I thought this was an okay read. I really liked Hunter's characters, Becky is very strong and those she comes into contact with are similarly strong and contribute a lot to the plot. The plot is good and very intense, Hunter covers some hard-hitting subjects throughout and there are times where this is a difficult read. There are lots of twists and turns to this read which also helped to keep my ineterst.
For me, the area where this was not so enjoyable was how realistic it was. I did not think a lot of the events were particularly realistic and at times it bordered on the ridiculous. This was a shame as this could have been a very dark, gripping read.

My Thoughts

I'm not sure how I felt about this book. It was well written. The characters were engaging and fleshed out. The storyline moves at a reasonable pace. I finished it in a day. Yet there is something on the tip of my tongue I just didn't like about it. I was bored with the story. It felt like a "defund the police" puff peice. I rolled my eyes more times than I could count.

I found a lot of the plot unbelievable. She is a cop and yet her claim that her husband is a rapist holds no weight? He rapes multiple women who ALL come forward, yet none are believed because of lack of evidence? Her entire career is over, and she is disgraced because she accused a fellow officer? Their are laws protecting out criers. It is a well woven tale, but it feels far-fetched.

Becky is kick ass. She is strong, determined, and thier for the people in her life. I liked her immensely. She is a little single focused, but that is to be expected. All in all, she was a mighty good MC POV.

As she attempts to get justice for his victims she is met with disbelief from her colleagues and eventually she is the one who loses her job. Determined to not let things rest, Becky embarks on a dangerous journey to find hard evidence and the most difficult part, is to get someone to believe her. Who can she really trust? I raced through this tense book and didn’t believe anyone at all. As the story reached its terrifying climax, some answers were revealed but I was slightly disappointed that the ending wasn’t completely conclusive. I had suspicions about more than one person and would loved to have known if my instincts were correct.

Becky discovers her husband John, who is a police officer, is not the person she thought he was. She reports him but nothing comes from it and he carried on freely. She is adamant that she needs to get justice, however he wants her silenced. Will she manage to get the justice deserved?

I was looking forward to this one and found it was a compelling, tense story that is relative with the times. You can really get an understanding of how Becky is feeling, I found myself very paranoid while reading! I was never sure who to trust or who was corrupt, which added suspense and intrigue. The writing style was easy to follow, although I did find the pacing to be up and down. Overall though, this was an entertaining, enjoyable thriller. Yet again another winner from Alice Hunter, as her other books this one was amazing and gripping from start to finish, one of those rare books you wish you could read again and again for the first time

OMG!! This book is amazing!!!such a good concept, the characters were brought to life perfectly. The flashbacks were well done and don't just add pointless info. It's not too jumpy from now to then that it takes you out of the story. The characters were amazingly well brought to life, I could see these people as they went about their lives and the tension and secrets were plotted out perfectly. This is a must read! I'd give it 10 gold stars if I could

Bad Apple grabs your attention from the first to the last page.

Becky was shocked to find out her detective husband has a huge secret that will justifiably destroy his career, his job and his future.

Becky was the one that turned John into the police but he manages to fool them all and she looks like the bag guy.

Becky is not done yet.

Her life is a shambles and she wants John to pay the price.

John wants her gone.

For good.

Tension mounts with every page .

Alice Hunter throws in red herrings, twists and turns and an ending I did not even come close to predicting.

I highly recommend Bad Apple as an entertaining and thrilling read.

Having read the previous author’s book. I couldn’t wait to read Bad Apple.
Becky was married to John a respectable Police officer. But when she discovers she is a rapist she tries to take him down and report him to the authorities. But with lack of evidence, she fails in the task and instead of him being arrested and him thrown off the force. She loses her own job as a Police detective and finds herself homeless.
John is now living with Nina, and they have a little girl, who Becky didn’t know about him cheating on her.
Becky now suffering from Anxiety but, she is still determined to take John down. She ropes in her ex-work colleagues and John’s victims to collect evidence to support to bring him to justice. But doing so she puts herself and others in danger from John and his helpers.
I really enjoyed this tense thriller from Alice hunter. It kept me guessing and guessing. Even though I sort of guessed the twist at the end. The only thing I was disappointed for me personally. I would have liked more of John’s character and not the people working for him, and we only really got to see what he was really like right at the end. 4 stars from me.

I've previously read and enjoyed Alice Hunters other books. So I was super excited to get the chance to read this.

It was fast-paced, with lots of POVs and timelines. Our main character Becky is on a mission to get justice for her ex Husbands victims.

Whilst I flew through the story and wanted to see how it ended. I sadly didn't connect with the main character. Some of the dialogue was very repetitive.

