Brain Lab for Kids

This book is chock-a-block full of activities for the little kids and also the not so little kids to join in with. There are fun activities and science experiments, lots of things to help understand how the brain works in the way it does. The books is colourful, the activities look fun and the instructions on how to do them are clear and concise! They tell you how long each activity will take and what you need to do them - the good thing is that most things you've probably got in a craft box somewhere. With each activity there is also a little section on what the activity does to the brain and how it works.

A fun educational book, great for kids of all ages!

Family friendly science activity book for young science lovers. The book is pretty straightforward about what it is and what it contains, and it does not disappoint in the 'full of brain science'. category.

The good
-Great projects and experiments, and a nice amount of them (52)
-Bright, colorful, interesting photographs

The bad
-Difficult to look at with the color combinations chosen. The project headings are a vile shade of pink, with clunky fonts.
-The symbols repeatedly used to indicate 'Thinking Deeper," "Brain Facts," and "Whats Going On?" are unattractive and seem outdated.
The book is difficult to look at, but the content is good. It just needs an artistic eye to polish the layout design.

Brain Lab for Kids contains 52 experiments, models, or activities. Each lab touts step-by-step directions, a materials list, safety tips, brain facts, a section for deeper thinking that has an extension to the lab for more extensive learning, and an explanation of what’s going on scientifically in the lab. Each lab also has many fun and colorful pictures of the process. Although younger children may enjoy participating in the labs, I think they are generally best suited for older children who would have a more advanced understanding of the terms and scientific process. I personally would prefer the print version of the book over the Kindle version because I like the additional text formatting contained in the print version. This is a fun book for kids who surely will love the hands on learning process.

This is an excellent book that teaches children about the many things the human brain is capable of. Through a series of science experiments, children will learn about several different parts of the brain and how they work. The book is built around different units, including the neuron, brain, reflexes, taste, smell, vision, touch, hearing, sleep and body rhythms, and memory. Each unit consists of different lab activities that teach about the topic and help build concrete understanding of the topic.
The organization of each of the units is well designed, listing brain facts, the amount of time needed for the activity, the materials needed, and the method. The book has great pictures illustrating the steps taken to complete the activity and are a wonderful addition to each activity. I really like that at the end of each activity, there is a "Thinking Deeper" section and a "What's Going On?" section that addresses the key components that are being taught in the activity.
Overall, I found this book to be a wonderful resource for anyone that wants to teach children about the inner workings of the human brain. The activities are engaging and thought provoking, but are also fun, ensuring little scientists will will have a good time learning about the human brain!

Inspiring children to explore science through fun, hands on activities helps create future scientists. It had great activities but could use simpler explanations and comparisons to help convey the lesson behind the concept.

This book has an brain related activity for each week of the year. These activities are probably best suited for children 8 years older or more (I don't think my 5 year old has the interest or attention span for most of the activities). Some of the activities are duds (I thought most of the modelling activities sounded boring) and others seem too obvious for placement in a book (there is a memory game which I imagine many parents interested in this book would know about already). On the other hand there are some rather interesting ones such as the ones testing the senses and memory.

All in all a good book, but nothing mind blowing

Lots of ideas - 52 of them - one for each week of the year. The title offers "52 Mind-Blowing Experiments, Models, and Activities to Explore Neuroscience" and has been well-received by science-loving children.
