HUMANS MAY NOT ENDURE A FUTURE CATACLYSMIC EVENT; HOWEVER, DON’T UNDERESTIMATE THE SURVIVAL SKILLS
OF BUGS…🪳🐛 🦟🕷️🐜🪲🐞 …eek!

Let youngsters imaginations run wild as they color and learn about insects, arachnids and crustaceans that their own backyards may be harboring as they explore insect habitats and create bug identification cards, as well as lovely pictures in “Bug Book for Kids—Coloring Fun and Awesome Facts,” the interactive learning resource developed by school teacher Katie Henries-Meisner that’s sure to appeal to children with young explorer interests at heart.

With descriptions and outlined illustrations (to fill-in-the-blanks with color) of 25 common insects that are commonly found in N. American neighborhoods, “Bug Book” is both educational, informative, and instructional for children making the natural sciences learning process easier and more enjoyable.

Some of the cool bug facts that I found intriguing (often disturbing) and think that young learners will find ‘totally awesome’ include the following:

- ANTS 🐜 can carry 20x their own weight. This is equivalent to a human carrying an automobile. 🚗

- BEETLES 🪲 are the dinosaurs of the bug kingdom and have inhabited Earth for at least 230 million years.

- ROACHES 🪳 are almost unkillable because they can endure subfreezing temperatures; hold their breath 30 minutes under water; and can live for a month without food.

My favorite aspects of “Bug Book” are the weird and wonderous facts about the insects presented in this educational coloring book. Children can learn about these tiny creatures who inhabit the world along with side mankind, and some may grow to be professional entomologists as a result.

JoyReaderGirl1 graciously thanks NetGalley, Author Katie Henries-Meisner, Illustrator and Artist Andre Sibayan, and Publisher Z Kids, an imprint of Zeitgeist, a division of Penguin Random House LLC, New York, for this advanced readers copy (ARC) for review.

This is a fun and informational coloring book that would be a great gift for animal loving kids. Each bug comes with its own card page with a coloring picture and name, and then includes a fun fact and then a full coloring page, The picture on the name card is just the animal taken out of the full coloring page, but I suppose there's only so much you can do to make bugs to color.
There are 25 bugs in a good variety, and the facts are fun and interesting. At the very end there are smaller versions of the name cards and why I don't really see the purpose/use of them, kids who want to color everything in sight will probably appreciate some bonus pages to illustrate even more.

This is a cute little informative book on arthropods, with focus on insects (but also including things like spiders, ticks, and pillbugs). I really like this as a coloring book, as many times "bugs" are seen as gross or pests, when in reality they live with us during our daily lives and many are helpful to us. I love insects, and I think as a child I'd have appreciated finding a coloring book that didn't only focus on "cute" things for me - but rather, on things people would find "displeasing" with informative information to learn.

As with the bird coloring book, my biggest complain is the recycling of the images, where I feel more variety would have been nicer to color. However, I think this would be a fun coloring book for any child, and could help even ones who don't like all sorts of creepy crawlies to see them in another light.

Thank you to the author, Netgalley, and Zeitgeist for providing this copy for free in exchange for an honest review.

Love this book! Excellent for kids who are into bugs. The fun facts about each insect will excite everyone and could lead to deeper discussion if desired. The pictures are simple and would be very fun to color.

Loved everything about this and even more so that the bugs and insects are anatomically correct. Definitely want a physical copy for my self and my baby girl

The illustrations are realistic, with a lot of space for the children to color and have fun while learning more about the bugs. Great book for kids who like bugs.
Thank you NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC.

I thought that this was a lovely book and I loved the images used.

The same with the other book on Dinosaurs in this series, each image was used twice and I do think that there could have been more variety or two separate images not the same ones

The book was still a great little read with fun facts for each insect species featured and you can learn as well as colour in as you go – what is not to enjoy

It is 4 stars from me for this one!

Do I like bugs? HECK YES I DO! (*within reason, of course)

This surprisingly informative and interactive book of bugs will be a great addition to any lesson plans coordinating with nature. It would be fun to have a focus on the anatomy of bugs and use the coloring pages of this to name a body part (wing, abdomen, etc) and have the kiddo color it in....or go over the body parts together with the same color for each part as a way to learn them! (I have so many ideas, clearly!)

I would say that the coloring pages are pretty elementary, but there are some larger and more complex words thrown in that would be suited for an older audience- it's kind of off balance in my opinion, the coloring pages/illustrations compared the the education level needed to fully comprehend the facts presented. I liked that while there was a fact presented about each bug, it was usually a pretty cool one OR it was followed up by something relatable (ie: an ant can carry more than 20x its own weight.....if a kid were that strong, they'd be able to carry a car!)---so, while learning that an ant is a BEAST and can move things that are larger than it, we are then given EXACTLY HOW much 20x may relate to US. (I don't know about you, but I wouldn't have been able to approximate a 20x scale).

Overall a good read, would recommend that the illustrations match up better with the education level needed to understand some of the book but it is still interactive and a wonderful educational book.
NOW, LETS COLOR!

I had already read a coloring book by this author so I bought I’d take a chance with this one. In a way, you can see a lot of improvement. There aren’t that many grammar errors (though a few still snuck in there) and the descriptions were a bit more detailed. Children who love bugs would find joy here.

Bug Book for Kids by Katie Henries-Meisner is an amazing activity book for children who can't get enough of bugs. Alongside educational texts written at an appropriate level, the book includes many pages of coloring activities. According to the description, "Children will have fun coloring the bugs, learning about them (including the difference between bugs and insects), and becoming backyard bug experts."

Overall, Bug Book for Kids is the perfect gift for the future entomologist or bug-lover in your life. One highlight of this book is the amount of detail and research that went into this book. Another highlight of this book is how much thought and time went into creating each of the coloring activities. This book is well-thought-out and will definitely satisfy a child wanting to learn more about bugs. If you're intrigued by the description, I highly recommend this book, which is available now!

Pros: One of my favorite three year olds is OBSESSED with bugs. She is also very into coloring, so I think she'd love to color this book about bugs. I love that there are fun facts included so children (with the help of an older reader if necessary) can learn more about the creatures they are coloring. I can see preschool and young elementary school classes using these pages as coloring sheets when learning about insects.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Thank you to NetGalley and Zeitgeist, Z Kids for the opportunity to read this book!

This is a cute little coloring book, and something my toddlers would enjoy. I’d personally prefer that there be a little more information about the bugs, my kids are insatiable when it comes to information like that. The coloring pictures are bold and simple, which is great for toddlers and preschoolers. My kids would really enjoy this book.0

My 5 year old is obsessed with learning about bugs and wants to be a "nature scientist" when she grows up. Of course she loved this coloring book and had so much fun coloring her old favorites and learning about new bugs!

It was a fun little book, and pretty cool; even if it wasn’t quite what I was expecting. Fun to color, and contained lots of interesting facts to entertain the reader.
