I devoured this book while on vacation. Started it on the plane and finished it on my hotel balcony in Savannah.

Ryan is attacked at a lovers lane and his high school girlfriend, Ali, was taken. Ryan is the prime suspect (of course).

Ryan ends up not being convicted but os guilty in the court of public opinion. He ends up having to change his name, move and start his life over.

Fast forward, five years later, and Ryan gets a call that Ali's car had been found. Ryan is determined to clear his name and find out what happened to Ali.

Loved, loved this book! Grab this book on May 28th.

Thanks for NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

This book follows a cold case from five years ago, a crime boss, and a new police officer. Everything unfolds and you figure out how everyone is related and what happened five years ago. I am not going to say too much about the plot because I feel like it would be a lot of spoilers so I would recommend going into this one pretty blind because then you won’t see the twist and turns coming.

I enjoyed this book. I’ll start first with the things that I did like about this book. I love when a book has multiple characters or POV’s that you don’t know how they’re connected, but then it all comes together in the end. I feel like this book did a really good job at having multiple characters and them coming together in the surprising way.

This book was very fast-paced and I read it and just one sitting. I liked all of the characters and everyone was pretty well developed.

I do feel like the twists were a bit obvious for me and a little bit unbelievable. I think part one was better than the other two parts because the part one is full of action and fast pace where the other two not as much. I don’t think this is the best book by Alex Finlay, but I would still recommend it.

I was going to rate this one three stars, but I’m bumping it up an extra star for the fast-paced and readability of it. If a book can have me so interested, I can’t put it down, I do tend to rate it a bit higher and I did like that about this book.

Thanks so much to netgalley and St. Martins Press for the arc of this one in exchange for an honest review!

Wow okay this book was much darker and more intricate than I expected but I really enjoyed it. It’s told from multiple perspectives so it took a little while to figure out who everyone was and to get into the story but once I did I was hooked.

It follows a guy named Ryan who’s girlfriend has been kidnapped and presumed dead for years, a gang lord / mafia leader, a young deputy sheriff trying to solve the missing girlfriends case, and so on. I loved the way the story started to tie together in the second half. I did feel like some of it was predictable but I really enjoyed it overall.

TW: severe bullying, suicide

An excellent fast paced thriller with a well written storyline and numerous realistic characters. Very enjoyable page turning story with plenty of action, suspense, and twists/turns. Several locations with multiple characters, but all eventually tied together nicely. Highly recommend book and seller.

I received an ARC through "NetGalley" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This story begins with Ryan and Alison at Lovers Lane outside thei vehicle. All of a sudden, a rainstorm arrives so they dashed to the car. Upon arriving at the car as Ryan is getting in, he is attacked and knocked. When he comes to, the vehicle with Alison in it is gone. times go by and Ryan is suspected of being involved until one day the individual identified as the MRK killer is captured and believed responsible for the event where Alison disappeared.

Time goes by and Poppy a new deputy sheriff is just starting her job. It seems that a car has been located in the lake and upon further investigation, it is the one that Alison was driving when she disappeared. In addition to the car, there were two bodies in the front seat. Poppy was assigned to follow-up what information came over the tip line. Ryan meanwhile was in Italy on a trip with college students when he becomes aware of the discovery of Alison's car. Ryan receives a criptic asking for a meet and when he gets to the location, he discovered this person is the person responsible for Alison's abduction. Ryan leaves his friends and follows this person. When he located him, he discovered that he had been killed.

A new story is presented that takes place in Philidelphia which impacts the story of Alison's disappearance. We now have Poppy looking into Alison's disappearance, Ryan following up on his hunt for answers and the family in Philly branching out.

To discover how these different stories interface, how successful is Ryan quest and what role Poppy plays in closing the case, then you need to read this book. You won''t be disappointed.

Alex Finlay (author of What Have We Done) is back with a new, twisty thriller!

The Gist - a five-year-old missing person case is reopened when the bodies of two men are found in the car of a missing teen girl at the bottom of a lake. When police find a note from the teen victim saying 'If something happens to me ..' featuring a cipher, new Deputy Sheriff Poppy McGee (great name) investigates.

My Feelings - This slow burn thriller is told using multiple POVs, multiple cities and several subplots. It's an intriguing premise with a lot going on (perhaps a bit too much), making me feel like I was being pulled in every direction.

There's a large cast of characters from various walks of life (teens, lawyers, police, mobsters, FBI ...) so there's a lot of people to keep track of (see tip below). But if readers are patient, the tension increases, and the pieces come together for a suspenseful read that will take readers on a globetrotting hunt for a murderer.

The addition of a cipher was a cool idea, but I was surprised it didn't play a bigger role. With this puzzle and the multiple locales, I had expected a Dan Brown-ish kind of adventure. There is some adventure, but readers will have to suspend disbelief in this over-the-top and twisty thriller that has a lot going on. I'd recommend reading it just a few sittings to keep all the plot points and characters clear in your mind.

If you enjoy popcorn thrillers with short chapters that will keep you intrigued, grab If Something Happens To Me when it hits stores May 28, 2024.

Tip for kindle users: when there's a large number of characters, highlight the names of each character as they're introduced so you can go back through your highlights and read the initial descriptions of them

I enjoyed the storylines intertwining. There were definitely a lot of surprises. I am a huge fan of his books, this one is not my favorite . I did not reason care for all the characters involved.

4.5⭐️

Talk about the perfect vacation read! With short chapters, a fast pace, and multiple POVs, I was fully engaged from the start.

There is truly so much going on in this book that it’s best to go in blind. I was skeptical to how so many seemingly different narratives could fit and am nothing but impressed by how Finlay wove together this story. I really appreciated some unique twists that came up during the story, and can’t wait to hear what you all think about it too!

