The 12 Brides of Summer Novella Collection 3 is the first collection that I have read in this series. I completely enjoyed all three nevellas in this collection. Each story was a fun yet light read but embraced the characters and their commitment to God. I reallly enjoyed how each autnor was able to develop the characters so that one could relate to how they felt, loved, and lived their faith.
The Dog Days of Summer Bride by Margaret Brownley told the story of two misunderstood people brought together by Dyna-Mo a precocious cow dog. Miralee Davis and Jed Colbert mist learn to trust one another as the herding dog sets out to do his job.
The Dogwood Blossom Bride by Miralee Ferrell brings a lost cowboy and a playful young woman to a place where each must learn to follow a new path that God has set before them. Will they have enough faith?
Finally, In the Lumberjack's Bride by Pam Hillman, Lucy finds that the allure of the big city is fading fast in the light of the lumberjack. Is she ready?
I would definitely recommend this collection. I plan to look at the other novellas.

Three Delightful, Old West Christian Romances...

A great summer read, this book contains three different romances. The Dog Days of Summer by Margaret Brownley caught my attention by the absurdity of the situation and the humor of the author. Dogwood Blossom Bride by Miralee Ferrell grabbed my attention because of the reality of the characters and their situation, plus the writer's dry wit in use of comparison and also her use of Scriptural truth. Lastly, Pam Hillman in The Lumberjack's Bride held my attention by the danger of the lumber camps and the idea of an unprepared city girl trying to fit into a logger's world.

Margaret Brownley had me smiling as I read her novella, The Dog Days of Summer. She creates a dog who lives part-time with the village blacksmith, and part-time with the town's piano teacher. Neither has an inkling where the dog goes during his time away from him/her, until one day the dog makes a life-changing discovery... Just a cute, fanciful story!

Miralee Ferrell drew me in right away with her characters that are quite headstrong, unconventional, and believable. I fell in love with the niece who is so naughty but appealing. I love the way Miralee deftly makes her point..."He was simply unappealing like a bowl of day-old bread soaked in milk when she hungered for steak." (Ugh!! got it!!)
Best of all, though, is her inclusion of faith in obvious statements without being overdone. " ...our emotions aren't a good test of whether God is at work in our lives or not--only the Bible and prayer could show us the truth."

Pam Hillman introduces a young lady from Chicago who is annoyed to be in the logging camp. While this seems to be your typical storyline, Pam creates a twist in the story that is both believable and heartwarming. I couldn't help but want to see how this city girl was going to fit into a the rough, uncultured, logger's world.

I spent an enjoyable couple of hours with these characters from the late 1880's, and if you like light, historical romance, you will want to as well.

I received this ebook from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this collection of stories! The first story, "The Dog Days of Summer Bride" has a dog as one of the main characters, so you know it has to be good! Also the female leads name is Marilee, similar the next authors, (one of my favorites) name of Miralee! Story two is "The Dogwood Blossom Bride" is a great story and great characters! Story three "The Lumberjack's Bride" is another great story! Makes me want to read the rest of the collection!

This delightful collection of three little romances is set in the 1880's all across America.

The first one by Margaret Brownley was quite funny, and my favorite of the set. Her humorous story has two people who are opposites--a dainty music teacher and a burly blacksmith--brought together by a dog they both think is their own. It kept me smiling all the way through! Love how she interjects humor into every situation, even the names like the town called Bee Flat, Kansas.

Miralee Ferrell's tale set in Washington State was nicely crafted, and brings together another unlikely pair, introduced in an unusual way also, as the tomboyish young lady falls out of a tree into the arms of a cowboy. Enjoyed seeing her change from reckless and rebellious, to careful and compassionate, as she helped her neighbors. The theme of letting go and trusting God added a lot of depth to this tale.

