The Goddess & the Slaver

Lue, the son of merchants in 5th century Ireland, is destined to become a merchant like his father until his life takes a different turn: He is left in the care of the King Osraige and raised in the royal palace while his parents work with the King to build a new wall and moat.

Lue and Osraige’s son and heir grow up together and become firm friends. But life in those times is hard and dangerous, with the new religion of the missionary Patrick rising in prominence above the established worship of the Sun Goddess. People with an agenda of power and riches pledge allegiance to whichever religion they think might serve them best, changing their beliefs to stay ahead of the power struggle.

Lue and the prince are torn apart when the old King is poisoned and Lue’s parents are blamed, chased out of the kingdom and eventually die mysteriously. The orphaned Lue becomes hardened and distrustful of everyone, even his one time friends. Then the new, young King converts to the religion of Patrick, sparking a bloody battle for power with almost nobody being who they seem.

A blend of history and fiction, real people and fictional characters, this sweeping saga tells the story of what it might have been like living in Ireland in those times, when Kings, druids, pirates, slaves, slavers and governors from Rome were caught up in the deadly drama of the era.
