Megan Wagner Lloyd's "Super Pancake and the Mini Muffin Mayhem," gave me nostalgic vibes. In a manner that's reminiscent of Dav Pilkey and Jeff Kinney, Lloyd manages to tell a more creative and feminine superhero tale. And who doesn't love a book about breakfast food?! Adorably bad behaved mini muffins and a croissant sidekick? Sounds like an amazing gig! I'm confident that any further tales of Super Pancake will be just as amazing.

I read this with my 6 and 8-year-olds in two sittings, and they loved it! It’s a graphic novel set up much like Dog Man, except in this book, we get lots of breakfast art and puns. Our favorite was the syrup car the pancake family drove. Both of my kiddos could read this - so it was a win for entertainment and reading practice!

Some things I particularly enjoyed about this book is that the main character is a superhero pancake who is also assumed to be female. The character faces real world issues having trouble completing her schoolwork and staying awake during class due to other activities and responsibilities. I think this is a reality that many kids have today and is very relatable. My only issue with this book is that it is part of a series and since I wasn’t familiar with the storyline from previous books, this one felt like I wasn’t as engaged in the story. Overall this was a fun and enjoyable story for any young reader.
