My Big Book of Bible Heroes Devotional by Glenn Hascall is a great way to introduce young children (ages 7+) to spending regular time in God's Word. It is a full color, glossy-paged, softcover book of 160 pages. There are 50 chapters, each dealing with a different Bible character, including Adam and Job, prophets, and kings, disciples and women of faith as well. The individual's heroic story is told in a page or so with Bible references listed and a prayer that relates to the story as well as five questions to encourage the child to apply the devotional to his own life. I am looking forward to sharing this book with my 8-year-old grandson. Kids are always looking for heroes to imitate...who better than those who have chosen to follow God's way.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

It's nice to see a devotion book that targets middle grades. It seems like there are a lot of devotional options for very young children and pre-teens/teens, but there are not a lot of options out there for middle grade. "The Big Book of Bible Hero Devotions" fits the bill for those elementary-aged children, however. Full of colorful illustrations, "The Big Book of Bible Heroes" details the stories of many real-life "superheroes" and how their amazing actions helped others and, in turn, helped God. There are lot of strong character words to emphasize with kids, such as "brave," "courageous," and "fearless." While this book is excellent for both genders, the use of those character words particularly interested my son. In addition, "The Big Book of Bible Hero Devotions" didn't stop at the "common" Bible stories, such as David and Goliath, Noah's Ark, ect. It included those stories as well as more obscure characters, such as Gideon and Jochebed. My number one complaint about devotional book for kids is that they tend to never move beyond the "common" stories, so I LOVED that component of the book. If I were to suggest improvements, I would note that the suggested scripture passages included with each devotion were rather long, up to two full chapters of the Bible. My kids started drifting from the passages due to their length, but many of the devotions didn't incorporate enough of a summary of the story to skip the passages entirely. Also, some of the discussion questions were rather abstract, and I found myself trying to reword them so my first- and third-grader would understand. Overall, I thought this was a wonderful devotion and look forward to reading more of it to my children.

Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me to preview this book in exchange for my honest review.

Great way to bring the Bible alive to young children. I loved how they showed how characters in the Bible are brought to life and presented as heros. My 6 and 4 year old LOVED this book

My Big Book of Bible Heroes Devotional by Glenn Hascall is a wonderful devotional. I am a teacher at a private Seventh-day Adventist school. I read this devotional to my students and they really enjoyed it.  This devotional is colorful and easy-to-read, focusing on 50 Bible characters; such as, David, Mary, Ruth, Daniel, and Samson and something heroic about their lives. There are also some less familiar people included which will teach children their stories, too. The format is nicely laid out with a Scripture reference, devotion, and a short prayer followed by five questions to encourage individual introspection.

This is an educational and encouraging devotional for girls and boys aged 7 to 12. The reading level is 2nd/3rd and the message is not only interesting but thought provoking. This devotional shows kids that heroes are everyday people. God uses and loves us all. It would make a great devotional for grade school children and even lower middle schoolers. The book could be very useful in shaping the character of young lives as they look at real heroes from the Bible.

I received a ARC from Shiloh Kidz via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I give this book/ devotional 5/5 stars.
