A beautiful poem with beautiful illustrations. I really enjoyed this new take on a delightfully dark poem.

This is a short poem about two sisters, one of which has to rescue the other. I liked the illustrations. It all felt like an old, darkish fairytale.

A gentle gothic tone to the illustrations allows an edge to the story. It gives the threat and warning of the goblin market tale while including a lovely devotion that comes with the bond of sisterhood between Millie & Mina!

This was a delightful little read! Thank you for the opportunity to read an advanced copy. I originally thought this was a young adult book but really enjoyed the pictures and the story once I realized it was a children's book. I am obsessed with the concept of the goblin market so this was hard to resist!

I do not know much about the original source, so was very interested in reading this children's picture book! This new version centres sisterly love alongside traits of cleverness and courage. Strong-willed Mina sneaks out to visit the dangerous Goblin Market, and it's up to her resourceful sister Millie to rescue her.

The rhyming style of the text is very poetic and would make an excellent read aloud! It's difficult at first glance to tell who is speaking at times, and this might trip up some young readers. The black and white (with pops of red) illustrations compliment the text, and the artistic style mirrors the tone and atmosphere of the story precisely, giving the pages a magical classic fairy tale look. The illustrator gives us some clues to the resolution, but I think this was a bit inconsistent near the beginning of Millie's trip into the market, and this secret element could be stronger to really hook children into the story. Though this style of illustration wont appeal to all children on their own, I think paired with a storytime read aloud this book will find many young fans!

I was drawn instantly to this book and enjoyed the illustrations throughout. The book was written in verse, which I did not expect, but was still a fun read.

What a sweet book! The illustrations are gorgeous and dark without feeling scary. The meaning of the story being about sisterly love and even if you’re not brave, you fight for the ones you love was really heartfelt. I can’t wait to buy this for my sister.

I love love loved this book. This is the kind of spooky (but appropriate) books that were all the rage when I was younger. It has a very Roald Dahl vibe, but skews younger. Definitely recommend for the littles that want the darker, spookier fare.

I loved the cadence of the prose, and the art elicited feelings of old fairy tales while without the tragic endings they usually involve. It gave me a feeling similar to reading Nettle and Bone, though this was geared toward young children. Overall, I enjoyed this and would love to read it with my own kids someday.

Into the Goblin Market is a dark fairytale about a sister that goes to the Goblin Market and another sister who ventures to save her. I absolutely loved spooky books and movies when I was younger, and this was such a delight to read even at age 30. The illustrations were gorgeous, and I love that the story rhymed.

This book is perfect for fans of spooky stories, or even as an introduction to that genre as it is not too scary.

First thing, the illustration is beautiful. Worth reading it just for that. PLUS there's some great little cameo/easter egg bits. Seeing a Moomin in there was very fun. The actual story is cute, very well written, and has a perfectly nice, somewhat obligatory lesson/message. I'm assuming that no child that reads this is going to be familiar with the original poem (thank goodness?), but this is a perfectly nice play on it.

"Into the Goblin Market" is an homage to Christina Rossetti's "Goblin Market", a tale of two sisters lured into the magical night market of the goblins. Told through a rhyming poem as the original is, the story follows Mina and Millie's adventures through the market. Each page is lusciously illustrated, with beautiful borders around the text and imagery reminiscent of Edward Gorey and antique woodcuts. A beautiful book that will delight children and parents alike.

This was a stunning take on the classic Rossetti poem, "The Goblin Market". I absolutely adored the art style and the way it tied into the atmosphere evoked from the text in such a deliberate and attentive manner. This was truly a whimsical and endearing read to be enjoyed by all ages. My one note is that I slightly wish for it to have been longer, whether that be in the form of more illustration to make up for the sparse text or additional elaboration to the source material. Otherwise, this was truly a cozy and lovely read.

Into the Goblin Market is a darkly whimsical fairytale told in rhyming verse. It brings to mind old school Grimm brothers and the artwork, which I thought pleasantly reminiscent of Charles Addams, just makes it come to life. A good read for the kids who like their fairy tales with suspense and a bit of scary but with a happy ending.

The illustrations evoke woodcut block prints, especially the ornate frame, but then the they add elements of movement and depth that go beyond prints. The controlled black and white with the pop of red is arresting. It feels like a fresh, contemporary story, speaking to the timelessness of sibling love.

I’ve been wanting to read “Into the Goblin Market” for a while now every since I read a work inspired by the tale, so a huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

”Into the Goblin Market” was blast to read, and seriously, the artwork is just drop-dead gorgeous. The tale revolves around Millie and Mina, these two sister are thick as thieves. One night, Mina goes into the Goblin Market despite all warnings of how dangerous the Goblin Market is. As any older sister would do, it’s up to Millie to save Mina from her dumb ideas - even if it means sacrificing herself. The story between Millie and Mina means so much to me because it reminds me of my relationship between me and my sister - despite all the dumb things we do, we’re both looking out for each other.

Also, the illustrations in this book - they're out of this world. Each one is like a mini masterpiece, adding to the whole magical vibe of the story. It's like you're stepping into this crazy, beautiful world every time you turn the page. Trust me, you won't be able to tear your eyes away.

I loved this book! This was a fantastic rendition of the original poem and it read and looked so much like a classical fairytale. The illustrations were beautiful and the finer details of the red ribbon and the red shirt of the two sisters really stuck them out of the black and white of the goblin market. The entire book was so clever and intriguing.

I really enjoyed this spooky homage to Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti. The woodcut-style artwork was stunning and I can image coming back to it over and over again just to look at it. The story was definitely spooky and I liked the mystery/puzzle element where Millie had to figure out how to save her sister, Mina.

I'd recommend this for any public library children's section.

I have always loved Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market poem, which is not surprising since I am, in general, a fan of fairy tales. So I was happy to be given an ebook copy of the book by NetGalley to review. And I was not disappointed. The art is fabulous. Illustrator Jensine Eckwall created black and white pictures with a few items highlighted in red. The illustrations are reminiscent of those in old books, published when the cost of color printing made for very limited pallettes. The style is suggestive of an old wood cut but more detailed. Author Vikki VanSickle has done a lovely job of re-spinning the story for young readers. I am sold. I need my own paper and ink copy. I hope you will give this book a try, too.

WE ADORED THIS BOOK. A little spooky but super cute. Perfect for fans of The Nightmare Before Christmas. The illustrations were wicked fun.
