A Young Child's Introduction to the Classics is a series of books that use complicated classics and render them for younger audience. Tom Sawyer take is amazing. I cannot take my eyes away from painting looking pictures. As an adult I can appreciate the colors and styles used to created this book. A child on the other hand would be introduced at a young age, to an otherwise, lengthy work and about timeless characters. A great idea for young and future readers.

I grew up reading the adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn and wanted to introduce them to my five year old grandson and I can't think of a better way to ease him in. This beautifully drawn book breaks down the story and introduces Tom Sawyer in small easy to read pieces.

'Read-Aloud Classics: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' by Charles Nurnberg and Joe Rhatigan with art by Glenn Harrington is a picture book version of the famous story condensed down for younger children.

Told with a series of lush and beautiful paintings, this is the story of Tom Sawyer. Here is Tom who plays hooky, and paints a fence. He has adventures with his friend Joe and Huck playing pirates on a raft and going inside a haunted shack and finding a cave with treasure.

The rough bits are suppressed. Even the parts with Becky seem to have been lopped out. What's left is a pretty gently story with nothing to frighten small children. What wins it for me are the illustrations. Full paintings fill each page, and you can see the brushstrokes flowing across the rivers and skies.

This acts as a nice introduction to a classic work by a classic author. I first read the full book when I was 8 or 9, but this is meant to provide some familiarity for younger readers, and a lovely to look at one, at that.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Moondance Press, Quarto Publishing Group, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

A wonderful re-imagining of Mark Twain's classic with lots of gorgeous illustrations that make the characters and places from the book truly come to life.

"Read-Aloud Classics: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" is a pleasantly illustrated and surprisingly faithful picture=book adaptation of the Twain classic novel. While kids may not reach for this title off the bookstore or library shelves on their own, parents will gravitate to this and the other books in the series. Parents and children alike will enjoy the gentle retellings before bed or on rainy days, and kids will remember the stories as they grow older and their skills enable them to read the originals on their own.
