This book was a joy to read. It's smart, quick, and insightful. I loved the surprises this book held - it's always a joy when characters can surprise me! The writing is tight and evocative. Truly, a fantastic read.

Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read and review this book. While I absolutely love romance books this one was a miss in a few ways. I feel that in the beginning I was hooked and excited to keep reading and find out more but as o read superstitions involving the heirloom seemed to be what kept me conflicted. The Heirloom begins with Shea and John getting engaged. What should be an exciting moment for them has a damper put on it because Shea has a superstition about heirloom engagement rings being bad for a marriage. John knew about her phobia, but still decided to take a chance because he thought it to be the perfect ring. She would choose him over a superstition, right? Shea really does want to marry John, but she decides she needs to find out the history behind the ring in order to rule out any bad karma. This leads her on an extended trip following multiple clues to hopefully put her mind at ease so that she can enter into marriage to John with confidence.

I'll be honest, I had some trouble getting into this book and caring about these characters. I had trouble sympathizing with Shea. By the end of the book, I understood her story a lot better, but it was over 50% before I really cared much about the story at all. I really loved the idea of this quest for the truth, but it moved a little slow for me. The ending was satisfying, and I do know a few people that I think would enjoy this book more than I did. Perhaps I just wasn't in the right mood for this story at this time. I am not opposed to trying another book by this author in the future.

I loved the idea of this story. I was hoping that it would be a fun interesting read so was along for the ride until in my opinion, it went off the rails. Shea has a lot of superstitions and when John proposes with an heirloom ring she can’t accept it until she traces the history of it. She abandons her life, John, her job and goes on an international tour to trace its origin and when a journalist hears her story, he joins her quest. At some point she lost sight of the forest for the trees and though I did finish the book, it just wasn’t for me. It is well written with well developed characters.

The Heirloom has an interesting premise that I enjoyed until about 50-60% in. After that…. I did not enjoy.

This book was a WILD ride. I thought the character development and growth was really great. It covered lots of serious topics without feeling too dense or slow. The adventures were fun and it made me want to plan a trip to Italy. I'm so thankful that everything worked out for John and Shae at the end of the book!

I didn't love the cheating storyline, and I'm not big on superstitions, but the book was still good beyond that.

Overall, this was a cute read and would probably be a great summer pool book!

This book was such a pleasant surprise for me. I enjoyed following Shea on her path to uncover the history of her ring, and in doing so, her own path to self-discovery. Along for the ride are her sister and a handsome journalist who wants to cover her story for his own gain. Full of dreamy destinations, including Italy and Portugal, this book was such a charming breath of fresh air. I enjoyed every minute of the journey.

I like the premise of this, and a romance/mystery is fun. But also sometimes superstitions are a lil bit much, ya know. Like is a heirloom ring really the make or break in a relationship? Guess you’ll find out if you read this book!

I love a great romance mystery novel but this one just didnt hit the mark with me. I really wanted it to make it a winner but I will have to pass on this one and put it in my unfinished pile.

The Heirloom had me hooked with the premise and the promise of solving a riddle (aka the story behind the titular Heirloom). The author took us on an adventure, but honestly, I would rather Shea have stayed home and cuddled up with loving, understanding, wonderful fiancé, instead of gallivanting across the world and questioning their entire future because of her superstitions. However, I was happy with the conclusion of both the book and Shea's future.

Jessie is proposed to with an heirloom ring but she has strong superstitions regarding heirlooms. Overall intrigued by the general premise, a solid story but my interest ebbed and flowed throughout. The backstory of the ring was where I started to skim - and then the story fell flat for me. I did like the development of Jessie's character and her journey of self-discovery. Shea has a lot of superstitions, but her biggest one is that she never wants to be proposed to with an heirloom engagement ring - but that's just what her boyfriend John does. So rather than wear it or give it back (neither option seems palatable), Shea embarks on a journey to discover the story of the couples behind the ring to determine if it has any bad karma. The voyage takes her and her sister (and a handsome journalist, Graham) to Boston, Italy and Portugal. While learning about the ring she also her own personal history, questions her relationship, and gains some closure along the way.


While this one took me a bit to get into (and the main character annoyed me a bit at the beginning - well and maybe a little in the middle too), I ended up enjoying the story once I became engrossed. I thought the concept of the story was interesting and I thought it was smart of the author to intertwine Shea’s family history into the plot because it made for a much more entertaining story than it would have been otherwise. I'm wondering if it was just my mindset that made it hard for me to fully engross myself at the onset because I really did like it once I was invested; but we never know why a book does or doesn't hit you right. I'm glad I stuck with it.

Wow! What a journey this book was. I thought Shea was coo coo bananas, but like the good kind of coo coo bananas. I really got into this story. Would a make life changing decisions based on superstition? Absolutely not. However, I know that it is real for a lot of people. I wish we got more of the epilogue, but I appreciated where they ended up in their journey. I thought the writing flowed very well and kept me wanting to know more with each page.

I thought this was a really unique idea for a plot-- what an interesting premise! It is more women's fiction than romance, which is fine, but the story ended up not quite landing for me. At first I didn't mind the superstition, but it went way too far--- it got ridiculous and a bit irritating, and thus the middle and end of the book dragged for me. I just couldn't relate to caring that much about the ring's origins, at least not in a way that would have me questioning a relationship.

I liked the book, but didn't love it.

Shea Anderson listened to her Italian grandmother on every superstition to make a happy life. So when her amazing fiance gives her to the one thing she asked him not to- an heirloom ring, panic sets in. Until she can find out the history of the women who wore this ring, she doesn't think she can get married. She travels to Italy and Spain and back to New York with the help of her sister and a nosey journalist to discover these women but she also learns about herself in the process.

Shea got on my nerves. Maybe if Rosen had made her fiance a little less perfect, Shea wouldn't have gotten on my nerves, but SHEA, come one now! You had a great guy and you wanted to give that up for because of the ring he bought you?? She was a little too neurotic for me but I loved the traveling and her relationship with her sister.

I really enjoyed this book. It's a great example of how our traumas shape us and how we find ways to protect ourselves. The best part is healing the trauma and accepting love and being able to trust.

First off, I absolutely loved the concept. It's interesting thinking of how many different stories different pieces of jewelry and heirlooms and general can have.

The romance aspect of this wasn't my favorite, but this was mostly okay because Shea's relationship(s) took a backseat to the exploration of the story of the ring. However, due to the focus being so much on the ring and its story, there's a lot of exposition via dialogue at times, which may not be for everyone.

And, I've got to say, I wasn't a fan of John at the beginning- what kind of boyfriend proposes with the exact type of ring they were told explicitly not to get? His justification felt pretty flimsy to me, as this was obviously something important to Shea.

But, I did like where Shea's relationship ultimately ended up.

The Heirloom is a sweet and funny romance, but where it really shone for me was the traveling. I'm a sucker for an interesting story that takes me on a trip around the world and this one fit the bill!

The Heirloom by Jessie Rosen is about Shea who has four rules regarding various aspects of her life. One of those rules (from her beloved Nonna) is to never accept an heirloom ring as an engagement ring. And yep, Shea’s boyfriend proposes with an heirloom ring. As a result, Shea goes on a whirlwind trip to try and discover the heritage of her ring to see if she can put that superstition aside.

Although romance is most definitely not my favorite genre, I was drawn into this book with the idea of Shea traveling to learn about the origins of her ring and the lives of its previous owners. It was a fast read and I think will definitely appeal to both romance and non-romance readers!
