An exciting collection of stories featuring the brave men and women of the greatest generation! Progressing from 1940's London, until the end of the war in 1945, the stories take place in England, the U.S. home front, military bases, and Scandinavian Europe. Four of the stories are connected by a family thread, which made an interesting series; the others are separate, but flow well along the timeline of the war.

I thoroughly enjoyed every one of these stories! These were not fluffy romances, but tender and heartfelt, with some sigh-worthy moments nonetheless. The characters had a lot of depth, like you'd find in a full length novel. They seemed to cover the many real-life heroes of the time, from soldiers, sailors, pilots, journalists, nurses, women in the service and those working at home, as well as the underground resistance in Europe; the many different people who courageously risked their lives to help others. Unique features of the war were adeptly included, from war bonds, rationing, victory gardens, and scrap collections at home, to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, hiding Jewish refugees, dangerous missions, separation from loved ones, and many examples of personal sacrifice overseas. Wrestling with issues of faith, like how a good God could allow evil to exist, trusting in God's sovereignty, and having the courage to love in times of uncertainty, made the stories feel real on a deep level. The Scripture and quotes included added a lot of meaning and inspiration to the character's struggles, especially in dealing with fear, grief and loss.

Highly recommend this well-written, quality collection of novellas to anyone who enjoys Christian historical romance fiction, especially during the time of war. Fans of Sarah Sundin, Liz Tolsma and Cara Putman's WW2 fiction will like this book!

This is an absolutely beautiful collection of love stories set against the backdrop of one of the most trying times in history. Each of the nine stories are very well written with insight and knowledge of the time period. The authors take the reader back in time with vivid descriptions of time, place, and extenuating circumstances. During these dark times, it is love, hope, and faith that provide these characters with the strength and determination to carry on. I highly recommend this collection for any fan of historical romance!

I really liked this book! I love hearing about World War II in almost any form. This did not disappoint. I especially liked the stories that connected. I wanted to know more about the family and the outcome of the war for them. Other than that, I was entranced by the book!

Yet another inspiring love collection that I fell in love with. I think that out of all collections that I have read this year this one might just have been the sweeter tasting. It was beautifully written and so alluring to me as a reader. I cuddled up with this book on a chilly day in Autumn and immediately I was inner warmed by the romance of this collection.

I simply cannot get enough out of this publisher nor out of this collection. In fact both the publisher and such collections as they have become my favorite. If you have yet to read from the publisher or from any of the collections please do so now. It is a must!

Nine romance novellas in one book all taking place in the 1940’s. If you enjoy reading good quick reads that take place around war, you will love this book.

Starting from 1940's London, until the end of the war in 1945, the stories take place between England, the U.S. home front, military bases, and Scandinavian Europe. Four of the stories are connected by a family thread, which was interesting but the others are separate stand alone stories, but flow well along the timeline of the war. The storylines were intriguing and engaging, a very good read.

Covering the many real-life heroes of the time, from soldiers, sailors, pilots, nurses, women in the service and those working at home, as well as the underground resistance in Europe; the many different people who courageously risked their lives to help others. Unique features of the war were well used to add to the storylines, from the selling of war bonds, food shortages and rationing, planting victory gardens, to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, hiding Jewish refugees, dangerous missions, separation from loved ones, and many examples of personal sacrifice. I loved how the use of Scripture and quotes added meaning to the characters' struggles and growth especially in dealing with fear, grief and loss.

Of Immeasurable Worth - by Joan Croston - Ann is living in London and working at her grandfathers book shop, but knows that war is coming. She is seeking love when Peter makes his way into her heart.

A Flower Amidst the Ashes - by DiAnn Mills - Margaret has no intention of finding love till this war is over when the attractive Andrew comes into the picture.

To Sing Another Day - by Kim Vogel Sawyer - Helen is just trying to get by, taking care of her siblings and surviving is getting to be more than she can handle alone when Henry unexpectedly comes into her life.

A Living Doll - by Cathy Marie - Rosemary never planned to find love again when she starts helping Paul.

