Description
Grades 2 to 4+, part of a 12-title series.
A huge, meat-eating hunter, the Allosaurus could weigh as much as 4 tons! Scientists know a lot about this dinosaur because it left many fossils. In this educational volume presented by Scientific American, readers find out about how these giant carnivores looked, what they ate, where they lived, and so much more. Fun fact boxes add to the science information, and full-color images of what these dinosaurs may have looked like as well as their fossils complement the main content. The subject matter helps readers build knowledge, a key part of the science of reading.

As a basic introduction to Allosaurus, this book has the general information correct, unfortunately the artwork leaves a lot to be desired: each page has a very different style and representation of allosaurus.
Almost all of the images are from shutterstock and most of them look AI-generated. Some of them are even incorrect, for example one allosaurus is shown with 4 toes instead of 3!
It feels like very little effort has gone into this book. For a child who is interested in dinosaurs, this would be a huge disappointment.

Great reader for the classroom. Eye catching, engaging and informative. The kids will love the did you know boxes. A pronunciation section would be helpful given the target of the book. Adding comprehension questions at the back would make this book more useful for the classroom. The images are a bit too AI looking which is a shame.

We all love dinosaurs! Books about dinosaurs are always a win with our house. This book is a perfect punt of information on the Allosaurus to keep my pre-schoolers interest, coupled with great drawings of the impressive beast!

My four year old really enjoyed having this read to him, he loves dinosaurs and although he's still figuring out the difference between all the carnivorous dinosaurs and refers to them all as t rex this was very informative on his level.