Pam Hillman's story set in the piney woods of Mississippi was fun with a brawny lumberjack falling for a young woman freshly arrived from Chicago. I felt for her as she learned to cook for the first time in a lumber camp on a woodstove for a hundred hungry men. Loved the descriptions of the logging and the competition. Living near a former lumber mill town, I've watched similar activities, and it's amazing to see them scramble up very tall poles, and crosscut huge logs--those guys were strong! Wished this one had been a bit longer.
Recommend for historical romance fiction fans looking for a fun, light read. 4.5 stars (Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the book provided in exchange for my honest and original review.)

"The 12 Brides of Summer" from Barbour Publishing's Shiloh Run Press Studios is still going strong with their third ebook of the novella collection series. This third collection have three wonderful and adorable (can't find another word) stories, all set in the 1880s of America.

The Dog Days of Summer by Margaret Brownley was just plain hilarious. This is one story that makes you contemplate on getting a dog to play matchmaker. You never know - that dog might just be the one to help you find love, along with some mischief on the way.

The Dogwood Blossom Bride by Miralee Ferrell also have its funny moments with a not so ladylike lady falling off a tree into the arms of a handsome carpenter, who just so happens strongly opposes the antics of such unladylike behavior. What will happen? The little girl, Laura was also a cute addition to bring the stuffy carpenter (her uncle Will) and the tomboy lady, Grace to each other.

Last but not least, The Lumberjack's Bride by Pam Hillman's start was something out of a dream sequence. I big good-looking lumberjack comes to your aid, but pushing you out of harms way. Will the city girl in you be able to give up a life in Chicago to be with a country lumberjack?

All three stories have elements of love creeping up unexpectedly and how it will push you to to find God's will.

12 Brides of Summer—Novella Collection #3*****
by Margaret Brownley, Miralee Ferrell and Pam Hillman

-The Dog Days of Summer Bride***** by Margaret Brownley Marilee Davis gives piano lessons in her home. She has taken in a stray dog and named him Mozart, Mo for short. Only one problem, he runs away every Friday and stays gone until Monday morning smelling terrible—like old fish. Blacksmith Jed Colbert is puzzled with his fishing partner and once faithful black and white cow dog Dynamite, Dyna for short. Suddenly about four months ago Dyna started running off every Monday and returning every Friday—smelling like perfume...lavender-rose. Because of his perfume-smelling dog everyone thinks he is a womanizer, causing a decline in business. Things start looking up when Dynamite digs up an old bag full of money—stolen money from years past. Whoever owns the dog will get a reward...but who is the owner, Jed or Marilee?

This is a fun short story with lots of charming characters, including a black and white cow dog. I like the name of the town, Bee-Flat, sounds kind of musical. I like the matchmaker in this story—a black and white cow dog. Lots of humorous situations, misunderstandings, joy, love and faith make this a fun story. One part that made me chuckle was when Jed tells Marilee she “smells like his dog”...uh-oh...that did not go over well at all.

-The Dogwood Blossom Bride***** by Miralee Ferrell Sparks fly when Gracie Addison, a tree-climbing tomboy and Will Montgomery meet under a tree—well, she ends up falling on him. Will's eight year old niece, Laura thinks Gracie is wonderful and wants to be just like her. Thus starts an up and down relationship that is anything but romantic. Can Gracie finally give up her tomboy ways and can Will get past the hurts of the past? I can understand Will wanting to keep his niece safe, but he is a bit overprotective of her. I wasn't sure which direction Will was going to go from one moment to the next regarding Gracie. Poor Laura, all she wanted to do was to be a little girl and have some fun. Then there is Gracie, it was clear she wasn't ready to settle down until the right person came along. Gracie, Will and Laura all had gone through grief in the past, adjusting to a new way of life with hopes and dreams, struggles, guilt, misunderstandings and seeking God for the path they should take—making this a cute, fun, heartwarming story.

