This book has many tropes that I enjoy. The grief aspect was well-handled, and I love the fact that the plot revolves around a bucket list and a road trip. Both are things I love in novels. Additionally, there were nice little additions like bed-sharing, which I appreciate. There were a few clichés but all in all it was a solid read. |
Unfortunately this book was not for me. The characters and plotline fell flat and I lost interest in the story quickly. |
Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book. After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley. I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity. Natalie. |
This one did not end up working for me, however, I know there are lots of people that loved it so it appears that it's just a personal problem I had with the writing style. |
I loved this book so much! Summer trip type novels are my jam at times and this one hit all the right notes, steeped in heartbreak but beautifully woven I could not get enough and I need more Rachel Bateman like yesterday. Sort of a Morgan Matson vibe, but in her own unique way. If you're a contemporary YA fan you must read |
The book gave me a real summer feeling but overall it was quite up and down for me. The story was a bit cliché and I was bored a majority of the time. I was more intrigued by the synopsis. |
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review. Unfortunately I am unable to give you a proper review. I apologize for the inconvenience. I am just no longer interested to read this book. I appreciate the approval. |
I received this arc from NetGalley for an honest review. When Anna's sister dies and she finds a diary of how her sister would spend one perfect summer, Anna knows she must follow her sister's plans. There's a lot of sadness and grief in this story, but also good times and learning to live without the ones you love. Overall a decent read for teens. |
Despite the premise for this book being fairly cliche and typical, I really enjoy these coming of age, finishing unfinished business, dealing with grief type stories. That being said though, without Cameron, I really would've hated Anna's character. She was bratty and her anger was very often misguided but by the end of the book I actually grew to like her, but Cameron was my favourite throughout. |
A quick summer read, fast paced, cute and with lovely caracthers. It was interesting to read how Anna tried to over come her anxiety so she could finish her sisters to do list. |
I got about 30% through this book before I realized that I wasn't having a great time reading it. Something about the story felt off to me and I couldn't connect very well with the main character. I was really intrigued to see where her relationship with her love interest would lead, but not enough to commit to the rest of the story. I liked the family dynamics of this novel. I think it had a really strong start and I could really feel the grief everyone had. Overall, this story isn't for me, but might be a great read for anyone looking for an emotional, summer contemporary! |
I loved the overall general idea of this book and the sweet summer romance that unfolds itself. It was interesting to read how Anna tried to over come her anxiety so she could finish her sisters to do list. Overall it was a very clean, quick read by a author new to me |
I really enjoy reading this book, it reminded me of many of my favorite contemporary stories. The main character was sympathetic and the relationship that developed between them was very endearing. Road trip books are very interesting to me, and the frame of the list left by her sister made for a fast-paced reading experience. It was a very emotionally satisfying experience. I would definitely recommend this to fans of Morgan Matson or Jenny Han. |
Good day! Before anything else, I would like to extend my deepest, sincerest gratitude for sending me a digital review copy of this book (via NetGalley). Thank you very much for the opportunity! Unfortunately, I am sad to say that I have lost interest in this particular title, and consequently, I have decided against finishing it. Forcing myself to finish a book I am disinterested in (solely for the sake of finishing it) can only negatively impact the entirety of my reading experience, which, in turn, could result in me writing an unfairly negative review. That is a circumstance I hope to avoid. With that said, I believe that the best course of action is for me to simply not read it and to refrain from publicly posting any feedback regarding this book. I hope you understand where I'm coming from. Again, thank you for the lovely opportunity! |
Anna sister is killed in a car accident and Anna is at a loss as she worshipped her. This is a great YA read telling the story of sisters and their deep connection. It is a difficult theme but the writing is beautiful and the author tells it delicately and with empathy |
First of all, how cool the author’s surname is?! It’s almost like Batman, but with E in between. And now… let’s get into the book… This book is perfect for summer (ok, I know I’m late, but you can always read it on a sunny day, even if it’s not summer, or maybe save it for next year?), and it’s perfect combination of serious and emotional with lovely and swoon worthy. The story follows Anna who lost her sister Storm. One day she finds her sister’s bucket list, and along with Storm’s best friend Cameron she spends the summer trying to cross of as many things from the list as she can. This novel is an emotional roller coaster that I couldn’t put down, and I understand why many people say it’s their favorite. |
I am a sucker for road trip books. I just love them so much, and a good road trip book to me is like the perfect book to read–especially if I am in a rut. Someone Else’s Summer is a really good road trip book. It has everything you expect: searching for identity, mishaps, high jinx, romance, and unexpected twists and turns; however, Someone Else’s Summer is not predictable or like any other road trip book. It has all the feelings of comfort with new adventures, characters, and conflicts. Storm was the opposite of Anna, but she was Anna’s very best friend, no matter how much they’d grown apart in high school, so when Storm dies, Anna knows she has to do something to honor her friendship with her sister, and it had to be something like what they did as kids. One of the things Storm liked to do was make to-do lists; however, her very last one is one that Storm will never be able to finish–so Anna decides she needs to. And it is only right that Storm’s best friend and the boy next door, Cameron, accompanies her. |
This book was mostly cute! Similarly to some of the other books on this list, I really regretted picking it up for the first 50 pages and didn't know why I had requested it in the first place. Of course, as soon as I thought that, they pulled up a list. I love anything and everything to do with lists or games or challenges in books, so I'm quite sure that's what drew me to this book. In any case, it wasn't what I was expecting, and a lot of the situations made me intensely uncomfortable. Still, the road trip vibes were cute, and I enjoyed it for what it was. |
Someone Else's Summer is a coming of age story. Anna's older sister, Storm, dies in a car accident on the night of her graduation. Some time after Storm's accident, Anna finds her sister's journal which includes a summer bucket list. Anna decides that. to help her heal, she will do all of the things Storm wrote down on her bucket list, along with Storm's friend and neighbor Cameron. What unfolds from here is an inspirational story, which ended up being a great summer read. I recommend this book as an easy read. |
This was overall an easy read - but I recommend it. It makes you think about your own bucket list and your own choices in life. There's even a great twist at the end. |
