This book is a tasty morsel, if you’re looking to stay up late, reading a well-paced mystery that’s a few steps up from your basic Cozy in both plot and spice.

I found the characters well-developed, the plot interesting, but not overly complicated, the setting intriguing, and the cover, stunning.

Honestly, my only complaint – and it’s a big one – was the lack of chemistry between the two main characters. Between their ridiculous lack of communication and the MMC’s manipulation to Keep The MFC Safe, I wasn’t really invested in them getting together.

As I quite enjoyed several other works by Laura Griffin, I’ll still seek out anything new.

Thanks to NetGalley, Berkley Publishing, and DreamScape Media for this ARC.

The Texas Murder Files has been an easy series for me to feel captivated by and with every addition to this world I feel more immersed in the lives of the characters. Nicole as a main character has definitely been one of my favorites and I really enjoyed getting to learn more about her. She had an assuredness about her that made her character feel badass which was so fun to see on page. And the tension that was between her and Emmet made this already gripping tale all the more intriguing.

The mix of mystery and romance was done very well in my opinion and left me wanting more with every turn of the page. Emmet had a protectiveness that I found to be really hot especially when he knew the right moments to let Nicole handle herself. Overall, he and Nicole had a fun relationship that blended well between the detective work and it made this an enjoyable read.

As a detective in Lost Beach, Texas, Nicole Larson has little time for a personal life. After getting stood up by her date yet again, on Valentine's Day, Nicole is done with relationships needing to focus all her time on the latest case of foul play in the once sleepy beach town. The medical examiner, who also happens to be Nicole’s sort of, unreliable boyfriend, quickly determines the woman found in her car on the beach thought to be a suicide is actually a homicide.

On the case as lead, Detective Emmet Davis has been Nicole’s rival on the force for years as well as her secret crush since High School. Nicole feels she must work twice as hard to prove herself because women often seem not to get the respect they deserve in law enforcement. Nicole’s instincts are keen and when it seems a pattern is emerging in other suspicious deaths, she must convince Emmet and her superiors that more is going on than random violence.

Nicole and Emmet have been doing a complicated dance for years around their mutual attraction that neither will admit because it would seriously affect not only job performance, but be against department policy. With all the new people moving to the area and tourists, mostly from out of state, the Lost Beach Police Department is stretched to the limit. As Nicole gets deeper in to the investigation, she ends up in the crosshairs of some very nasty criminals.

Fans of the series have been patiently waiting for Nicole and Emmet to get their story. They will not be disappointed as well as enjoying seeing the other couples and favorite characters from the previous books in the series. Another of the Breda family, Alex, who is a lawyer, has moved to town so his story may be next up in the series unless this book is the last installment.

Although romantic suspense isn't usually my genre, I love this author's work, and this book did not disappoint. I devoured it in one sitting and didn't want it to end. I adore this series and hope the author continues it.

This novel is a well-crafted police procedural. I enjoyed seeing characters from previous books reappear and collaborate to solve a couple of potentially connected murders. Nicole and Emmett’s story was particularly delightful—both sweet and spicy. They were my favorite part of the previous book, so I was thrilled to see them as the leads in this one.

While this book can be read as a standalone, I believe you'll gain more from the story if you read the previous books in the series.

4.5 ⭐️

The title and cover caught my attention, as well as the blurb. I was very invested in the storyline from start to finish. The amount of research that had to go into the specifics of a crime/murder case is very well done. I enjoyed the book and will recommend it to others who also like this genre.

One thing I love about Griffin’s writing is that she is consistent. She structures her stories well. She never lets the reader down. Her stories are addictive, fresh, and add a bit of romantic tension to the mix.

If you have read other books in the series, you know that she writes strong female characters and brings it when developing the crimes and police procedurals. Griffin is a star and hidden gem of a writer.

This book is part of a series and you can read it as a stand-alone, but I think you would get more out of it if you read a book or two first.