-The Lumberjack's Bride***** by Pam Hillman Lucy Denson has her hands full helping cook for a logging crew—especially since she can't cook! She didn't want to move from Chicago but had little choice when her father moved her family to Mississippi. Will she grow to love it or return to Chicago? Eli Everett is one of the lumberjacks and doesn't think he can compare with the life-style Lucy is used to. Can he change her mind about staying in Mississippi? Eli's mother is so cute, I loved the way even though she couldn't physically help with the cooking she was able to teach Lucy how to cook. There are some funny antics in the story that had me chuckling. Some tense moments when a tree falls and Lucy is right in its path and later when Eli gets hurt. The secondary characters add much to the story, along with some match-making, strong faith, joy and love—making this a fun story to read. I never read lumberjack stories until recently and I have found I really like them.

This is a delightful set of stories that can be read in one setting, or can be spread out to be enjoyed more. Each story captures the essence of summer and makes you wish you were there to be a part of the story. I love the interactions between the characters and how they really make you feel like you are there. This is a great set of stores and I am looking forward to reading more from the 12 Brides series. I also liked how it gave you a chance to become familiar with three great authors.

Dog Days of Summer Bride by Margaret Brownley The Dogwood Blossom Bride by Miralee Ferrell The Lumberjack's Bride by Pam Hillman Wow! This collection is fabulous. The whole book is only about 150 pages and it took me no time to read it. I loved all 3 collections and cannot just pick a favorite. Recommend. 5 stars

Three stories with touches of humor and filed with faith.

Dog Days of Summer finds Marilee Davis, the music teacher, and Jed Colbert, the blacksmith sharing a dog even though they've never met. Marilee calls the dog Mozart, and wonders where he is always disappearing to every weekend. Jed raised Dynamite from a puppy, but he's too busy to notice that he's never around during the week. When they find out about their unknowingly sharing the dog, it leads to plenty of humorous adventures, and funny situations, with great interaction. It ended up being my favorite of the collection.

Grace Addison is a tomboy who climbs trees and rides astride, also lending a hand when she can with her neighbors, even befriending 8 year old Laura. Will Montgomery blames himself for Laura's mother's death, and he is not a fan of Laura's wanting to be just like Grace. But with some humor and understanding they may be able to come to an agreement!

Lucy and her father have just moved to a lumber camp from the city of Chicago. Eli Everett saves Lucy from a falling tree. He shows Lucy the beauty of nature, but wonders if he is good enough for a girl like her. Will love win the day?

Overall, a terrific collection of wonderful stories. I enjoyed the variety of the settings, and how all of the wonderful stories had great side characters who gave great advice about faith and family. Great read!

It's almost Christmas, but I am reading about summer brides. Kind of ironic, but, I like the thought of warmer days.

Margaret Brownley, Miralee Ferrell, and Pam Hillman have teamed together to bring this third collection to those of us who need a warm thought on a cold winter day.

Margaret Brownley's Dog Days of Summer centers around Marilee and Jed and the ownership of one dog who claims them both.

Miralee Ferrell's The Dogwood Blossom reminded me of the old movie, "Support Your Local Sheriff." Grace Addison is seen early in this novella up a tree.

Pam Hillman's The Lumberjack's Bride takes us to a lumber camp in Mississippi.

Each story has a winsomeness that draws the reader in and doesn't let go. They are easy reads for that rainy afternoon where the reader wants to cuddle up with a book, a cup of tea, and a blanket, and dream of warmer days.

I've read writings by these authors before and they never disappoint me. Characters are personable, situations are believable, and settings are indescribable.

Five Stars, Two Thumbs Up, and a dog to claim you as its human.

My thanks to Barbour Publishing for allowing me to read and review this book.

I really love these Christian historical short stories. The 12 brides of summer are divided into 4 collections, with each 3 stories at about 50 pages each and with each collection costing a mere $2.99, it works out to $1 a story. Highly worth it! I think the length was just right to know the characters and their romance, without dragging on with too many details or requiring too much time to read them. The historical details, time period mannerisms/customs and richly described characters really made this series enjoyable! I do recommend!
