After reading Ledge I could not wait to read the sequel. I devoured Ledge so fast. Chasm picks up right where Ledge left off. The world-building is incredible. This is such a unique story and series. I have never read anything like this series. I first found out about this through Stacey McEwan's Tiktok. This book was such a roller coaster. I love that this book jumps straight into action and doesn't feel boring at all. I seriously can't wait to read book 3. Thank you netgalley for an arc.

Before I started reading this book, I read the end of Ledge again to remember what happened and it was a great idea!!! That ending is just….heartbreaking. Once I started Chasm, I couldn’t put it down. It had action, betrayal, and secrets exposed since page 1. I loved seeing all the characters again and their funny interactions with each other. I wish I could say more, but I won’t be able to without spoilers. Just know, if you love fantasy, slow burn romance, and action, PLEASE READ THIS SERIES!!!

A very solid sequel to an already excellent series debut that expanded the established world and the twists and turns kept me on my toes the whole time.

I enjoyed Chasm, This world that McEwan has created is amazing! I have to say I felt it slow in parts and I felt the plot could have been developed better, however the world building and the characters made the book for me.
Thank you Net Galley and the publisher Angry Robot for an e-Arc of the book.

🪓🗻 ARC REVIEW: Chasm 🗻🪓

⭐️ 4.3
🌶 2

Stacey McEwan has done it again!

Following on from Ledge's dramatic cliffhanger, Chasm follows Dawson's ongoing struggle for freedom and justice for both herself and everyone else condemned to the Ledge.

At its heart, Chasm explores the ongoing challenges and consequences of trauma. McEwan didn't shy away from the confronting emotions and thoughts that accompany this indirect journey to acceptance and healing. The pain our MCs experience could be brutally honest and quite visceral for the reader, thanks to the multiple POVs, which I appreciated. Nothing about Dawson's life has been easy, so why start now.

By her side, through it all, is a growing band of misfits that give the most dysfunctional yet heart-warming found family vibes. I especially love the 'bickering siblings' dynamic between Salem and Esra. Honestly, the snarky banter and shenanigans between these outcasts are hilarious and bring some much needed levity at times.

Though Terrsaw is a relatively small island kingdom, the story locations also increased in book 2. I think it's a credit to McEwan's world building skills that I wasn't bored by the confined geography. I especially love how the Mountain has an almost sentient presence in the story, always looming in the background, regardless of where the MCs go throughout Terrsaw.

I really loved how the magic system in this universe was more prominent in Chasm. The 2 contrasting magic types in this world are fascinating and create great sources of conflict. It was really interesting to see the mentor/mentee dynamic at play because of it. The physical toll of magic is also a fun yet intense curve ball.

Speaking of conflict: Be prepared for the final few chapters. You will be tense, on the edge of your seat and heartbroken. But they set the scene perfectly for the upcoming final book in the trilogy (which is going to be absolutely action-packed considering everything still to address).

Overall, I'm in love with this series and can't wait for book 3 to release in 2024 (fingers crossed for another ARC 🤞)!

P.S. Stacey, please stop playing with my heart like this! Undo it! 😭

Thank you to Stacy McEwan and Angry Robot for this arc.

This was a very solid follow up to Ledge and I enjoyed it a lot! I liked that it followed immediately after the events in Ledge and so I felt like we jumped straight in which was good for pacing. A few side characters started getting on my nerves a bit, but I’m sure they were that way for comedic relief and it did help, but sometimes it was a bit much. I wanted a little more romance, but that took a more of a backseat in this one.

I’m eager to read the next installment to see what happens!

Firstly, I’d like to thank NetGalley, the publishing team and Stacey for allowing me to read an early release arc of this book.

I requested this book on a whim. I really enjoyed the first book in the series ‘Ledge’ but wasn’t happy with how it ended. A fact which caused me to be skeptical to whether I wanted to read this book or not. So, going into this book I wasn’t necessarily excited to dive back into this world. I was a big fan of Ryons character and his apparent death at the end of Ledge sent me on a bit of a WTF tangent. But, knowing fantasy, there’s always a possibility of people returning from the dead or not actually being dead to begin with. So I had to find out.