That said it was still enjoyable. 3.5 stars.

A corrupt police officer doesn't seem to be too surprising going by various events over the last few years. Reading this maybe 10 years ago would seem too far fetched, but sadly due to recent events it is all too realistic.
This was a tense read and overall an enjoyable one, but became a bit repetitive at times, slowing down the story.

I love Alice Hunters books but i think this fell flat.

I felt this to be slow start and not keep you engaged. I felt it was repetitive and just not something that was jaw dropping or wanting you to keep reading and not put it down.

This book was my entertainment on a lazy Sunday at home. Once I picked it up there was no stopping me. A tense, fast read that I thought that ai had figured out.. of course I was wrong 😅

I have read and enjoyed Alice Hunter books before so I knew that it would be a twisty and shocking story. I loved the premise of a wife turning in her policeman husband when she discovers that he is not the man she thought he was. John was a psychopath and would stop at nothing to keep his secret. I loved that Becky wouldn’t give up in order to save other women from her ex husbands torture. She was frustrating at the same time though, seemingly doing things before she really thought it through.

The ending shocked me, as I said, I thought I knew how it was going to end. Very clever.

Boy does this book start with a bang!
Right from the prologue we jump right into the story and straight away I was hooked.
I enjoyed the writing style, which flowed so well chapter to chapter it made me want to keep on reading. I was totally invested throughout.
This book was darker and more intense than I expected it to be going in, but I found that to be a good thing. It really made me like it more.
This does cover some very timely topics (for example how women can't trust police) which definitely reminded me of some recent cases here in the UK, which this book seemed to take some inspiration from. This was the first novel covering this topic I have read and I think it was handled well.
Despite the subject matter I did find this to be an easy read but do check your trigger warnings.
One thing I would have liked to see though were some chapters from John's POV. I feel like we never get to know anything about him or his motives at all. This would have added a bit extra depth to the story for me.
I also felt like this book did become slightly repetitive and there wasn't a lot of plot progression. It felt like we were going round in circles a little following our MC Becky doing the same things without making much progress.
I also felt like the twist near the end was extremely easy to figure out and there were no surprises plot wise. This played out exactly as I thought it would going in.
Despite this I did have a good time reading it and I would recommend it.

I was excited to read this book after loving this author’s book The Serial Killer’s Wife. However, I just could not get into Bad Apple at all and found it be very repetitive and slow.

I appreciate the opportunity to read and review this book, unfortunately it was not for me!

What a story , it had me from the first page. Also believable from what we have heard and read about in true life . The repercussions of finding out your loved one has abused their power of trust in a profession that should have it in bucket loads must be devastating , maybe even more so when it is your profession also.

I enjoyed reading about the determined main lady and seeing her trying to get justice for her husband. I just thought it didn’t have much of a story , it was a bit predictable and didn’t really have any surprises. I nearly gave up half way though but did stick it out . Not sure if I’d recommend this book , just had that something special missing that hooks you into a book .

Bad apple by Alice Hunter is a thrilling story about an ex cops motivation to get her ex husband put away for good.
This was a very interesting story. It was quite slow for me, and it took quite awhile for the story to go somewhere. But the twist wasn’t what I expected! I thought I knew who was behind everything but I was wrong! I’ve really enjoyed Alice Hunter books on the past, and while I did enjoy this one, it just won’t be a favourite like her others.

Becky was happily married to the love of her life, a fellow policeman, until she discovered evidence that he was abusing his power to take advantage of young women. Although she tried to report him, the system let her down and now - newly divorced and jobless - she needs to find another way to make people see the truth and protect his future victims.

This was a wild ride, and in places a difficult read. Alice Hunter is brilliant at tension and twists, although I must admit this wasn't my favourite ending of hers! A brilliant read for any thriller and mystery lovers though.

A compelling ead. I had to know if Becky was successful in exposing her corrupt and monstrous husband John Lawson. A nerve-wracking read as Becky doesn't know who to trust. Will Becky be successful ? I had to read late into the night to find out !

A bit disappointing

I really enjoyed The Serial Killer's Wife, and couldn't believe that was the author's first book. I anticipated good things with this read, but unfortunately, for me, it didn't come close to her first novel.

It started off well, it was intriguing, and posed lots of questions. Becky and John had both been detectives. They'd been married, they seemed happy. What had he done? Had he got away with it? And why is he getting promotion?! She'd had to report her own husband to the police.

The narrative flits back and forth, and from some of the different characters.

A good or OK read-but not fabulous. I just wasn't keen in places, and didn't always connect with the characters. On the strength of her first excellent book, I would read more of her writing.