Liar’s Point is full of twists and droplets of hints. The plot is detailed and unravels slowly, but just when you think you know where it’s going, something changes your direction again.

The main characters are embroiled in an undercurrent of care and romantic tension that tends to agitate you. I wanted them to get it going way sooner than what Griffin gave us. And that ending… ugh! Their crime-solving was on point and made for a heck of a story!

Once again, Griffin brings us a great story with diversions and twists, capped with a romantic undercurrent you cannot ignore. I love her talent for delivering unique and fresh stories!!

I listened to the audiobook for this one for about half before I decided I didn’t want to wait anymore and finished it using kindle. The narrator was doing a good job particularly with the chapters from Nicole’s perspective. This is book 5 of the Texas Murder files, but it works as a standalone. Overall I liked this story and found it to be a good mystery. I liked the mystery more than the romance, and not because I didn’t like the coupling, but my response to being frustrated about being treated different for being a woman in my career would not lead to kissing no matter the attraction. I thought the pacing of the relationship was weird in that way, but I liked the characters and felt they would be good together. Nicole is frustrated by her job and love life (or lack there of) as she’s called in for a dead body in what should have been date night. While the scene looks like suicide something feels off to Nicole which is a theme for the book. Her instincts are on point. The second half of the book was quite fast paced and I didn’t want to look away, but overall I think the book ran a little long and could have been edited down a bit.

Liar’s Point by Laura Griffin is the 5th book in her fantastic Texas Murder Files series; which was another exciting mystery thriller in this series. I am a huge fan of Laura Griffin, as she is one of the best at murder, mystery, thrillers, and romance suspense. Detective Nicole Lawson, our heroine, is not too happy these days, as her boyfriend, a medical examiner, is always on the job; and she is always second fiddle to Emmett Davis, her rival on cases. Her chief sends her to Lighthouse Point, where a body was discovered in a car, in their town of Lost Beach, Texas. Nicole interviews the woman who discovered the car, who also knows who the victim is. Emmett is given the lead on this case, with Nicole working with him.

At first, they suspect it is suicide, but the medical examiner finds a few clues, and the case is changed to homicide. Nicole is very smart, independent and has no problem speaking her thoughts. She respects Emmet, and he also respects her, but there is a layer of tension between them, as Nicole feels because she is a woman, she is never the lead. Both Nicole and Emmett know that they each have feelings for each other, but not really allowed on the force; though as the case escalates, Emmett is determined to protect Nicole from possible danger.

The plot changes when another yoga instructor is found dead. Nicole is convinced that the instructor who found the body is a harboring secret, with a different pattern that the police team doesn’t think anything into her theory. When Nicole is hit by a car, that seemed to be aiming at her, Emmett decides to watch over her, as well as help solve the crime together. In a short time, Nicole and Emmet succumb to their feelings, with great chemistry between them. I also loved Nicole, who was doing an excellent job of getting clues, as she learns more during her investigations. I also loved Emmett, who knew he was falling hard for Nicole, and was determined to protect her.
What follows is an exciting, intriguing, suspenseful thriller that kept me on the edge throughout, especially as we raced to the climax. The last half of the book was extremely tense, I could not put the book down.
Liar’s Point was another excellent mystery in this series, which to no surprise, was very well written by Laura Griffin. The last half of the book was very exciting, as Nicole while unable to move around, discovers clues that will lead to the truths revealed by the yoga instructor, and the real murderer.

Laura Griffin once again, gives us a fantastic exciting suspenseful mystery, with a great romantic couple and wonderful secondary characters. If you enjoy murder mysteries, police procedurals, lots of intense action, suspense, with a touch of romance, you should read this book. If you have never read Laura Griffin, it’s time to start now, as she is an amazing writer for romance suspense.

Liars Point by Laura Griffin is a fantastic addition to the series. The ending sets up an intriguing possibility, leaving me wondering if the story is now complete. I eagerly await the potential for more.