Filled With Joy - by Kelly Eileen Hake - This novella is a continuation of A Living Doll. We met Valerie in that novella. She has already lost her fiancé to the war when her step dad brings an injured soldier into their home, Roy.

A Thread of Trust - by Sally Laity - This is a continuation of A Living Doll and Filled With Joy. We met Annelise in both. She has been helping her brother Axel in his import/export business and his more important secret missions when Axel comes up with a spur of the moment fiancé for her, Erik Nielsen.

A Stitch of Faith - by Dianna Crawford - Also a continuation of A Living Doll, Filled With Joy and A Thread of Trust. Even though they can all be read as a stand alone. It's Axel's turn when he meets Sorena , while trying to save a Jewish boy and his smart neighbor.

Letters From Home - by Lynette Sowell - Trudy is a small town girl with a heart for travel. She loves taking pictures, so when she sees a handsome stranger, Bradley she can’t help but snap his picture.

A Light in the Night - by Janelle Burnham Schneider - Elisabeth, a nurse during the war, has had her fair share of loss she is not interested in a relationship and neither is Ian, a pilot for the Canadian Air Force.

These nine novellas all take place during World War II. Four of them are a series in and of themselves where four of the romances also help get Jewish children out of Nazi controlled Europe. All four of these novels covered members of one family who worked in various stages of helping the children get out, but in the meantime, romance blooms in the harshest of environments.

Other novels have women taking care of siblings because they are orphaned, another smuggles a Gutenburg Bible to the US to keep it out of Nazi hands, one is a nurse in a remote station, another works at home taking pictures for magazines, and yet one more serves in the RAAF.

I think it is harder to write a shorter novel and make it a cohesive story with fully developed characters and plot lines. These nine ladies do this with aplomb and class. There are humor to be enjoyed, grief to be shared, letters to be written, and weddings to be planned.

This book will fill several afternoons with some sentimental reading--five stars, two thumbs up, and a sentimental journey home.

My thanks to Barbour Books for allowing me to read and review this book.

Tales of love set during WWII.

Some of the stories are stand alone, and some read like a series, like four of the stories that follow rag dolls and their journeys. It all begins when Paul Kincaid asks Rosemary to make him some dolls, and he uses them to carry valuables to help the Jewish children. And throughout the war, they bring people together, while bringing hope to the children.

There are stories of others who bravely risk their lives for others, following their faith, and trusting God for their safety. In Of Immeasurable Worth Paul Austin is dedicated to saving the treasures of Europe, he befriends a book shop owner and his daughter, taking a rare Bible to America.

A variety of stories, spanning both sides of the Atlantic, full of love, hope, and courage. I loved all of the stories, but didn't want to spoil them for you, thus the brief review :) An inspiring read.

I absolutely adored this collection. All the stories in the middle of the book (involving the dolls) I have read before in a previous collection called "Stuff of Love'. It was nice to revist them again.

Her friend, Beryl, has already lost her husband to the war.

Sing Another Day by Kim Vogel Sawyer: New York City, September, 1941, Helen Wolfe is trying to raise her younger siblings after her parents are killed in an accident and Bernie O'Day needs help in his shop and hires her brother, Henry. Helen was planning to train for a career as a singer but must work to support her family instead.

A Light in the Night by Janelle Burnham Schneider: Goose Bay, Labrador, Elisabeth is a nurse who can't dance and Ian MacDonald gets her to sing with him at the weekly "social evening" and a romance develops until she tells him that she won't give her heart to him and risk losing him during this awful war.

I absolutely loved these novellas. I love reading about World War II as I lost an uncle in the war. As I read the stories, I was reminded of many things my grandmother had shared with me about life in that time period. Each story develops around the possibility of events that could have actually taken place and romances happened despite some of the character's best efforts to prevent them. Many of the men and women may have feared loving someone as they might easily lose them to the war. Some of the stories are connected and include some of the same characters but not all of the novellas connect to the others in the collection. I rated this collection 5 stars as it is truly wonderful. I think readers will love it also.