If you enjoy thrillers I would highly recommend adding to your TBR! A huge thank you to Alex Finlay, Minotaur Books and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I really enjoyed this triple timeline book. I was completely engaged from beginning to end. A definite recommend

This was my first Alex Finlay book, and it won't be my last! There were so many twists and turns I was not expecting in this book and it made for such an enjoyable and fast-paced read. I thought that the constant POV switches would be too much for me, especially when you are first getting into the story, but it was super easy to follow and remember what happened since the chapters were so short.

Was it a little far-fetched sometimes? Sure. However, it did not make my reading experience less enjoyable. Are good thrillers really good thrillers if you're not thinking 'wtf' at least 20% of the time?

I would definitely recommend it to others who enjoy fast-paced, high-stakes mystery/thrillers!

3.5 stars
Coming in hot in chapter 1! This book starts off with a bang, then immediately slows waaaaay down to set the scene. The long game pays off. Solid mystery/thriller!

Redemption for Alex Finlay!

I've read this author's previous 3 books and none left an impression good or bad on me; they were all just fine if not dull. But this one was the definition of a popcorn thriller. Fast paced, easy to read, engaging, shocking in a believable and guessable way, & not too long.

I read this over the course of 4 days and just ate it up. Does it do anything new? No.
Are the twists that shocking? No. In fact, they're laid out really well! Almost seems to be the type of twists where you want to ask friends at what point they saw a certain twist coming.
Did either of those 2 things detract from my enjoyment? NO!

This is an easy recommend for a rainy weekend read. My biggest complaint is the ending which seemed to move too fast and jump perspectives a tad too much for me. Slowing it down and maybe adding 10-15 pages would have improved that rushed feel for me.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press & Minotaur Books for an eARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

What really happened the night that Ali was kidnapped? It's been 5 years and that question still haunts Ryan - he has changed his name and tried to move on with his life, but that night continues to haunt him. Then Ali's car is found in a local lake with two dead men inside it and a coded note "If Something Happens to Me", at the same time across the globe Ryan sees the 8-fingered man that was there the nigh Ali went missing. What follows is a twisty, fast-paced mystery told from multiple POVs. This has all the trademarks of a hit thriller!

The way that Alex Finlay wrote this from multiple perspectives and different timelines turned into the perfect recipe to keep you reading from page 1 to the end! I loved how twisty this plot was and how it all unfolded. While it was not a huge surprise to me how everything played out, the journey was so fun and unique. The way the story lines weaved into each other was brilliant and kept me on the edge of my seat! This may be my favorite Alex Finlay book yet!

Overall, I loved the pacing and how the story unfolded. The writing style from so many POVs and timelines worked particularly well here and that is a compliment to the author's writing. This is the perfect dark grey thriller, with just enough twists to still be believable.

I didn't necessarily connect with the characters, but I did connect with the story. Even though I saw what was coming before it did, I still highly enjoyed it. If you are looking for a book that is going to shock the socks off of you, this is probably not the book for you. Although, if you want a fast-paced thriller that is a highly enjoyable read, then you should definitely check this one out.

I highly enjoyed this book and am thankful that NetGalley and the publisher allowed me to have an ARC. If Something Happens to Me is going to be a thriler that I recommend far and wide because I think that thriller readers of all varieties will love this one.

I’m sure this was a great book but I personally do not care for story lines that involve the mob, chases, etc.

So it really is a case of it’s me, not the book.

I loved his previous book and have high hopes that it will be a better fit.

Triple POV makes it a little tough to find the flow, but once the characters are straight and the timing makes sense, it's easy to follow along the rest of the way. It never feels like an unreliable narrator, and the plot itself it a bit far-fetched. That said, the short chapters, pacing, and delivery of details does make it interesting, so it's a very quick read. While some elements are pretty predictable--and the ending is also relatively easy to guess-- there were enough moments of reveal to keep the story on track.

Overall: 4 stars (It really liked it)

I was so excited about this one as I have loved this author’s last 3 books but this one fell a little short . The overall story is good but a little convoluted

I actually really liked the multiple POVs - they were unique perspectives. The overall twist I saw coming a mile away 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think this is one of those stories that could be adapted to the screen quite well

My rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💫

I really liked the triple POV in this one. the synopsis made me nervous too much would be going on but they flowed well together. The mobster chapters were also very fun—they got a little graphic but I was able to skip.
Once I started, I couldnt put it down. I enjoyed also the short chapters. That made it flow a little easier.
I did figure out the plot before I finished, but I loved it!

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC :) I have super mixed feelings about this book. I loved the fast plot, short chapters, and multiple perspectives. Plot wise it was definitely kind of an unbelievable and out there plot, but if that doesn't bother you then I think it was overall enjoyable. Will definitely want to check out more from this author in the future!

If Something happens to me was a great read. I found this book to be thrilling, mysterious and fast paced. There are a lot of characters to follow but one I got them all straight I was able to read with ease. I give this book a solid 4.5 starts.

Thank you Alex Finlay and Minotaur Books for my #gifted copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I really enjoyed this one! Between the short chapters and multiple viewpoints, this book flew!

I can honestly say that this book kept me guessing for the first half on how everything was intertwined. I fully did not guess the first major twist.

In most thrillers, there is always a character that annoys me with their stupidity, and for me in this one, that was Ryan. But even he didn’t annoy me too much. Maybe because he was written as a teenager so well that I could actually see a teenager making the dumb choices he made.

The cryptic messages added such an interesting element and I almost wish we got more.

Can I say this was a fun thriller? It wasn’t anything that had me really nervous or too stressed, but it was a fun story to read. I might have to look into more thrillers involving mobsters now.

Overall, I enjoyed this one. Was it the most edge-of-your-seat thriller? No. But it was a light and enjoyable thriller to read!
