Description

A popular senator hides a dark secret in Tim Green's electrifying new thriller featuring Casey Jordan from The Letter of the Law.

When an illegal Mexican immigrant is shot in the head on a ranch outside Dallas, it makes the news because the shooter is Senator Tucker Dean. At fi rst it looks like a hunting accident, and the charismatic young senator spins the disaster artfully with a tearful press conference. But then the victim's wife comes forward to tell another tale. She claims the senator's wife was regularly visiting the victim and that the shooting was calculated revenge. And when the INS takes the victim's daughter away and tries to deport the widow, it looks like a cover-up of epic proportions. Hoping to help her, young attorney Casey Jordan approaches the D.A.'s offi ce with information, only to discover no prosecutor will take the case; the senator is too powerful. Undeterred, Casey decides to unearth the truth by suing him in civil court, bringing a wrongful death suit on behalf of his wife. But taking on a popular politician who believes he's above the law is like going up against the devil; one who will stop at nothing to get his way.

This new thriller marks the return of female protagonist Casey Jordan, who last appeared in Green's Letter of the Law (GCP, 2000), which has over 300,000 combined copies in print. Tim Green's previous thriller, American Outrage (0-446-57743-X/ 978-0-446-57743-4), was published in GCP hardcover in 4/07. It has 47,000 copies in print. Green's novels have consistently hit the New York Times extended bestseller list: Kingdom Come (Warner, 4/06) has over 300,000 in combined print; Exact Revenge (Warner, 5/05) has over 470,000 in combined print; and The First 48 (Warner, 2/04) has over 105,000 in combined print. There will be a teaser chapter for ABOVE THE LAW in the mass market edition of American Outrage which pubs in January 2009. Green, a practicing lawyer and former NFL player, has been a commentator for NPR, Good Morning America, Fox Sports, and Court TV, as well as one of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People.
