Description

“What makes you think I need the money?" I asked.

“Girls always need that little bit extra. I don’t want you to lack for anything when I’m around to give it to you,” said Emeka.

That was just what I needed - an invitation to ask for anything without having to give up something for it. I smiled.

Law student Jade has every intention of holding on to her virginity until her wedding day and lucky for her, Wale, her boyfriend, is understanding.

Jade is content with the allowance she receives from her parents, but when she meets Emeka, he seems willing to give her whatever luxury she desires with no strings attached.

Until the day Emeka blocks Jade's number and wants nothing more to do with her. What lengths will Jade go to maintain the lifestyle she's grown accustomed to?

This journey takes us through the decisions Jade makes, one of which might cost her her life.

I found this to be quite an interesting read, as narrated from the viewpoint of Jade. She's the youngest daughter in a loving family and struggles with the challenges of social perception, lifestyle and trying to fit in- in both high school and college. What starts out as a friendship, an understanding between her and Tobi, opens her up to a world of what Jade terms being a "prosy" and soon enough she's caught up in trying to sustain a lifestyle she never thought would be her's in the beginning.
It's also a story about friendship and the consequences of choosing friends.
I loved it and received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Thank you so much to booksgosocial via netgalley for sending me an ARC copy of Good girls dont put out by Bolaji Eyo.

Oh my goodness this was hilarious! Laughing out loud is an understatement. Jade is in love with the boy next door,Josh and has this fake relationship with him, hes her boyfriend but he doesnt know it... shes just the girl next door to him therefore Josh has a real girlfriend and when Jade finds out her "boyfriend" has a girlfriend she is broken.

But Ben is there to pick up the pieces of her broken heart, too bad Jade is so focused on getting Josh back to notice him.

Very funny book. Great if you need a pick me up or prefer to read something light. The story is one that is very common, woman discovers her "boyfriend" has a girlfriend. What makes this book funny is, the boyfriend does not know he is in a relationship with Jade!! There is another man that wants more but the main character Jade, is too focused on her "boyfriend" to see it. The writing holds your interest and the you will laugh out loud at times. I found myself rooting for Ben. Thank to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book in return for my honest review.

I enjoy coming of age stories and this definitely qualifies as one. You meet Jade while she is a still a girl to get a bit of her 'backstory' before being brought to her college years.

The idea of remaining a virgin until marriage as a goal is not unheard of. However, this book takes that notion with Jade wanting to also experience love to a different level.

She manages to hold out for much longer than her compatriots. But, what ultimately has her giving it up is pure economics. Through one of her childhood friends, Jade is introduced to a world best described as escorting where young girls go on dates and engage in sexual acts in exchange for money.

Her first time IS with the beloved in her life. And it is spectacular. But, it also solves the 'problem' of not putting out and securing the financial reward she wants.

However, her newfound freedom is short-lived. She finds herself pregnant and her boyfriend will not believe that he is the father. Her friend tries to convince her that an abortion is the only answer. Yet, her appointment is canceled when the clinic has another young girl dying during a procedure.

This is when Jade must truly find herself.

Overall, the story was good. My only challenge is that the setting (Africa) had some nuances to the story which are foreign to me and made the story take longer to read. However, I did enjoy seeing how Jade grows and ultimately finds a path for life.
