.

I thank Netgalley and UDON Entertainment & Morpheus Studios for a copy of the e-book to read and review.

I think this manga is an amazing classic adaptation that really does justice to the original story, but it is more accesibile for younger audiances due to its amazing drawings.

This manga truly made me want to read more classics, and mangas altogether. It has truly outstanding illustrations, and it adds a cute side to the story that makes it even more loveable!

First of all, I loved the illustrations. I haven't read the original book yet since I am not exactly a classics lover and I find it tough to get through. But this one was fairly easy. But I didn't like some of the flow in dialogues much, and since it is my first Manga ever, it took me some time to get used to the format. I recommend to all Manga lovers. The illustrations are really good and expressive.

Unfortunately, I had to DNF it.
