Description

Bookmasters is pleased to present you with a first look at the recently translated title The Basics of Make-Up: Morphology and Visagism by Marta Guillén Muñoz; a revolutionary how-to manual for professional make-up artists. With make-up artistry, the goal is to achieve the highest possible degree of harmony rather than create a major transformation. The Basics of Make-Up begins by listing the parameters that define makeup: Skin condition, Client's age, Style and personality, Occasion, Time of day, and Colors. These factors must be considered for any make-up application.

With only a minority of the population being lucky enough to have the "perfect" face, or one encompassing the ideal individual features in its geometric shape, it is important to first understand how to study the face and understand that beauty is not synonymous with perfection. This book combines Morphology; the study of biological form and structure, including the aspects of shape, color and function, with Visagism; a European technique that focuses on creating an image based on one's personality, bone structure, coloring, and symmetry, using specific make-up techniques. For example, with a rounded face, corrections should aim for a narrowing effect. Lines applied according to a vertical trend help create a lengthening optical effect, meaning that the eyebrows, eyes, blush... should be slanted upwards, avoiding horizontal or rounded lines.

In addition to illustrating the correction of specific facial shapes, The Basics of Make-Up also gives a visual instruction of correcting specific facial features including the forehead, nose, chin, eyebrows, eyes, and lips. The chapter on "Choosing the Right Color" gives amazing tips on how to make corrections such as camouflaging small spots and blemishes with a green, generally compact corrective base or brightening up a dull, olive complexion with a pink base. And of course, what make-up guide would be complete without an overview of brushes and tools, essential for any make-up artist.

With photos and illustrations to guide you along every page, this book is a perfect addition to any cosmetology course or a professional looking to gain new perspective on make-up artistry.

We would appreciate any feedback you can provide in order to assist us in determining the level of interest in The Basics of Make-Up: Morphology and Visagism.
