Amigurumi for Beginners
Learn to Crochet Creative Figures with 20 Easy Patterns

by Julia Simpson

I received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

With 20 patterns - it’s an amount that is not overwhelming while also getting a sufficient quantity that it feels like the book is a good value and just right the right size.

The instructions and diagrams are clear and easy to understand. The pictures of finished products are bright and colorful. So many cute options to make as gifts or to keep for yourself.

While so much is digital these days crochet or knitting pattern books are something I really prefer to have a paper copy of while working the pattern - it just feels easier to keep track.

If you’re looking for some patterns to try out creating some adorable amigurumi this is a great choice.

Well-organized and easy to read, this book is a good guide for both beginners and vets. The difficulty varies but there is something for everyone and plenty of room for creativity to make each pattern your own. The patterns are also explained and detailed so that those who may find it harder to learn by book can learn too.

Of course, the book also has all the usuals such as explaining the tools, helpful tips, etc.

Amigurumi for Beginners
4 Stars

I enjoy doing small projects like this, and love animals. So, this book is an awesome fit. Incomplete projects make me feel like a failure. I made a kitty, and it took a week. I wasn't getting bored. Some designs are basic, but leave room for individual creativity. I created a top-hat and monocle to jazz him up.

The patterns are easy to follow. Abbreviations were explained. I appreciate the section that covered assembly of our creature. I loved the adorable illustrations. Having links to video would have been helpful in a few areas. I found the bright orange cover painful on my eyes, and am grateful the illustrations inside are less offensive.

Thank you, NetGalley and Castillo Media, for an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book is, indeed, a good one for beginners in amigurumi. I found it to be well organized and informative with good information on crochet hooks, yarns, how-to's, stuffing options, how to read a pattern, terminology, and even how to care for your finished projects.
The amigurumi projects are all cute and excellent for beginners to tackle. The author has nicely arranged them with the easiest first and those that follow increasing in difficulty.
The only thing that would make this book even better would be links to video's for the basic stitches and the magic ring. It is very difficult for beginners to try to learn the magic ring from illustrations. I have yet to see any illustrations that can adequately teach it.
I would recommend this book for amigurumi beginners and will purchase a copy for my library.

Cover: Nice, but the orange background is a nope for me.

I don’t check craft books that often, but this one about Amigurumi caught my eye right away. The crochet + noob combo fits me to a T—do I enjoy crocheting enough to take it up as a new hobby? Yes. Do I know anything about it? No. So, hey 😀

Amigurumi for Beginners is split into two sections. The first one covers the most technical aspects, such as hooks, yarns, the difference between UK and US measurements, and so on. Drawings show how to do some basic stitches with a written explanation as well. So far, I mastered everything but the magic circle.

The second section offers patterns to create Amigurumi; you can choose between the easiest ones, like the octopus, the seal, the bee, and the snake, or try your hand at something a little more complex, like the fox. All the patterns are well-detailed, Simpson’s instructions simple to follow.

All things considered, this book is a great way to kick off your journey in the crocheting world.

5 stars on GR.

*Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.*

This book is a great collection of amigurumi animals to help someone learn to crochet. The patterns are easy to read, well formatted, and it's clear before you even start what stitches are included in each pattern. There's a great section at the start of the book of stitch and joinery explanations with easy-to-follow diagrams.
My favourite patterns would be the koala and the frog. I can't wait to give them a try!

A gorgeous book full of inspiration for your hooks. Perfect for beginners and old hands alike. The author really goes into details with the stitches, assembling each project and some handy tips and tricks too. You can't go wrong when it is explained so well.
Thanks to Netgalley and the author and publisher for a temporary copy in exchange for an honest review

Easy crochet patterns using the basic stitches to create plushie creatures. As a crocheter of many years these are easy to work up and this book is catered towards someone new to amigurumi. The beginning section on how to assemble the various pieces into the final animal is very helpful with all the pictures. Only negative is a personal preference - some of the animals could be a bit cuter. It’s a good book for someone to enter the amigurumi space but know there are super cute patterns out there if you keep crocheting.

NOTE: I was provided a free digital copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.
