Description

HOW WOULD YOUR LIFE CHANGE IF YOU WENT ON A WILD, FAMILY ADVENTURE?

Bluewater Walkabout: Into Africa, Finding Healing Through Travel is an uplifting and humorous memoir about Tina's travels in and around Africa with her husband and 4 teenagers. Things go horribly wrong much of the time. She tries to laugh but feels flabbergasted much of the time.

During her wild adventures on safari, in the desert, and across the pond, long modes of travel offer time to reflect. The dark power of the hidden secrets of Tina's past pervade her health. But as she journeys into developing nations, she begins to witness the definition of true suffering.

In time, her emotional pain from rape, sexual assault, and the loss of a child seem banal in comparison. She quickly reassesses her personal reality until the awakening pulls her out of the darkness and back into the light.

Disaster strikes when Tina least expect it. The kids disappear for an entire day while on the ocean, great white sharks threaten the kids' safety, Tina loses valuables, and somebody endures a knife attack – a thumb is sacrificed.

Bluewater Walkabout encourages other victims of their past to heal by seeking adventurous travel. Pretend you can put down your devices and explore with your family on a wild adventure.

And just go!

Advance Praise

Bluewater Walkabout: Into Africa is a memoir about a much-anticipated sailing adventure that Tina and her family embark upon. But when her sons bring along two friends who upset the family balance, rogue waves and great white sharks threaten the family’s safety. Tina begins to develop a mysterious health problem, and the perils of life at sea become very real.

The book begins with an adventurous safari through Africa where dodging wild animals become a regular dual, during which Tina reflects on the challenges that a life lived differently can bring.

This story is candid, moving, heartfelt and beautifully written. What sets it aside from other sailing memoirs is that it is about so much more than the journey. Tina writes about topics such as mental illness, the loss of a child, and the challenges of motherhood in such a way that they are naturally woven into the narrative and add a layer of complexity and strength to the story that makes it universal and enjoyable to those who have been to sea and those who haven’t.