I’m currently half way through Chasm and it just isn’t exciting me as much as the first did. I feel like I could enjoy it more but I’m still so hung up on the ending to Ledge that I’m in a slump for this series. Meaning I may come back to this and reread in the future but currently I am forcing myself to try and get through this book and not let it land in my DNF pile. For me, there’s just a lot going on that isn’t necessary for the story. I feel like it’s being very stretched out when it doesn’t need to be. A lot of pages just feel pointless to the storyline. I’m finding myself skim reading most pages and I still know what’s going on.

Don’t get me wrong, Baltisse is an icon. I like reading about Ruby, Salem, Esra, and Ryon and Dawsyn of course but I’m just not getting the connection with the characters that I strive for when reading.

I really don’t like giving bad or negative reviews to books. And the thing is, the story is unique. It’s concept is one I enjoy, however as I’ve previously explained, it just doesn’t seem to be sitting with me. I’m going to try and get through the rest of the book and hope it gets better.

Going into the second half of the book, I’ve finally found some connection with Dawsyn and her motives. More specifically, I’ve found familiarity in how she sees herself and the mental worries she faces. I’m not sure this is necessary in my review for this book. But as I’ve said, character connection is always a big thing for me and this has now raised my hopes a little for my overall opinion of the book.

I absolutely loved Ledge and was super excited to get this ARC of the second in the Glacian Trilogy! I wish I had re-read Ledge before diving into this one though. I felt like there was so much that I had to reacquaint myself with the characters and what was going on. It picks up right where the first book leaves off. However, I really love these characters and I'm excited to see how their journey ends.

"Chasm," the second installment in the Glacian Trilogy, continues to weave an exceptional narrative within a distinctive world fraught with life-and-death stakes. Reviewing a book in the middle of a trilogy poses its challenges, as it teems with details bridging the first and laying the foundation for the grand finale in book three. Without delving into spoilers, rest assured that the unresolved cliffhangers from the initial book find resolution, and the impending catastrophe hurtling toward the trilogy's conclusion is expertly foreshadowed. The anticipation for the final installment is palpable, as the intricate storytelling and well-crafted narrative make the year-long wait undoubtedly worthwhile.

Chasm is a captivating and thrilling sequel to the best-selling Ledge, the second book in the Glacian Trilogy by Stacey McEwan. The book follows the heroine Dawsyn, a young woman who has escaped from the oppressive Glacian kingdom and discovered her hidden powers. Dawsyn faces new challenges and dangers as she tries to rescue her people from the Ledge. Along the way, she encounters betrayal, loss, love, and friendship and a new enemy that threatens to destroy everything she holds dear. As Dawsyn tries to find a way to rescue her people, we get a view of the world beyond the ledge and the reasons they were put there.

McEwan’s writing is engaging and immersive, creating a vivid, unique world with rich details and complex characters. The plot is fast-paced and full of twists and turns, keeping the reader on the edge. The romance between Dawsyn and Ryon is heart-wrenching and realistic as they struggle to overcome their differences and stay together. The book also explores themes such as freedom, loyalty, courage, and destiny as Dawsyn learns to embrace her role as the chosen one and the rebellion's leader.

❄️Chasm (The Glacian Trilogy #2) by @stacebookspace ❄️

Chasm was one of my most anticipated reads this year! I had such a good time diving back into this world. This continues to be a wonderfully character-driven story, as Dawsyn and the other characters are the life force of this book and keep the pace moving. I felt like we learned a lot more about the surroundings in this book and there was a bit more world-building in this one. There’s some surprises in store for us during Chasm and McEwan leaves us on a cliffhanger at the end. I can see that we are headed towards an amazing conclusion and Chasm builds upon the groundwork laid in Ledge. McEwan continues to show her skill as an author and I can only imagine where she will take us from here. Her writing style manages to be intelligent, hilarious, suspenseful, and thought-provoking all at once. Thanks so much to Angry Robot for having me on this tour!

YES! I was so happy to dive back into the Glacian universe! Ryon is still the epitome of perfection, Dawsyn is our lovely flawed anti-hero, and everyone else is a delightful and loveable mess. We get new characters in this sequel, learn A LOT more about the world as a whole, and see so much of the history of our leads. I will say the action in this installment is toned way down from Ledge - it's a lot of waiting around and talking - but McEwan still manages to keep the reader engaged with excellent storytelling and no clunky exposition. Everything felt organic and natural. I'm already so excited for the final installment!

**Thank you NetGalley and Angry Robot for the eARC**

Chasm," the eagerly anticipated sequel to "Ledge," picks up right where its predecessor left off, resolving the cliffhangers from the previous book.
While the opening was satisfying in this regard, my overall experience with the story left me with mixed feelings.