I have enjoyed reading this series by this author and this one was no different! The Detective work with a side of romance is great. I loved following the new case with Nicole as a main subject from the force and trying to figure out who did what. Definitely a great book to pick up if you like these types of storyline.
Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this book in return for my honest review.

Texas Murder Files is back!
Thank you, Berkley Pub, for the gifted copy of the next installment of the Texas Murder Files {partner}

Genre: Mystery
Format: 📖
Pub Date: 5.21.2024
Star Rating: ☆☆☆☆.5

Laura Griffin is one of those hidden gems of the book world. I stumbled across her a few years ago when I signed up for a book tour; honestly, I didn’t expect much from the story. I figured it would be entertaining and a good fluff read. But wow, I was surprised. Since then, I have sought out her books and thoroughly enjoyed every single one.

I started Liar’s Point on Saturday evening and finished it by Monday morning—I would’ve finished by Sunday, but my Kindle needed to be charged, and I fell asleep waiting 🫠 Liar’s Point featured so many of the characters I’ve encountered in the series, and it did take me a minute to remind myself who was who and which story they were associated with, but then I was all set.

The story itself was addicting. I love the police procedural element that is added to Griffin’s books - it feels so natural and really adds to the story without it feeling over the top. Then there was the addition of the romance between two of the detectives, and I was sold! There’s nothing about the book that made me roll my eyes or think it was cheesy. It’s just an all-around entertaining read that kept me eagerly turning the pages until the very end.

💨 Quick read
✌🏼 Dual POV
📚 Book five in the series
😍 Mystery + romance
🚨 Police procedural

I highly recommend this series, but you would need to start it from the beginning, as I think you would miss out on a lot of the character-building.

When a jogger finds a body on the beach a whole set of dangerous events unfold in this fifth book in the Texas Murder Files. Detectives Nicole Lawson and Emmet Davis get involved in the case.

The jogger seems strangely reluctant to be a witness and Nicole is sure she is keeping secrets. She's right. Cassandra Miller is on the run and fears that her abusive husband isn't far behind. She's sure that he wants her dead but she's afraid to trust anyone with her secrets.

When Cassandra's boss at the yoga center dies in a suspicious car accident, Cassandra is even more sure that her husband has found her.

Meanwhile, Nicole and Emmet are busy investigating the two deaths after determining that the first was not a suicide and the second was not the result of some health issue. Nicole and Emmet are also fighting an attraction that has been growing since they were teenagers. Ten years of working together hasn't made the attraction any less. But working together in a small police force is part of the problem.

This was an excellent romantic suspense title with just enough action and just enough romance.

Loved this book from beginning to end. Me. Griffin has done it again. I love this series as well. It’s part of the Texas Murder Files.
You can never go wrong with a book from this author, I love her characters, and I loved this book a lot.
When homicide Detective Nicole Lawson and Detective Emmet start asking suspects about the women who was found it doesn’t really amount to much. But soon things start falling into place. Nicole knows The witness Cassandra Miller she question the night they found the deceased is hiding something. No one really wants to believe her. Soon they do.

Highly recommend this book, and the ones before it.

The popular little beach town of Lost Beach Texas is having growing pains and and with the growth comes the increase in crime. But two murders in this small town within a short time just seems to be a bit coincidental to detective Nicole Lawson.
Lost Beach is hometown to both Nicole and the lead detective Emmet Davis, who is Nicole's biggest rivel as well as a long time secret crush, something Nicole refuses to even think about. As the clock ticks on finding the murderer Nicole finds herself unknowingly becoming a target as she unravels a connection to the murders and their one witness....
There are a lot of threads that need to come together in this fast paced suspense thriller but as usual Laura Griffin gathers them together and weaves them into a wonderfully entertaining and "unputdownable" story that will have you up all night reading.

Loved it! A great continuation to the Texas Murder Files Series! I have been waiting for Nicole and Emmet to get their own story told and this one did not disappoint. This series displays a good mix between the personal and professional lives of these characters. This is a police procedural mystery that has you trying to solve the crimes right along with them.

