It was so interesting to see how similar yet different animals are in Europe. The photos made me want to learn more, and there was a quick introduction to each animal described. This would be such a great classroom discussion book.

One of a set of seven – each continent gets their own volume, of course – this skims across Europe, touching on a few of the larger, more photogenic and notable critters. You learn by example of what a biome is, as we see forests, then mountains, then wetland and rivers, before touching on snakes for a spread, and some of the species that live closer to humans in cities. And that's about it, really – there is no harm in a primary school having this, but it is on the slight side, and for all the sidebars of added information and factoids here and there, isn't quite as educational as it might have been. Three and a half stars.