The middle section of "Chasm" seemed to suffer from what call "middle book syndrome." It lost the energetic and action-packed quality that had originally drawn me into the first book.
In comparison to the fast-paced "Ledge," the pacing became noticeably slower, and the narrative meandered for a considerable portion.

I should mention that I thoroughly enjoy the writing style of the author, which is consistently well-crafted. It's just that the storyline, particularly in "Chasm," fell a little flat this time.

Dawsyn's acquired magic from the pool, a central element in "Chasm," left me initially underwhelmed. It was only when the story revealed the dire threat it posed to Dawsyn that my interest began to stir. This twist added depth to the plot, but it felt somewhat lacking at the outset.

This leads into another portion of the story that left me ambivalent was the inclusion of her being a natural born mage as well as her acquired magic from the pool.

It appeared to primarily serve as a tool to further Dawsyn's "not-like-the-other-girls" character arc, This element didn't seem to contribute significantly to the overall plot and appeared to have been added mainly for character development.

Dawsyn's unchanging and seemingly long-winded anger towards Ryon, a recurring theme throughout the book, began to feel unnecessary and tiresome.

However, as I progressed through "Chasm," the story started to regain its momentum, promising an exciting lead-in to Book 3. The latter part of the book rekindled my anticipation and curiosity.

In summary, while "Chasm" had its moments and adeptly resolved earlier cliffhangers, it grappled with a slower middle section, introduced elements that felt underdeveloped or unnecessary, and included a lengthy conflict between Dawsyn and Ryon. It did regain its appeal toward the end, and I am hopeful for the continuation of the trilogy.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Angry Robot and Stacey McEwan for an advanced e-copy to review.

I loved this book, unexpectedly so, and cannot praise it highly enough for the way it so seamlessly married titillating yet heart-warming romance, all wrapped up into a flawlessly written, impressive little gem. It was a joy to read this book. Now, I can’t wait for the finale.

I found this book to be every bit as captivating as the first installment. It maintains the same level of excitement, engaging banter, and showcases Dawsyn's unwavering strength in the face of adversity. Her resilience remains unshaken, even as she grapples with her complex emotions.
Dawsyn's journey in this book begins at a low point, with a heavy burden of grief, guilt, anger, and a myriad of powerful emotions that threaten to drown her. Adding to her challenges is the newfound power from the Iskra, a pivotal development that becomes both a boon and a hurdle she must learn to master and control.
Dawsyn's prevailing anger towards Ryson is palpable throughout the narrative, bringing back the enemies to lovers vibes, we got from the two of them in book one, which I for one, enjoyed. Her unyielding determination to liberate the people from the Ledge is a driving force in the story. However, the people confined to the Ledge harbor a deep-seated skepticism; not only toward Dawsyn but also toward the allies she brings in her quest to rescue them. It becomes evident that aiding those on the Ledge is far from a straightforward task, adding layers of complexity to the plot.
Moreover, Dawsyn is burdened with the weight of responsibility in her relentless fight to rescue those on the Ledge. Her path is fraught with conflicts, from her relief, yet anger at Ryon, the Queens searching for her, to former allies turned adversaries. Despite her desire to maintain the façade of an aloof, ruthless survivor from the Ledge, we glimpse another facet of Dawsyn's character. We witness a Dawsyn who cares deeply and strives to protect, secretly fearing the loss of those she holds dear, even if she refuses to openly admit it.. It's a transformative journey that allows her to embrace her emotions and exhibit genuine care.
The 'found family' trope is beautifully developed in this book, eliciting genuine empathy and support for this unlikely group of allies. We are once again, reunited with characters who captivated our hearts in the initial installment, endearing themselves to us even further. Esra and Salem, in particular, maintain their status as favorites, infusing the story with humor through their delightful banter.
Undoubtedly, the standout character in this book for me was Baltisse. Baltisse's wit and humor injected a delightful energy into the narrative, quickly making her my favorite character, next to Dawsyn.
Furthermore, I found the world building, as well as the magic system, undeniable strengths that enrich this series.

Prepare to once again, experience a wide spectrum of emotions, from moments of joy and laughter to instances of angst, heartbreak, and even those heart-fluttering, swoon-worthy moments. The bittersweet ending leaves us eagerly anticipating what lies ahead in the series. I for one, can not wait to see how this story ends.