This story focuses on long-time work rivals Nicole and Emmet, both Detectives for the local police department, while they work to solve a series of homicides that appear linked. Meanwhile, Nicole's lackluster love life is frustrating her while she tries to push down her feelings for long time crush Emmet. The same person she is in constant competition with to be lead detective. The two of them must work on a case, while also battling feelings for each other. I love the dynamic between them and it is fun to read. The case they are solving, along with new side characters, is also intriguing and keeps the pace moving fast. We also get to see beloved characters from previous books.

This book is really great and a must read for those who have already been reading this series but can also be read as a standalone in my opinion. You can still understand everything going on. There are also new characters that I am anticipating future books about....maybe a book featuring certain firemen, or about a certain hot shot lawyer...? Overall, a great read with a mystery and plot that wrapped up in a satisfying manner.

Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for sending me an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

Y'all don't need me to tell you not to sleep on Laura Griffin anymore, right? You've heard me say it enough? Let me try one more time: READ THIS WOMAN'S BOOKS. If you like romantic suspense, if you're a fan of Lisa Jackson or Karen Rose, or even the specific genre of romantic suspense that comes from Nora Roberts, READ THESE. Okay, let me continue lol.

Liar's Point is the next book in the Texas Murder Files, and it's about two homicide detectives in a small town police department trying to figure out who is behind the murder of a woman found on the beach in her car. The story is great, the characters are great, and, unlike so many other stories in this genre that I come across, the procedure of what actually goes on at a crime scene is great.

I don't know who she consults with or if she has personal knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes, but Laura Griffin's research is on point and that makes me happy on a fundamental level. But even if you don't care about that in the way that I do, these books are still amazing because they're spicy and suspenseful and are a solid representation of what the romantic suspense genre should be.

I devoured this book! It’s been awhile since I’ve read such a satisfying suspense like this one was. I also felt like the romance was nicely done- it didn’t overtake every aspect of the storyline!
There were aspects of Nicole’s character that I didn’t like. She was so, so quick to accuse people of how they reacted being because she’s a female. Listen, I know she’s in a male dominated career, and I know that’s what a lot of female detectives have to deal with throughout their work lives. However, I got tired of it. It wouldn’t have bothered me at all seeing it a few times, I just felt like it was too much.

Overall, loved the book, and can’t wait to read more by Griffin,

Another propulsively written Laura Griffin mystery! I devoured this in a few hours. Her writing and plotting is consistently excellent. I appreciate that each of her books and characters feel distinctive and grounded in reality by the judicious way she uses details. I’ve been looking forward to Nicole and Emmet’s story through the last few books in the series and it did not disappoint.

Thank you to Berkley Pub @BerkleyPub and Netgalley @Netgalley for the e-arc. All thoughts are my own.

Detective Nicole is fed up with her job and nonexistent love life. When she finally goes on a date, it gets interrupted. A body has been discovered, and the medical examiner has found some startling clues.

Too bad for Nicole, the investigation is being lead by her fiercest rival, and who she’s harbored feelings for years, Emmet. With Emmet calling the shots, Nicole sets out to search for leads, and finds a witness who knows more than she’s letting on.

When another body turns up, Nicole sees a pattern, and she and Emmet must work closely together to find out who’s targeting her hometown before she becomes a target herself.

I have some complicated thoughts on this one. On one hand, it wasn’t my favorite, but on the other hand, it worked. This is the final installment of the series, and it did do a good job of wrapping things up for the characters, but it can stand along. This book was on the longer side, and it felt long winded to me. I think that it should have been edited down for clarity’s sake. When I got to the second half of the book, the pacing picked up, and I was able to fly through the pages much quicker. I enjoyed the romance aspects, and it reminded me why I like romantic suspense. There is so much tension and drama in the pages and I did enjoy that aspect.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to those looking for a romantic suspense.
