Description

The story’s protagonist has “an overactive mind muddling through waves of brilliance and self-doubt” much like Gaines himself.

The novel follows the unique life of the last living member of the legendary Hammond Family: John Hammond. Readers are invited to embark on a fascinating journey through the tangled cobwebs of his 100-year-old mind and won’t forget the believable cast of characters they’ll meet along the way.

At the end of 1999, the world was anxiously anticipating a new century while John was reluctantly celebrating a childhood goal – to live 100 years. The Hammond family was widely known as eccentrics, who had stormed the gates of insanity, each motored by a brain that would not slow down. John had the family gift of creating unique and powerful stories while pondering every word and meaning. He was also cursed with the intense need for fame, which sadly never happened.

John begins fading into vivid and strangely real dreams where he is suddenly the young and strong man of his youth, and the past seems so very real. When Shelly Kingston is hired to put together a birthday documentary about John’s life, she becomes intrigued by the old man’s stories and his unpublished, unfinished writings. And then the dreams continue to unfold...
