Wow oh wow. What a great, gripping thriller. The main protagonist has Aspergers, and how well written is she!! Tense, thrilling with many twists and turns, I need to read the next instalment quickly. The tension never lets up, this is a real page turner.

This is a stupendous sequel to Subject 375 and it is a non stop thrill ride from beginning to end. The Asperger's Syndrome affected Maria gets to the bottom of who she is, and there is an immense amount of knowledge which shakes her to very core. She becomes acquainted with the deepest of betrayals as she learns who is responsible for putting her in the hands of the Project. What is touching is that she has a tightly knit group of friends who both help and support her in their different ways. It is not easy for Maria to make friends for obvious reasons. She has her friend Patricia from prison join her, along with the Governor, Balthus and she gets close to Chris, computer geek and hacker extraordinaire.

Maria has been discovered by the Project in her Spanish hideout, and she only just escapes. She eventually meets up with her friends but is still being hunted. Understanding that her only means of acquiring vital information, she bravely allows herself to be captured knowing that she is putting her life at risk. Taken to the Project's Hamburg location, she is drugged, and painfully tattooed by the malevolent Dr Carr with the words I am Basque. She learns that she is adopted and the only survivor of the Project's trials. She escapes aided by hacker Chris who has nicknamed her Google, thanks to her remarkable knowledge. Having got to the bottom of who Raven is, and with access to other information, she wants to ensure her family are safe in Madrid. There are plenty of twists, dead bodies and betrayal from the closest of quarters. There is an evil, ruthless and depraved hand behind Maria's experience of the Project as a young child. Family secrets harboured for many years surface.

This is a well constructed, compelling and fast paced thriller. Nothing is as it seem and the suspense is kept up throughout. Nikki Owen has created a wonderful and unforgettable central character in Maria whose struggles to find out who she is captures the imagination and the emotions. This is a story readers will be unable to put down although I do recommend that you read Subject 375 first. Fantastic Read. Thanks to Harlequin for an ARC via netgalley.

This is the second book in the Project Trilogy.. Thanks to Harlequin for an ARC

Plastic surgeon Dr Maria Martinez has Asperger’s, she doesn't know who to trust and after her release from prison she is on the run. The book starts with her waking up, tied up in a dark room. it then switches between present day and the hours leading up to her imprisonment. It includes lots of flashbacks that give us an insight into her earlier life.

This is brilliantly written with a very unusual main character . It is very tense and has lots of unexpected twists and turns. I can't wait for the next instalment!

A very descriptive and intense read. From captive to being captured. This is in vivid detail by this logophile author without anything being unnecessary. Depth of portrayal gives this an excellent feel.
Maria is on the autism spectrum having Asperger’s syndrome but has been raised by “The Project” a part of MI5 that they now wish to cease all knowledge of and anyone who knows anything about her. She is of high intellect (She is now a Dr and an IT expert) and has the precision of a robot:” He has now left the room for 3 minutes and 37 seconds”. The chapters alternate pretty much with the time she is captive with the time up to her capture. She struggles with the concept of friendships and some saying such as “my leg is killing me” “Killing me? How can your leg be killing you?” An unusual and interesting book. Is Maria imagining all of this? Is the project helping her or against her? The twist at the end explains, and I won’t spoil it, but leaves you with a smile!

This is a roller coaster of a book that had me sat on the edge of my seat. Nikki Owen really knows how to ramp up the tension.
I hadn't read the first in the series but that didn't matter at all as I got to know everything I needed to know in this book, Dr Maria Martinez wakes up to find herself restrained and confined in a very dark place with no recollection of how she got there. Aspergers sufferer Maria is disorientated and cannot understand where her friends are. We find out the details as the book has two timelines running, 'The present day' and 'before confinement' which explains why she is here being held captive. She finds out why and how she ended up being in the hands of the project and as she tries to keep her family safe it seems the project isn't far behind her. I loved the way the story unfolded and I had an insight of what Maria's world looked like. I would like to say thank you to Netgalley for my copy of the book for an honest review.

A very enjoyable read with great characters. Maria was my favourite character. I loved how she wouldn't stop until she got the truth. Can't wait for next part. 4*. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book from netgalley.
